A very remote, tranquil log cabin fishing camp hand-built in the 1960's. Akehurst Lake Wilderness Resort is only accessible by ATV (snowmobile in winter) or by foot (a 9-minute walk from the parking lot). There is no public access to the lake so it is wonderfully private & peaceful. We offer 5 cabins in total with some areas suitable for tents. There is a day-lodge with a kitchen and eating area for guest's use, kayaks, row boats, and a paddle board free for use as well as a wood-fired sauna! The lake is excellent for swimming. It is feet-friendly, shallow, and has no sudden drop-offs. And if you like to hike, fish or BOTH then this is the place for you. There are many nearby lakes that are a short drive/ride and hike away! Akehurst Lake does not have cell service or wifi. Lights are made possible by a gas generator in the evening. There is only cold running water in the day-lodge sink which is seasonal and depends on if the creek is running. Guests should be comfortable being in the woods and aware that if no one else is there, they will need to light the stove and fridge and operate the generator if needed. **Packing List** - Bedding (sheets & blankets or sleeping bag. Pillow covers) - Extra pillows (we provide 2 per cabin. Ask if more are available before arrival) - Towel/face cloth - Dish cloth & Dish towels - Paper towel/napkins - Toilet rolls - Lighter for fires (if applicable). Ours tend to all go missing or stop working - Flashlight - Drinking water - Cooler & ice You are welcome to create your own outdoor kitchen at your cabin, but we do ask you to be mindful of removing items from the day lodge that those using the kitchen might be counting on. ***We cannot stress this enough**: This is very remote. Cabin 4 is a cozy little cabin with one queen bed and 1 long single wide upper bunk suitable for 1 adult or 2 small kids (see photo) It has a wood stove for heat, a small dining table, a deck and a lake view. It is situated slightly away from the central firepit and day lodge so it offers a bit more privacy for guests looking for less interaction. The common areas include the kitchen & dining area at the day lodge, a large BBQ, 1 large common firepit and 2 smaller ones, the dock, swimming beach and 2 stall outhouse. **Packing List** TIP: Pack like you are going camping but you don't need a tent, mattress or dishes/cookware - Toilet rolls - Bedding (sheets & blankets or sleeping bag. Pillow covers) - Extra pillows (we provide 2 per cabin. Ask if more are available before arrival) - Towel/face cloth - Dish cloth & Dish towels - Paper towel/napkins - Lighter for fires (if applicable). It is situated front and centre of the central firepit and day lodge as well as the toilet and wood shed. Absolutely unbelievable backcountry, off-grid experience. I knew within 5 minutes of arriving that we'd be back again. Let it be known, this is a very independent experience. You have to take care of the place, fend for yourself and COME PREPARED.

We had the best time here. Hosts are incredibly lovely and have an array of fun things to do at the site. I’d definitely recommend paddling out on the lake. Plenty of opportunity for fishing and fun view of fish flying through the air at sunset.

The property was lovely and the convenience of the lake was fantastic. When you pack, pack as if you’re backpacking for an easier walk to the cabins. The trail up to the cabins is a nice forest trail that has some vertical, rocks et. And large bulky items can be cumbersome walking up the trail. Another bonus was the kitchen! It has a working fridge and stove which is a huge bonus! Amy was a great host. Would recommend!

I loved this little oasis, it’s remote so you can relax without anything but the beautiful sounds of nature. The amenities were great, a little bit of work for a whole lot of relaxing including a sauna, paddle boards and kayaks as well as porcelain tubs to soak in after a day on the lake. The hosts are extremely gracious and we wouldn’t hesitate to go back again.

A Hidden Gem Worth Sharing
Cabin 2 at Rustic Wilderness Resort
I was honestly hesitant to write this review because I loved this place so much, I wanted to keep it a secret all to myself. But to stay quiet would be a disservice to the world. This spot is pure magic. For the first time in years, I felt like I had the space to truly disconnect from the chaos of everyday life and reconnect with nature — deeply, peacefully, and fully. And yet, somehow, I didn’t have to sacrifice comfort to do it. The warm sauna was a dream after a day of kayaking around the lake, and having a proper stove (that I didn’t have to lug up a mountain!) meant I could enjoy a real meal under the stars. It's that perfect balance between wilderness escape and just enough luxury to make you feel deeply cared for. If you're looking for a place to reset, breathe, and remember what stillness feels like — this is it. Just don’t tell too many people, okay?🤣 Huge thank you to Amy and John for being such thoughtful, welcoming hosts — you’ve truly created something special here. We’ll definitely be back.

Cabin 3 at Rustic Wilderness Resort
It was a great spot!! We rolled in during a July rainstorm that cleared away the next afternoon. And we had the whole lake to ourselves for the the day. It’s was amazing. The trail/road in is relatively easy, but super rocky and bumpy so make sure your cart is burly or it’ll be more trouble than it’s worth. The sauna was amazing. The cabin was cozy. The common kitchen was well stocked. It’s not without its quirks (i.e the propane fridge was pretty old and really difficult to start. I bailed and just made due). Either way, I’d totally go back. Super unique and cool place.

A great weekend getaway

Our stay in Cabin 2 was amazing! The cabin was comfortable and the shared dining lodge had everything we needed for cooking. The property is beautiful, we brought our own canoe and enjoyed exploring the lake. The sauna was a great way to end the day. I would definitely come back!

Rustic Wilderness Resort Akehurst

We enjoyed our stay in cabin #1! We used the sauna and took quick dips in the lake, went kayaking, went to Emery lake and to the lookout. We met campers from France, Vancouver and Mexico and had fun sharing about our travels. The shared cabin was fully equipped and cozy. Amy, the owner is very accommodating and nice, and we loved her big friendly dog. Travel light, because there is a walk down the trail to the cabins, but don't forget, toilet paper, blankets and sleeping bags!

Cabin 5 at Rustic Wilderness Resort
Amy is a fantastic host and Akehurst Lake is a beautiful place! We took advantage of everything they are offering - kayaking, fishing, swimming, hiking, and spending time in the sauna. The cabin was cozy yet comfortable for 4 adults and a dog. It was clean, and easy to tidy up at the end of our stay. We cooked our meals in the shared day lodge, it is fully stocked with kitchen equipment, has a propane stove, a fridge and a large table to eat at. We also enjoyed meeting the other guests around the fire in the evening. We had a blast and would love to return!

The cabins are super cute and the set up works great. The common area is very well equipped, from pots and pans to paddle boards and kayaks. Clean and quiet space, great for a date night or even a group trip. It rained the next morning, so we had the chance to have our coffee in the patio of the common space and it was beautiful. The set up works for any weather! And having access to hot water was a bonus considering the campfire ban.
