Lisa's property was amazing! Lots of room, beautiful view of everything. Saw deer every day! Loved the outhouse, we are used to privies at Algonquin but the outhouse was way better - especially with the rain we had. She was great with communication and even checked to make sure we were ok after a big gusty windy rainy period of time. We will definitely be back! Thanks so much Lisa.

This was one of our favourite Hipcamps. The lake was busier than we are used to but it was a long weekend so totally expected. We appreciated the private feel of the campsite being nestled in our little corner and we customized the site with tarp shelters and a hammock to lay about in the afternoons. The night sky was gorgeous with the moon and the sound of waves to keep us company. One should keep in mind that there are elevation changes at the site that could prove challenging for some. I was able to portage our canoe down to the water and back up to our vehicle but the pitch through the trees and down to the beach could prove tricky. Overall, we liked the secluded, civilized-rustic feel of the space: not Crown Land but sounds of the forest gave it a wild feel.

Lisa was super friendly, communicative, responsive and welcoming before and during our stay! The site and surrounding fields, forest and lake were spectacular and we had the entire grounds to ourselves. Couldn’t have made a better first impression and the site was beyond our expectations. Will highly recommend to others in the future.

We had a really good time camping here. There's another site but it's not close enough that you can hear or see them. We enjoyed being able to take our kayaks out into the lake although we didn't catch a single fish or even see life in the lake.

The views are spectacular any time of day!!! Lisa is a friendly, flexible host who took the time to take the children to visit the cows and their guard donkey.
You can enjoy the gorgeous water especially if you throw in a kayak to skirt over the weeds and algae, that are bursting with freshwater mussels, btw!
We did this and enjoyed a successful evening of fishing, swimming and paddling!
The set up is perfect! Even the outhouse comes with a view and is interesting condition!

We absolutely loved it! The site is on a slight downhill, so a bit of shifting around was needed, but it’s such a beautiful camping spot—private, peaceful, and surrounded by nature.

Loved camping at Coutts Farm. Watching the deer and turkey wander the fields. Feels super secluded only 2 camp sites. The one next to me was hidden by a hill feels like no one is around. Farmland in front lake close behind. My dog loved the freedom of the country and swimming in the lake. Very peaceful. Highly recommend.

We were on site #1 for a week. We were joined by 2 more couples with a large fifth wheel & a tent trailer. We were in a 24ft trailer and we had more than enough space for us all. We had more than enough sun for our solar panels to generate electricity for our units. This was a perfect spot to hang out, use the water/beach front. Water is warm but weedy, (the whole lake is) but once you paddled out it was good for swimming.We met Lisa when we arrived and got the lay of the land.
You are definitely in the middle of nowhere, which is what we were all looking for. We are already thinking about next year’s visit.

We arrived late, which was no problem with Lisa. We had no problem following the directions and found our campsite to be absolutely awesome. A great view of the fields and right along the edge of the woods. We did make the short walk to the water and enjoyed the sunset.
The outhouse was among the best I’ve seen! We had a very peaceful stay. What a great experience for our first Hipcamp. Thank you!

I loved the country feel at the front of the site and then the beach feel at the back. Lisa was an amazing host! I would recommend that you bring your own wood as it is very hard to find in that area (which surprised us as it is such a heavily wooded area). You can buy some for $12.99+tax at the shell up the road, this was literally the only downfall of our trip and it had nothing to do with the camp or the host. Other then that the roads are amazing to travel on heading up that way and all around! The beach didnt seem very full of clams until you got out farther a bit. Its a bit of a hill to get to the beach but the water i would say is child friendly and nice and shallow for your littles. Would be perfect for paddle boards or kayaks. My dog had a blast running around the water! Also i was surprised the bugs werent as bad as i thought they would be. The site (site#1) is definitely on a hill but it wasnt that bad in our tent. All in all we had a great time!

Where to go
Algonquin Provincial Park
Bigger than the entire province of Prince Edward Island, this sprawling 7,500-acre park offers a range of natural attractions. If staying along Highway 60, which runs east-west through the southern end of Algonquin, you’ll find museums, drive-in campgrounds, and 14 interpretive trails. But the truly outdoorsy can venture into the vast backcountry, filled with thousands of lakes perfect for a weeklong trip portaging from one to the next.
Georgian Bay Islands National Park
Part of the world’s largest freshwater archipelago, Georgian Bay can feel a little like a voyage on the sea. White-sand beaches are lapped by aquamarine waters, and a boat trip will take you past as many as 63 islands. Hike through tall pines and the Canadian Shield to vistas stretching all the way to the horizon, then bed down for the night at a campsite or cabin.
Mikisew Provincial Park
Small but lovely, this park on Eagle Lake is an excellent place to paddle—rent a canoe, kayak or paddleboard, and explore the islands. After a dip at one of three sandy beaches, dry off with a round on the 18-hole disc golf course.
Massasauga Provincial Park
Often known as just "the Massasauga," this park offers opportunities to get away from it all. Boat around hundreds of windswept islands, anchor in a quiet cove, and camp and swim right from shore. When you’re ready for some action, hike one of three trails, the most challenging of which runs more than five kilometres between two historic places: Calhoun Lodge and the Baker pioneer homestead.
When to go
Summer definitely brings the best weather, with hot, humid days that warm the waters to a relatively comfortable temperature for swimming. But July and August are also very busy, with masses of people driving north from the Greater Toronto Area. April is rainy, but May and June can be quite pleasant, if a bit buggy. Evenings cool through September and October, when the autumn leaves pop with countless shades of gold, orange and red.
Know before you go
- Highway 11, which connects Toronto with Muskoka, gets extremely busy in summer, especially on weekends—plan your drive up accordingly.
- If you’re looking to buy camping gear, Huntsville, Gravenhurst, and Bracebridge are your best bets, but if you’re coming from the south, you’ll probably find better prices in Toronto or Barrie.
- When visiting in spring, pack bug spray, as mosquitoes and blackflies can be irritating, especially around twilight.
- Fishing requires a license, easily purchased at local hardware stores and retailers.
