A hidden country gem on the river! 2 hrs from downtown Ottawa, you'll find our beloved little off grid style cabin sandwiched between a pine forest and a clean healthy river on 6 acres of beautiful diverse natural land. We have the best (one of the only) swimming spots along the river, like a natural pool, with old time swimming hole vibes, sandy beach and views of the forest hill in the distance and charming railway tie bridge. There are several kayaks available for guest use. The swimming and cabin area face south with all day full sun on clear days for the sunbathers. For the shade lovers, the property has a beautiful shady pine forest with an outdoor shaded screened in kitchen and tent platform for extra guests. You'll find a few hammocks in various areas of the property as well as a renovated skoolie with large deck for extra sleeping quarters and camp style fun. In total there are 3 fire pits on the property so you'll have your pick of your favourite spot and view at different times of the day when fire bans allow. There are deer, rabbits, foxes, porcupines, birds of all kinds and sizes, butterflies, squirrels, and you may even see a lonely beaver quietly swim by after dusk and hear the howling of wolves in the distant hills while you're roasting your marshmallows on the campfire. If you love camping, but need a break from packing all the gear, our cabin will be a welcome change of pace. You'll have a soft queen sized bed, games, puzzles, books, futon & sofabed, and simple kitchen set up, with propane powered camp stove all while still being immersed in nature with lots of privacy. Rae is super kind and her cottage has everything you need for a good time! The river was beautiful and it was a great place to unwind. She was very communicative and understanding. Went above and beyond to stock the camp with toys and a play pen for my 15 month old son. Great time and we will be sure to return!

Clean, and provided everything from water, a place to wash dishes, a toilet setup with toilet paper, a fire pit, loungers, a cooler for your cold stuff, (bring ice and it’s perfect!!) The setup of the doors and windows makes it so the wind moves through the cabin at night making it nice and cool for dozing. Incredibly beautiful view of the rouge river rapids and waterfalls driving up. So so affordable, the reason I booked was because I saw the note about it being a not for profit for an animal rescue - how adorable? I love turtles!

We had such a wonderful time here! Mary made our stay so comfortable and really went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The bunky is very cozy and perfectly fits two people in my opinion. The property is also gorgeous. So much open space, lots of bird songs, and being around all the animals was a real treat. I captured a couple really beautiful and unique field recordings there as well thanks to the diversity of nature sounds. I can’t wait to come back here!!

2 nights at Ferme Lanthorn

The Green Room was the Perfect solo writer's retreat. The room is absolutely beautiful, with dark green walls, gorgeous antique furniture, and charming artwork. Thanks to the electric heating and kettle, I never had to worry about making or maintaining a fire, which left a lot more time and energy to read and write. The lighting was perfect as well, with bright wall sconces to illuminate the room at night, and a bedside lamp for more focused light/reading in bed. Mary and family are very kind and hospitable, and also amazing at respecting boundries!! They took great care of me and the space, even letting me know before they let dogs out in case it would bug me. It felt confident that I would be left in peace as long as I wanted, but also that someone would be around if I needed anything. Even the animals were great. The sheep and goats are very friendly, and good listeners if you find yourself wandering the property at night. The deer are somewhat shyer, but still delightful. The only thing it was missing was running water, but this didn't bother me because I'm used to camping. Frankly, it was much fancier than I had anticipated. The composting toilet was lovely and modern, and came with clear instructions (in a fancy frame to boot). I recommend bringing baby wipes or other gentle dry-bathing material if you're going to do more than two nights.

Weekend Trip to Ferme Lanthorn

I have a wonderful weekend at the Green Bunky! Mary gave me a tour of the farm when I arrived and I got to meet (and even feed!) the deer, goats and sheep. The bunky was cute, cozy and peaceful. I was nice and warm all weekend and it had everything I needed. Mary also gave me some directions for snowshoeing and I had had a great time traipsing around in the woods, checking out the frozen beaver pond and checking out the logging trail. I'm looking forward to coming back next winter!

The Bunky has everything you might need for a short stay and feels very cosy. Elle a su répondre à tous nos besoins avec gentillesse et discrétion, nous permettant de profiter pleinement de notre intimité tout en ayant l’assurance d’un accueil de qualité. Un séjour reposant et ressourçant dans un cadre magnifique – nous reviendrons certainement ! We had a wonderful time this weekend during our three-day stay at the Chemin de la Rivière Rouge, Grenville. The small wooden cabin was well-equipped and cozy, offering the perfect blend of comfort and simplicity close to the nature. Our host, Rae, was especially attentive and helped make our experience even better. She met all our needs with kindness and respect, allowing us to fully enjoy our privacy while providing quality hospitality. A relaxing and rejuvenating stay in a beautiful setting – we will definitely be back!

Parc National du Mont-Tremblant

Hiking, biking, kayaking, and canoeing welcome campers to the peaceful and protected Mont-Tremblant. Sitting approximately 90 km northeast of Lac-Simon, this national park provides 1,510 square kilometres of natural paradise. Réserve faunique de Papineau-Labelle

Wander an hour west of Lac-Simon to the Papineau-Labelle Wildlife Reserve. Flowing with fish and diverse wildlife, campers are immersed in nature at every turn. Providing plenty of on-site accommodations from campsites to cabin rentals, campers can cozy in after long days or pack a picnic before heading off-site.
