This is a quiet forested residential area in Sinixt territory. Recommended activities include floating down the river, canoeing the lake, hiking or climbing in Valhalla Park, soaking in Halfway Hot Springs or indulging in Nelson. We are surrounded by beautiful mountains and rivers. This valley has many outdoor activities and events and a very interesting history and culture including Sinixt, Doukhobor, Cannabis and Conscientious Objector. Nelson, Castlegar and Slocan Lake are all a half hour drive away. There are many other special places nearby such as the Goddess Pools and the Emerald Pools.
Supplies and services are available nearby including firewood, toiletries, dog day care, massage, bike and canoe rentals, life jackets, rubber dingys and paddles etc. Let us know if you would like a referral to any of these services. There are many guides available for activities in the area including (water sports, climbing, skiing, hiking, artist tours, events, geology, mining, mushrooms, cannabis, garden tours and native history). You don't need one to get here, but its good to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for some of the logging roads that are worth visiting. Roof and/or bike racks can also come in handy. The Vallican Whole Community Centre also has events nearby.

We bought this property in 2008 as raw land with an old off-grid 1950's cabin on it. While the log structure was sound, the cabin needed some major renovations to be liveable. We undertook renovations, lived in it for 6 months and then moved into a yurt on a more accessible section of our property. We now run the cabin as a short term rental, have another small rental next to our house and we are using the yurt for gatherings, retreats and yoga classes!

THIS CABIN IS ACCESSED BY A 0.7 KM HIKING TRAIL ON PRIVATE PROPERTY.
Enjoy privacy and be close to nature at the base of Keystone Mountain. Far enough to feel like you are away from it all, close enough to experience all the Kootenays have to offer.
Campfires are permitted when there is no fire ban. We have firewood available to purchase - please add this as an extra at the time of booking.

The private deck includes a table, two chairs and a BBQ with side burner.

A cozy cabin with laid back elegance awaits.
The moment you step inside, you'll be surrounded by the warmth of this relaxed lakeside cabin. Some of the features are made from found beach wood and every piece has a story and it's as if the very soul of the lake is intertwined in the cabins design. The cabin has one queen size bed, a comfy sofa, extra large bar fridge, fan, delightful kitchenette and vintage wood stove.
The cabin in incredible but the outdoor 1950’s inspired kitchen will blow your mind. Stocked with the means to make a gourmet meal, you will want to use more than just the BBQ.

Once you’ve had enough swimming for the day, experience the tropical on-demand outdoor shower. All the guests say it feels as if they are showering in Hawaii. The outhouse is sparkling clean and private.

The kitchen, hammock, BBQ and outhouse are completely yours.

There are 4 paddle boards, 1 kayak and a vintage cedar strip canoe available for all guests. There are 2 rentals on the property so be expected to share the water vessels. The spacious beach has enough zones supplied with chairs and parasols for all to privately enjoy. Guests and myself having access from 9am-8pm.

Please do not bring plastic water bottles. The water here is divine.
Firewood is not provided. You can easily pick up bundles enroute at gas stations or at our local Lakeview store located 5 mIn north.

Johanna was a helpful host and was responsive to our needs. The cabin is a peaceful retreat from the busyness of life. The hikes on the property were perfect for our little family and were manageable even for our 4 year old. It’s all a nice escape. Directions were clear and easy to follow. Bring proper luggage that you can haul through the woods as you need to hike to the cabin. Takes about 10 minutes.

Charming, Clean, and Perfect for Our Family!
We had such a great stay! The place was cute, quaint, and super clean — ideal for our family of three with bunks and a cozy cot. The communal kitchen was a huge plus, and we loved ending each day with a hot shower, a fire, and some serious coziness.
Our host was a truly lovely person — warm and welcoming. Wish we had more time to chat! The location was pure magic: tucked in the forest, close to a beautiful river and trails. So much to do in the area — we’ll definitely be back!

Great place in a beautiful area of the Slocan Valley! We stayed in hut 1, which was perfect for my daughter and me, and our dog who loved sleeping under the bunk bed in her ‘den’. We met other people staying in various huts and tents when mingling in the community kitchen - a great component of Tom’s place, available to cook in, store food in the fridge, eat at the table, or just chill out. Tom is generous with providing two bathrooms with showers and two kitchen sinks. I recommend Tom’s place

Weekend Trip to Valhalla Pines Campground
This hut far exceed my expectations! It was very comfortable, spacious and perfect for a night's stay! I'd absolutely come back here for a longer stay the next time I'm in the area.
A couple towels were provided which was warmly welcomed. There was a space heater in the hut (which I did not need). The beds were very comfortable & warm! The community building has a full kitchen available to use & store your food in. The bathroom facility was very clean & easy to access from inside the common area or from outside. The hot shower was a bonus! There is no cell reception, however, there is WIFI in the community building that extended to the hut (for me at least).
The host provided very detailed directions to get there which was very helpful! He was prompt with any questions that I had. :)
I highly recommend this accommodation/the camp grounds in general!

What an amazing stay we had at the For-rest Retreat cabin! The short .7KM walk from the parking area makes it feel like you’re really out in the woods. The cabin was well stocked with everything we needed for cooking and cozying up by the wood stove fireplace at night. There were plenty of board games to keep us entertained but there’s cell signal as well if you don’t want to disconnect completely. There are also quite a few hiking trails on the property which were fun to explore. Our favorites were Sneaky Slabs and Ridge Line (lower). Can’t wait to come back!

First experience with HipCamp and definitely a good one!
The cabin was very well stocked with kitchen stuff, lights, blankets, lots to make our stay comfortable. We had added fire wood and had plenty to keep us warm the whole time. Explored the surrounding trails and could even walk to Salmo via the rail trail.
Johanna’s instructions were super clear and communication easy.
Great spot if you’re looking for an accessible getaway :)
