Instead of sitting in cottage-bound traffic heading out of Toronto, spend your time playing, beaching, and reaching your campsite sooner.

Welcome to Laurenwood Farm! New for 2024: Due to health reasons the farm is fallow this season. It is still a quiet, peaceful escape to the country and you can enjoy all of the amenities but there will be no veggie boxes this season and there are fewer animals to visit. We do have some items available such as honey and syrup. The farm is a 100-acre working livestock and organic mixed produce farm with picturesque views, miles of wooded trails, and a beautiful little fish pond. Fresh organic veggies and farm-fresh eggs are available seasonally. Guests are welcome to wander the trails, check out the pond and gardens, and have a guided tour to experience meeting the animals. Nearby are several conservation areas and access to the Bruce Trail. Walking, biking or horseback riding is very pleasant on the quiet country roads around. There are many local fairs and festivals in the surrounding villages, such as the Beeton Honey Festival and Tottenham Bluegrass Festival. We have three different listings, a cottage, a barn loft, and a tent/RV site. We look forward to hosting you!

Welcome to Cedar Creek Forest Camping! Voted second best campsite in Canada in 2021 and ranked number 2 in Ontario in 2022. I have 97 acres of very private camping. The forest is a bird watcher’s and nature lover’s paradise. I have developed miles of flat groomed trails and a 3-acre pond (plus several bush ponds). The sites are spread around the pond and are close but not right beside it. There is an abundant amount of wildlife to explore: birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects and mammals call this home. There is a small swimming hole on the island but otherwise the pond is full of aquatic life. The sites and trails are maintained all year long and the forest is quiet and beautiful. I have planted over 3000 trees with the help of the Severn Sound Environmental Association. The forest is registered as a managed woodlot with the province and habitat preservation/restoration is the priority goal. Please DO NOT bring firewood for your visit. I have large bags of cured firewood that was sustainable harvested from the forest available. Invasive insects and disease can be transferred from imported wood. Guests are welcome to quietly explore the forest trails but are asked to stay on the trail. Many birds and animals nest in the forest. My campsite is family-friendly (and pet-friendly), and 420 friendly too. Guests can easily drive up to and park at all campsites. My camp site is tolerant and respectful of all humans, animals and things. The Yurtle structures were built from Hemlock trees that were cut from this forest and processed into boards, then engineered into unique camping huts. Large windows capture the glory of the surrounding forest and sun sets, while wood stoves warm campers on those cold days/nights. Guests are asked to remove excessive garbage and recycling when possible. Thanks for viewing and visiting, cheers and peace, Dave

We have a beautiful, densely treed, and well-groomed 1-acre piece of property in desirable cottage country that's craving your company! The mature trees, corner lot and private road offer seclusion, tranquility and peaceful atmosphere. The terrain is steep and hilly; however there are flatter areas to pitch a tent or level a trailer. The site boasts serenity as it remains untouched to significant changes to honor its original beauty and encourage its sustainability. It is within walking distance to the world-famous, Panam Summer Games host " The Minden White Water Preserve/Rapids", which is used for kayaking and hiking. Walking distance to a public beach on the desirable Horseshoe Lake, part of a 3 chain lake, where you can fish, swim and relax in clean, sparkling waters. Our oasis welcomes you! Choose from two options. Beneath The Stars Tenting Escape - tent or RV(up to 25 feet) site with an outhouse Rustic Cozy Cabin - ideal for a family or group. Currently can sleep 5 adults comfortably, or 6 with small children. We are in a very desirable location; only 10 minute drive to the village of Minden, and surrounded by natural beauty and activities for nature lovers!

Enjoy being in the Trail Capital of Canada with biking trails nearby and hiking trails at the end of our driveway. FYI: The first Urban National Park in Canada was announced in 2024, the entrance is ~1 km north east of our driveway. Whether you live one or five+ hours from us, our comfortable ten acres will allow you to relax, de-stress, and reconnect with nature. If you're new to camping and forget something, we are only a two km walk to town. A small walking trail meanders through our property and we are avid birders, having once owned a wild bird nature shop We welcome any self contained travel trailer or RV's.   Enjoy use of horseshoe pits, open space for games (e.g. soccer, bocce, frisbee, badminton, etc.) and feel free to ask, we may have those 'toys' to loan you during your visit. Note 1: Items in posted photos (e.g. chairs, table, canopy) are for presentation only, however; in the event you need use of such - please inquire and we'll do our best to accommodate during your stay. Note 2: Camp fires; we do have a portable campsite firebox, if municipal region fire ban is NOT in effect during your visit, we would happy to let you use during your stay. Bonus: we'll supply the wood and everything you need to get that fire going at no additional charge. We welcome inquiries and look forward to hosting you.

The best private sites RV camping near Orillia guide

Where to go

Mara Provincial Park

Just 10 minutes’ drive outside Orillia, Mara Point features a beautiful, spacious beach that’s uncrowded during the week. More than 100 campsites offer both RV and tent camping, and all RV sites are set on one side of the campground away from tent campers. The designated beach swimming area is open from mid-June through Labour Day (the first Monday in September).

Highway 11

Campers traveling north from Barrie along Highway 11 will find welcoming family campgrounds right off the highway, some with swimming pools, hot tubs, or playgrounds. Most campgrounds have both RV and tent camping sites, plus outdoor facilities.

Black River

East of Lake Couchiching on Simcoe County Road 169, Black River Wilderness Park is off the beaten path and away from the bustle of Lake Simcoe. There are lots of choices for campers here, ranging from a no-frills tent site to an RV site, a rustic cabin, a tipi, or a yurt.

When to go

Most campgrounds are open from May through October, and bookings outside that range may be hard to come by. Many private campgrounds rent campsites by the season to RV owners—commuter campers who live in Toronto and generally drive up on weekends. It might be hard to book short-term summer camping for this reason. But tent campers should be able to find midweek availability most of the time, while weekends will need to be booked in advance.

Know before you go

  • Several parks and playgrounds around Orillia offer a variety of places for kids to play, and there’s a large, sandy beach on the shores of Lake Couchiching.
  • You can drive across “the Narrows,” which connects Lake Simcoe to Lake Couchiching, which makes the eastern shores of both lakes easily accessible.
  • Continue north on Highway 11 past Orillia for another 30 minutes and you’ll arrive at Lake Muskoka and Ontario’s premiere cottage region.
  • Orillia is in Ontario’s snow belt and there are ski resorts nearby, the closest being Mt. St. Louis Moonstone. Unfortunately, most campgrounds are closed in winter.
