Park up in the heart of the Ludlow Tuart Forest, the last tall tuart forest left anywhere on Earth, just 15 minutes from Busselton. Your site sits on open, grassy ground within the historic Ludlow Forestry Settlement, a State heritage-listed village of timber cottages and mill buildings where Western Australia's first Forestry School opened in 1921. The paddock slopes gently down towards the Ludlow River. After dark, the forest comes alive. Ludlow protects the largest wild population of the endangered western ringtail possum, alongside brushtail possums and quenda (plus a few rabbits we'd rather weren't here!). Bring a red-light torch and take a slow walk at dusk. By day, wander the Ludlow Walk Trail or visit our Discovery Centre in the restored former District Office, a window into the forest and the old timber town. Or simply use us as a quiet base for exploring the South West. Forest Adventures is a 200 m stroll away, and Sunflowers Animal Farm, Wonnerup House and the Malbup Creek Bird Hide are all about 5 minutes by car. Forrest Beach is 4 km away, and Busselton, Bunbury, Dunsborough and Margaret River are all within 15 to 45 minutes. This is simple, low-key camping for fully self-contained vehicles only. There are no toilets, showers or dump point on site (the closest dump point is in Capel, on Buchanan Road off Capel Drive). What you get instead is space, silence and birdsong. Pack insect repellent; mozzies love the river too. The site is run by the Ludlow Tuart Forest Restoration Group, a volunteer-run charity that has planted more than 100,000 tuart trees since 2018. Every night you stay goes directly back into restoring the forest and the settlement.
