We bought this property in 2008 as raw land with an old off-grid 1950's cabin on it. While the log structure was sound, the cabin needed some major renovations to be liveable. We undertook renovations, lived in it for 6 months and then moved into a yurt on a more accessible section of our property. We now run the cabin as a short term rental, have another small rental next to our house and we are using the yurt for gatherings, retreats and yoga classes! We had a great time! Phil was a great host and we’ll definitely be coming back again! Loved the old boat heater in the house, did well at keeping us warm! Definitely recommend to anybody looking for a place to stay out in the kootenays!

Weekend Trip to Woodsy, Artsy Nature Retreat

We had such a lovely time! To be honest, we were positively surprised by how nice the cabin was! We had everything we needed and more! The bed was comfy, the kitchen well equipped, everything was very clean and tidy. We enjoyed our dinner on the deck and imagined what the view would be like, if it hadn't been so smoky :D Maria is a great host! Her communication before and during our stay was fantastic and when we met her before we checked out, she gave us a tour of the property and showed us the other cabins, which are all super nice! We would love to come back!

Phil's tiny house is a super cute spot and we really enjoyed our time there. He is a super friendly, easy-going host and welcomed us in person when we arrived. He gave us a tour of the property and showed us everything we needed to know about the cabin, like how the solar power systems works and how to turn on the lights. I really enjoyed chatting with Phil and hearing about how he developed his land. The tiny house is rustic but we had everything we needed. It's set in a beautiful forest and at sunset, the sun shines through the trees which had a very magical vibe ✨ It is suuuper quiet there, both at Phil's property and also at Rosebud Lake which we explored the next morning thanks to Phil's kind offer to let us use his canoe which he even drove to the lake for us and picked it up 2 hours later. If you're looking for peace and quiet, this is the right place for you!

We loved camping at this spot, one of the best camp trips we've ever had. Great, friendly hospitality from Dean and Debbie and everything you would need for a great camping experience, including chopped firewood, wifi and drinking water right by the site. Beautiful sunrise and sunsets as well, and a lovely lounge area for cooking/washing dishes/hanging out, we will definitely return again when possible!

Was very easy to get to and was nice and spacious, could definitely fit multiple people. Had a cute little picnic table, an umbrella, and a fire pit along with a bit of firewood. As someone pretty disgusted with outhouses theirs was nice and clean. The dense trees and bushes added some decent privacy but the ground was nice and flat coming from someone who tented. The sound of the highway right beside was a bit noisy at times and the site is a bit close to the house (Johanna’s) but that’s the only cons I can think of Generally very good stay, Johanna was very polite and welcoming and it was a good site.

My girlfriend and I were Phil’s first guests for his tent deck and gazebo and it was amazing. It ended up raining on us and was a little cloudy for the evening but the gazebo was a perfect place to hangout and make supper. The sunrise in the morning was beautiful to watch from above the trees. The view of the mountain range was awesome. Our tent that we brought was 7’x9’ and hung off the side a little, but we were able to tie it down easily. Phil was an amazing host and very accommodating. He showed us to the site and even helped us carry our stuff up to the tent deck. We came prepared with potable water and a camp stove but it was also available. The directions to the site were very clear and he was quick to respond with very clear instructions. We would totally stay again!

The space Todd set up for Bear Flats is fantastic. He was an exceptional host, showing us around the property, pointing out berry bushes we could pick, and he laid out a campfire with wood. (Unfortunately it rained) it’s an excellent secluded and quiet space, but very close to the lake for kayaking. I’ll definitely come back again next summer!

Second time staying here and it’s even better than the first! Todd our host is super sweet and goes out of his way to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. He’s also very knowledgeable about the local area and can recommend sights and places to go. There was a fire pit stocked with wood and adirondack chairs surrounding it. There’s a lake not far where you can kayak and overall the property is beautiful and so quite. Definitely recommend and we’ll be back next year hopefully for a longer stay and will look forward to using the outdoor shower currently under construction!
