A very remote, tranquil log cabin fishing camp hand-built in the 1960's. Akehurst Lake Wilderness Resort is only accessible by ATV (snowmobile in winter) or by foot (a 9-minute walk from the parking lot). There is no public access to the lake so it is wonderfully private & peaceful.
We offer 5 cabins in total with some areas suitable for tents.
There is a day-lodge with a kitchen and eating area for guest's use, kayaks, row boats, and a paddle board free for use as well as a wood-fired sauna!
The lake is excellent for swimming. It is feet-friendly, shallow, and has no sudden drop-offs. And if you like to hike, fish or BOTH then this is the place for you. There are many nearby lakes that are a short drive/ride and hike away!
Akehurst Lake does not have cell service or wifi. Lights are made possible by a gas generator in the evening. There is only cold running water in the day-lodge sink which is seasonal and depends on if the creek is running. Guests should be comfortable being in the woods and aware that if no one else is there, they will need to light the stove and fridge and operate the generator if needed.

Second time here and I hope to keep coming back! Didn't have any issues on the roads with my SUV. the campsite is perfectly maintained and close to the outhouse. There was some firewood there for us. The river area had lots of tall grass but totally worth it for the private beach!! Tons of raspberry bushes and we even found some blueberries! Its the only beach I can take my dogs to as they're fearful of stranger dogs and we love coming here so much!!

Had a great boondocking stay at Shelagh’s Fern Gully campsite: clean, oh so blessedly quiet and private with a lovely walk down to the river and adjacent access to Clearwater/Wells Grey Park. I highly recommend if you camp self-sufficient.

We had the best time here. Hosts are incredibly lovely and have an array of fun things to do at the site. I’d definitely recommend paddling out on the lake. Plenty of opportunity for fishing and fun view of fish flying through the air at sunset.

I loved this little oasis, it’s remote so you can relax without anything but the beautiful sounds of nature. The amenities were great, a little bit of work for a whole lot of relaxing including a sauna, paddle boards and kayaks as well as porcelain tubs to soak in after a day on the lake. The hosts are extremely gracious and we wouldn’t hesitate to go back again.

2 nights at Akehurst Lake Wilderness Resort
I was honestly hesitant to write this review because I loved this place so much, I wanted to keep it a secret all to myself. But to stay quiet would be a disservice to the world. This spot is pure magic.
For the first time in years, I felt like I had the space to truly disconnect from the chaos of everyday life and reconnect with nature — deeply, peacefully, and fully. And yet, somehow, I didn’t have to sacrifice comfort to do it.
The warm sauna was a dream after a day of kayaking around the lake, and having a proper stove (that I didn’t have to lug up a mountain!) meant I could enjoy a real meal under the stars. It's that perfect balance between wilderness escape and just enough luxury to make you feel deeply cared for.
If you're looking for a place to reset, breathe, and remember what stillness feels like — this is it. Just don’t tell too many people, okay?🤣

If you are looking for a rustic hideaway in the woods, this is your spot. The site is a cozy nook off of the shared road, and you will feel like the only people on earth. The little outhouse is an unexpected plus!
There are train tracks, with frequent trains, however there was no whistle, so it didn’t bother us at all.
I wouldn’t recommend the road in, with a small car.

It was a great spot!! We rolled in during a July rainstorm that cleared away the next afternoon. And we had the whole lake to ourselves for the the day. It’s was amazing. The trail/road in is relatively easy, but super rocky and bumpy so make sure your cart is burly or it’ll be more trouble than it’s worth. The sauna was amazing. The cabin was cozy. The common kitchen was well stocked. It’s not without its quirks (i.e the propane fridge was pretty old and really difficult to start. I bailed and just made due). Either way, I’d totally go back. Super unique and cool place.

My husband and I stayed here with our 3 boys and doggo. We loved the spot, it was so private, very close to wells gray for hiking and we felt completely immersed in nature. There was even your very own outhouse that made our stay that much more comfortable. We enjoyed the short hike down to the river and got to watch a bear on the other side catching his dinner. The site is close to the train tracks so you frequently have the noise of trains going by, but we didn’t mind it at all. The ground is slightly sloped, but not terribly…just make sure to pitch your tent so your heads uphill.
We enjoyed our stay overall and would definitely return. Thank you Shelagh for hosting us!

The property was lovely and the convenience of the lake was fantastic. When you pack, pack as if you’re backpacking for an easier walk to the cabins. The trail up to the cabins is a nice forest trail that has some vertical, rocks et. And large bulky items can be cumbersome walking up the trail. Another bonus was the kitchen! It has a working fridge and stove which is a huge bonus! Amy was a great host. Would recommend!

Our stay in Cabin 2 was amazing! The cabin was comfortable and the shared dining lodge had everything we needed for cooking. The property is beautiful, we brought our own canoe and enjoyed exploring the lake. The sauna was a great way to end the day. I would definitely come back!

Fantastic stay I received great directions from the owner and was warned about the road ahead of time. The site itself is private and large - and the new outhouse is a nice feature. Our favorite part was the private beach - we stayed there so long we didn't have time for our itinerary at Wells Gray!
