Camp Nauvoo was originally bought by the LDS church in the 1960's for a girl's camp. The Boy Scouts of America bought the camp back in 2011. The Rose family bought the property in 2016 with the intent to continue the tradition of tent camping as well as creating some opportunities for glamping, family reunions and events. This is a family private owned small campground (19 sites only) located on the outskirts of Placerville. The property features 86.5 secluded Tahoe like acres with beautiful year-round Weber Creek. The camp sites are placed along the creek or the bluff overlooking the creek. We have traditional dirt camping, platforms with canvas tents and glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home. Our hallmark is our family teepee! We are all about tent camping – we do not allow travel trailers, campers or van camping. We’ve been told that we have a “family camp” vibe.We are a great place for families wanting a safe environment for their kids but also several group sites for those that want to hang out together. We are also a great base site for those wilderness enthusiasts with access to all the El Dorado National Forest including Desolation but want a hot shower at the end of the day.Tahoe is less than an hour away.We are dog friendly and love our pets but absolutely enforce leash laws to protect your pet as well as the other campers.Due to the nature of our mixed audience camp we also enforce our quiet period from 10 pm to 7 AM. We have a lodge that is stocked with game tables and every game imaginable along with a ping pong table. The lodge has a Keurig machine and a hot water kettle for those hot drinks (BYO Cups). We have several tables set up for those that want to eat inside as well as multiple picnic tables along the side of the lodge with overhead protection. We’ve been told that our bathrooms are the “cleanest” ever and have changing tables and diaper pails. The showers are nice and cleaned daily. For outdoor activities we have basketball, volley ball and cornhole not to mention the playground with swing sets, seesaw and tractor play.We also have many outdoor games for meadow play including a tug-a-war rope, gunny sacks, baseballs, gloves and a soccer net.We have hiking trails throughout the property. Our highlight is a camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage to display camper talent which is perfect for the evening fire and roasting s’mores (bring the fixings). The common area has BBQs – both propane and charcoal as well as a cooking griddle (we also added a campfire pit in the campfire bowl area for charcoal dutch oven cooking). We are in the wilderness so we have a cool room to store all food at night – yes bears live in the wilderness but avoid Camp.

Private Camping along Creek #6
A lovely experience
The creek was beautiful and soothing. My friends and I enjoyed our stay immensely, we’re planning to come back next summer. The staff we all extremely kind, the gave us a cupcake because it was a birthday trip. There was so much to do and experience at the campsite alone that we were inly able to fit a handful of the activities into our stay.

Tent Camping Creekview #15
My husband and I had a great time just sitting down by the creek and relaxing. We went fishing and had stores by the campfire. Greg was a great host who went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable!

#1Glamping Safari Tent on Creek
You must book here! Greg and the caretakers were so kind and helpful! The tent was clean and the beds were comfy. The creek and the watering hole were perfect for keeping cool and tons of activities for the kiddos. Greg and Laurie were so accommodating to let me use the gazebo to set up my best friends proposal during our stay. Which it turned out perfect! Our group had so much fun and we will be back next year!

Mini-Glamping Tent on Creek #9
Beautiful and well maintained campground. Everything you need is either provided, available for rent, or if all else fails the town is about 10 minutes away. The creek was so great to beat the heat!

Canvas Tent Creekside #4
3 night stay
The camp hosts were incredible, and the amenities were clean and many as compared to a typical camping experience. The bathrooms have no ADA stall and no gender inclusive options except a far away porta potty. No choice but for me to do all the toddler toileting because there was no space for that in the men’s bathroom. Not relaxing in that regard. If you’re fat like me, you’ll find the larger picnic tables more comfortable and seating elsewhere unacceptable. The owner is very accommodating and might be able to help with seating needs ahead of time. The cots in our canvas tent were flimsy and unsupportive. I recommend bringing an air mattress no matter your size. The campgrounds are in a beautiful setting, but the camp overall needs some repairs. Benches are unstable in common spaces, the kids playground is repaired with tape. It looks like it was super cool in its heyday! Now, it’s still naturally beautiful but outdated. The camp has a Native American theme, which is typical of the area, but problematic and cringey nonetheless. While the owner is friendly with people of all ages, he was shouty with kids when they broke rules that kids are bound to break. He also made a joke about my 2 year old getting undressed, and that made me uncomfortable. I prefer more professional interactions, but still found him friendly overall. As far as amenities and overall experiences go, I’d say it was a great trip. I found the overall value to be high and am excited for our return.

Wonderful Get Away
This place is worth the trip! Camp Nauvoo was exactly what we were looking for. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained and the staff is beyond friendly and helpful. My only regret is not staying longer! We will definitely be returning!
