Lanthorn is situated just north of Wakefield Quebec surrounded by forest, creeks, waterfalls, and hikes with views of the surrounding area. Our farm grows willow for basketry and living structures. A hidden country gem on the river! 2 hrs from downtown Ottawa, you'll find our beloved little off grid style cabin sandwiched between a pine forest and a clean healthy river on 6 acres of beautiful diverse natural land.
We have the best (one of the only) swimming spots along the river, like a natural pool, with old time swimming hole vibes, sandy beach and views of the forest hill in the distance and charming railway tie bridge. There are several kayaks available for guest use.
The swimming and cabin area face south with all day full sun on clear days for the sunbathers. For the shade lovers, the property has a beautiful shady pine forest with an outdoor shaded screened in kitchen and tent platform for extra guests. You'll find a few hammocks in various areas of the property as well as a renovated skoolie with large deck for extra sleeping quarters and camp style fun. In total there are 3 fire pits on the property so you'll have your pick of your favourite spot and view at different times of the day when fire bans allow.
There are deer, rabbits, foxes, porcupines, birds of all kinds and sizes, butterflies, squirrels, and you may even see a lonely beaver quietly swim by after dusk and hear the howling of wolves in the distant hills while you're roasting your marshmallows on the campfire.
If you love camping, but need a break from packing all the gear, our cabin will be a welcome change of pace. You'll have a soft queen sized bed, games, puzzles, books, futon, sofabed, and simple kitchen set up, with propane powered camp stove all while still being immersed in nature with lots of privacy. If you're new to camp style vacationing, but want to try something similar, you won't have to go without the comfort of a real bed, and you'll have the safety and coziness of the cabin when it rains. In the winter the wood stove keeps the cabin toasty.
Besides our own 6acres, there are many gorgeous trails within a 30min drive from the cabin that make for great day trips and showcase the natural beauty of the area. If you enjoy taking drives in the country, you'll come across many scenic tiny villages, farms, casse-croutes/chip trucks, lakes, hiking trails, rapids and covered bridges. It's a magical place to explore, with our river cabin as the perfect home base.

We had such a fantastic stay at this cosy off‑grid cabin. The space was warm and inviting, with an amazing view that made every sunrise and sunset feel special. At night, the sky was filled with stars that truly felt magical. A sky filled with stars like I have never experienced before. It was the perfect place to unplug and relax. Our host catered to all of our needs, was attentive without ever being intrusive, and made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. We left feeling refreshed and with a strong desire to come back again soon. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in nature.

Weekend Trip to LeTerrain-400acre dark sky Park
We absolutely loved everything about this perfect winter cabin getaway! The cabin was surrounded by a beautiful forest and beaver pond with well maintained winter trails for us to explore by snowshoe! Snowshoeing over the beaver pond was definitely a highlight! The cabin had even more amenities than we expected! Not only a cozy wood stove but also a gas heater as well. Kitchen dishware was also appreciated and there was also a BBQ to use! The view from the bed was also spectacular! Falling asleep under the stars and waking up to blue skies was magical! We were never cold, the wood stove kept us super warm and cozy!

I feel so lucky to have had 2 wonderful nights in Dogstar. The photos really don't do it justice. Millions of trees as far as the eye can see, sparkly plush snow and a cozy woodstove. The only interuption to the quiet? Wolves singing to each other under the stars on my first night! 🥰
Extra bonus: Ranger Steve is an enthusiastically thoughtful host!

Weekend Trip to Meech Creek Falls
Neil has a great place 30 minutes away from Gatineau! U get plenty of privacy on his property. We've enjoyed the sound of the water crrek at night. There is a wood heater inside the tent so the temperature was not too cold in mid october. There is a grocery store 5 min from the camp.... Very convinient. Would recommend!

The glamping tent is spacious and well kept with a comfortable bed and all the extra bedding one might need. It’s nice to have the shaded outdoor sitting area that’s screened in. We did not use the sauna, but the shower is ice cold- just a heads up- no warm water. The tap water is excellent drinking water. The compost toilet situation is about what you’d expect- definitely no frills. While the fridge and laundry did not work at the time we were there, Neil was accommodating by providing daily ice and offering his machine. He was very responsive to all communication and overall we enjoyed our stay.

1 night at Meech Creek Falls
Meech Creek Falls is our new favourite getaway! Neal is a wonderful host, very friendly with a detailed tour to help us feel at home and make best use of the space. Very private and quiet, with amenities that are as creative and charming as they are convenient. We loved how easy it was to spend almost every moment out of doors enjoying the beautiful surroundings. This is a setup where you won't have to worry too much about the weather, as it would be quite adaptable to different conditions. The waterfall is not just beautiful but tons of fun to climb and explore, with a few great spots to wade in for a swim and sunny banks to rest on. Tent was cozy and clean with a comfortable mattress. Sleeping to the noise of the falls cannot be beat. We will be back for sure!

Had such a wonderful glamping trip here with my son and puppy! The site had everything we needed, it’s clear how much care and love has gone into creating and maintaining this beautiful place. The sound of the creek running by all day and night was soo peaceful, and we all slept very well. There’s also lots to do in the area, making it a perfect little getaway when you want to escape the city without going too far. Ten out of ten recommend to anyone looking for a cozy, relaxing, and memorable stay!

Weekend Trip to Wildwood Nature Escape
This place was amazing! My husband and I went here to have a little romantic getaway for our anniversary :) the property is still being built up but you can see there’s a lot of love put into it and they will have a sauna and cold bath soon too! The edge of the water is a little bit challenging to hang out in because it’s steep but they put two floaters anchored in there so it’s perfect for a little dip / relaxation if needed. We stayed in the sunset dome which had sunset right onto it so we got sunlight right to the end peaking through the trees it was beautiful. Had a big deck, bbq, personal fire pit. Really great! Genevieve was also really responsive and helpful! Definitely recommend :)

Weekend Trip to Wildwood Nature Escape
Wildwood retreat was an absolute treat! Easy to get to from Ottawa and a nice 2 hour drive. Her retreat is immaculate. The domes are so well done, clean and organized. Our private barbecue was the cleanest I’ve ever used in an accommodation like this! All the little touches were well thought out. Each had a private privy as well. All the accommodations were nicely spread out where I felt private and not in anyone’s way.

Weekend Trip to Ferme Lanthorn
We had such a wonderful time here! Mary made our stay so comfortable and really went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The bunky is very cozy and perfectly fits two people in my opinion. The property is also gorgeous. So much open space, lots of bird songs, and being around all the animals was a real treat. I captured a couple really beautiful and unique field recordings there as well thanks to the diversity of nature sounds. I can’t wait to come back here!!

It's perfect if you just want to relax and connect with mother nature and destress away from everyday life. Definitely recommend to everyone. We loved the whole experience from start to finish. Neal was an amazing host who made sure anything we would have needed was already there for us and everything was beautiful. The sauna was the perfect relaxing along with the view and sound of the falls. It was really great along with the outdoor kitchen and even a woodstove for those chilly mornings/ nights was a very nice touch, 20/10 would recommend for anyone who is looking to decompress from the work week and relax all while having a grocery store and gas station within 3 minute drive to make good use of the kitchen outdoors, anyways we had a great time thanks for having us!!!

2 nights at Ferme Lanthorn
The Green Room was the Perfect solo writer's retreat. The room is absolutely beautiful, with dark green walls, gorgeous antique furniture, and charming artwork. Thanks to the electric heating and kettle, I never had to worry about making or maintaining a fire, which left a lot more time and energy to read and write. The lighting was perfect as well, with bright wall sconces to illuminate the room at night, and a bedside lamp for more focused light/reading in bed.
Mary and family are very kind and hospitable, and also amazing at respecting boundries!! They took great care of me and the space, even letting me know before they let dogs out in case it would bug me. It felt confident that I would be left in peace as long as I wanted, but also that someone would be around if I needed anything.
Even the animals were great. The sheep and goats are very friendly, and good listeners if you find yourself wandering the property at night. The deer are somewhat shyer, but still delightful.
The only thing it was missing was running water, but this didn't bother me because I'm used to camping. Frankly, it was much fancier than I had anticipated. The composting toilet was lovely and modern, and came with clear instructions (in a fancy frame to boot). I recommend bringing baby wipes or other gentle dry-bathing material if you're going to do more than two nights.
