In 2002, Earth Mountain was vacant land that offered itself to us in a way of a calling. It is an unforgettable experience whether camping here or participating in a program. Earth Mtn. is a 40 acre basecamp with 480 surrounding acres of forest. It is a high vibration place with lots to offer. The stars are completely amazing, we are so far off the beaten path that there is no light pollution! We welcome you to share in this wonderful sacred space. Learn more about this land: Earth Mtn. is a working permaculture, off-grid farm at 8000' in the backcountry of the beautiful Sangre De Cristo Mtns. We are located 1 hr. from Trinidad, CO.  We have a private wooded campground area close to a small pond. Camping here will give you a wonderful sacred space to rest, learn and enjoy.  Organic food is available to pick and pay during farming season. A great place for the whole family!

So much more than expected
We camped for two nights with two small children and it was the highlight of our Colorado trip. Slept under beautiful old pine trees. Absolutely no sound at night except the occasional rustling of leaves - what a luxury these days. Greta the sweet Pyrenees dog hiked with us in the morning (and even led the way back when we got a little far our), Lulu the goat greeted us at lunch, and our daughters played with a litter of kittens for hours. The amenities are basic in the best way - outdoor solar shower, community kitchen with wood stove and dish washing, lots of climbing structures and swings for kids. Even a small zip line. Walking through the garden area is lovely. Our hosts were so gracious with their time and made sure we felt welcome. I cannot recommend staying here enough.

1st Time Visitor
It was quite, cute, away from noise population, camping area was shady and the Host had good communication. The camping area and property throughout did not have bright lights so you it was nice and dark. Perfect for a good nights sleep. I advice go locate the shower and water spout during the day with plenty of light versus in the dark. It will take 30 mins from HWY 12 with visible Mile markers at night. The Earth Mtn sign is between Mile Marker 14 & 15 (Host will send directions). Half the way to the farm is paved and the rest is dirt road. Short sedans are fine to drive up there but drive slower so you don't have too much noise from the road under car. The closer you get to the property the less signs You’ll see so make sure you copy those directions because there wont be signal in that area.

Arrived as campers, left as family!
Wow! If you do not book with Earth Mountain Education Farm, you are truly missing out! We origianlly booked for two nights, but extended for an extra night and then wished we could have stayed longer. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted and and treated like part of their family. The camping spots are just perfect and secluded. The amount of fun activities for kids .. we even got to milk a goat. And... we were lucky enough for our daughter to be there for the Mountaineers Camp. Thank you Joni, Willow, and all the others for making our trip an unforgettable one. Our plan is to return back in August, and we cannot wait!

Mountain farm fun
Earth mountain is a beautifully unique camping experience. Upon our evening arrival, the residents of the farm were just sitting down to dinner in their outdoor kitchen. The rustic kitchen is where the potable water is and we were welcome to do our cooking there when they were not using it. There was a new litter of adorable kittens that roamed the kitchen freely (this was one of my daughters favorite things about camping here). Willow and Joni walked us up to where we could park our car and Willow showed us the campsite options. A large dog and goat followed us on the tour. Our campsite was a short walk up the hill from the kitchen and the paths through each site were lit with solar lanterns. There was a port a potty near the farthest site. Each spot had its own lush nature and the ground was pretty flat, however there was an anthill on the one we were recommended so we switched to one closer to the tipi and kitchen. Since it is a working farm and education center, Joni did have a group of kids and parents there on the morning of our departure. We weren't feeling too prepared to have our kiddo join in the morning hike since we hadn't had breakfast yet. None of us were quite ready around 8-9am. We did enjoy the kitchen space and the conversations we had with the open hearted people there. My kiddo was still able to help make tortillas and hang out with the other kids a bit. We were able to use the awesome outdoor shower after packing up all our gear and were refreshed for the next leg of our adventure. We stayed longer than we thought we would because the environment was so welcoming, but not as long as we would have liked. I would recommend staying here multiple nights and to inquire if there are activities going on there during the time of your stay. Their schedules seem pretty go with the flow so having your own flexibility is helpful. This place and people are awesome. I would love to stay again and I hope more people give off grid living a try and maybe even go off grid themselves. It's really a magical space.

No (cell) service? No problem!
Wonderful little farm and folks, tucked away in the mountains. I had a great time getting to know the host a little as well as my own peace and quiet time to reflect and just be. I felt free to join in on activities on the farm, or do my own thing! Very welcoming hosts and campsite.

Wonderful Place Off The Beaten Path
We didn’t get to spend enough time at Joni’s place. We had some trouble with our RV getting in so we were very late and she was kind enough to wait up for us and make sure we had no trouble finding everything. It was just as beautiful as we expected when we woke up in the morning and we delayed a few hours just to enjoy the scenery.

Beautifully remote!
Very remote! Be prepared with everything you need as it'd be an hour or more round trip to pick up the item you forgot. Bring tp; it was available but I don't know how often it's refilled. The kitchen is outdoors under a covered awning and has a woodstove, so if you're not familiar with how to use one, you'll need a refresher or have someone light it for you. If you're not comfortable using a 3-sided toilet (no door), bring a curtain or take a friend to stand guard! 😊 The website says children are welcome, but if you have small children, watch them! It would be very easy for them to get lost as the campsite is completely wooded and there's a pond nearby. It is a beautiful location with lots of places to walk, hike, climb, take pics. If you are addicted to your phone, you'll be in withdrawal... unless you can make it to the top of a mountain where I surprisingly picked up a signal! It was a fun experience and I recommend if you like to camp. If you're not into camping, just be aware that it's a very remote, primitive style of camping. Oh if you're inclined, I suggest bringing a small, portable gas grill. There was a fire ban while we were there so no campfires were allowed. We ate a lot of sandwiches, chips, granola bars, and bagged veggies, nothing hot because we didn't feel like messing with the stove.

Rustic Family Camping Vacation
My husband, adult daughter (24) and her friend and myself had a great visit on the farm. We are rustic tent campers, so the environment was perfect for us with no electricity. We picked out a great spot, very secluded and I did have Verizon service. We used the community kitchen to wash our dishes and the pump for well water. Joni was very pleasant and gave us a tour of the farm. Each day we ventured to different hiking spots in different parks.

Nice people, very remote location, quiet. Everyone was welcoming and it nice to be able to sit in the dining space outside the office and chat with folks. Met some nice campers as well. Joni gave us a great hiking recommendation and explained a lot of the self-sustaining methods that they use on the Farm. Two things to keep in mind....it’s an hour drive on dirt/gravel roads to get there and cell service is not good so plan your arrival ahead of time. Also if you are a person who really wants a great shower facility, this probably isn’t the place for you...there’s hot water in the shower but I couldn’t manage to get it to come out with any kind of water pressure stronger than drips, so it was a chilly experience. I mean, the shower is run on rain water and solar power, so it’s pretty cool, honestly, but just a heads up if you can’t handle cold showers.

Great stay on a mountain farm
We really enjoyed camping at Earth Mountain Education Farm. We had a private camp site, but with an easy walk to the base camp where our kids had an opportunity to feed chickens and and a horse, gather eggs, and learn a little about permaculture. The next day, we bought some of the eggs to cook at the campsite There's lots of hiking and exploring opportunities in the immediate area. Joni is a great host. I definitely recommend!

Recommend
I had a fantastic stay at Earth Mountain Education Farm and it was great getting to chat with Joni! It was just myself and my kitten (his first camping trip) over 6 nights. Here were some highlights: * Fresh water on-site * Outhouse * Shower - there was an issue with water pressure being low during my stay (not a big deal for me) * Common kitchen - good space if you wanted to prep or cook (I didn't personally use) * Campground area was spacious and you can choose how close or far you wanted to be in nature * Farm - they taught me how to harvest produce and I picked up a few items my last night * Nature - I mostly hiked around the farm with a few half-day excursions so there was definitely plenty to do I would recommend staying here for solo campers, small groups, or for families (saw 2 families during my stay).

Quiet stay with the fun of a farm
Earth Mountain has created a very fun atmosphere that offers the best of both worlds for families - privacy where you want it at your campsite balanced with a kids' play area and the freedom to mingle with farm animals and camp staff in the common areas. We had the camp sites farthest from the common area - a separation just over 1000 feet, so very quiet if you don't mind the walk. A pit toilet is much closer though. I suppose the closer sites might not be quite as private. We relished the total absence of sound from vehicles and airplanes. The farm itself is very pleasant and charming, though like any farm it's important for visitors to keep in mind it's a work in progress.

Absolutely beautiful place! There are camping spots, a farm, a pond, hiking trails and it's near Trinidad Lake. There is well water, an outhouse and an outdoor shower access for camping out. Joni is an amazing host and there is so much to learn from her. Will definitely be visiting again.

Hidden Treasure
Earth Mountain Education Farm was perfectly unexpected. Joni was a lovely host and it was a joy creating a new memory for our family in a fun, private, clean location. We had three girls with us ranging from 2-8 years old and they had a great time. Pond not far, rope swing and great trails.

Exactly what we needed!
FIRST. The view of the stars was unlike anything I’ve ever seen in my entire 28 years. And I’ve been desert camping for years in west Texas. I’ve been to star parties at the McDonald observatory but for some reason the stars were better here. Along with that we had. Amazing weekend on this land. We got there and were greeted promptly, shown the land and it was gorgeous. There were other campers around and the campsites had tons of fun things to explore! I made a tipi! Lots to explore, and as for hiking we really just picked a direction and went in it and it was the best experience to explore! Worth the drive for the peace. And if you do go please respect their land, crops, and animals because this is also a place where people live and grow for the community. 😍
