The Wimmera is generally fine and sunny region of Victoria, big horizons and wide open spaces. Conditions are ideal in March/April/May and August/September/October, although camping will be allowed all year round, conditions in November/December/January/February can be extremely hot. During summer months proper preparation is required, plenty of drinking water and appropriate sun ware will be essential. Dogs are allowed on leashes, all dog poop must be entirely collected. Cats allowed only with collar, name tags and bells attached, any cat without will be treated as feral. Train and bus services are available to Dimboola from Adelaide and Melbourne Absolutely wonderful natural beauty, on the banks of the majestic Wimmera River. Great fishing, canoeing, rowing, bird watching and water skiing 1 km up stream. Boat ramp is available at Picnic Bend and at the South end of Lloyd St, the Main Street in Dimboola. First came site is adjacent to Dimboola and others heading upstream for about 2km on the eastern bank of the Wimmera River. The “Dreamtime Billabong” a frog paradise, is a cut off water body, from the Wimmera River, with amazing double canoe tree on the junction with the River. Wildlife that can be seen would be similar to that of the Little Desert National Park. Some very large goanna’s are present and possibly some snakes, most common are the eastern Brown snake. The snakes generally don’t bother people but accidental encounters can occur. There are also bull ants and their bit can be very painful. Campfires are allowed in compliance with all fire regulations. The fire restrictions apply in the Wimmera from approximately 1 st November to middle of March every year. Campfires must be attended at all times during this period, with 3 metres completely clear of all vegetation. TOTAL FIRE BAN days, are common in the the summer and ABSOLUTELY NO FIRES can be lit in the open. The double canoe tree is an aboriginal scare tree, the eastern scare being approximately 350 years old and the western scare just prior to the European settlement. This site has tones of history and a wonderful view of the river, which you will have easy access to take a dip. NB- this site is very important to the wotjobalak people, the site must not be damaged in anyway and no rubbish left behind.

The Windmill

The windmill is an old established windmill, the view on the river is incredible. The ground is a little uneven but is a perfect spot to camp at. It is easy to access from the road and isn’t far from the centre of dimboola

Double Canoe Tree
We had a great weekend at the Double Canoe Tree site. Easy access to the Wimmera River for kayaking. Lots of space. Close to Dimboola, easy to visit, be sure to book a dinner at the Victoria Hotel. Thanks to Ross for his hospitality.

The Dream Time Billabong
Our stay alongside the Billabong was perfect! The large open space for the Jayco Swan and en-suite, with views through the trees for ambience, was lovely. On our first day, Ross met us to ask how we were going, and reminded us that he was around if we needed help. A chance meeting in town, at the wonderfully quirky Victoria Hotel, saw him guide us to the hotels’ famous Australian art collection and tell of other town attractions. Ross left us lots of firewood for blazing fires, and the frog song guiding us to sleep made this a camp worth visiting.

Amazing place with a gorgeous view of the stars at night. Ross was incredibly helpful, stopping past to introduce himself and help us start a fire. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who has the luck to stay here.

Double Canoe Tree
Double canoe tree was a really cool camp-site right by the river. Nice and flat. We had extremely windy and rainy couple of days though. Would love to come back in warmer temps. My dog loved it also and we saw an echidna! Thanks Ross!

Town Side
We loved being riverside and townside, a double bonus to match the double canoe tree nearby. Double woodpile doubled the experience even more. Definitely double stars, times two, plus 1 to Ross. Thankyou for adding your campsites to HipCamp. Great halfway stopover between SA and Vic. Highly recommend it.

The Sandbar, River Side
The sandbar site was a nice flat private campground. It does have access to the river although quite steep. We unfortunately encountered a lot of wind which blew up dust and sand. Maybe camping a bit further back near the trees would have stopped a bit of dust. Ross the host came down to introduce himself which was nice.
