Great spot under the trees and close to lotsa great places to explore around Cape Bridgewater and Mount Richmond. Bird life incredible at this spot.

Great spot in a little cleared grove that have us both privacy and shade. We enjoyed a small fire on the chilly nights. A good location to explore the coast between Portland and Bridgewater. If we lived closer we world definitely go back.

Overall had a nice stay, however the site was a bit overgrown to get to. The actual site didn't have much grass, so beware to those who like to keep their camper semi clean.

Absolutely loved our stay! A beautiful, private spot that felt peaceful and special. Brendon was fantastic- so friendly and communicative, and even came by to kindly chop wood for us to use at night, which was incredibly appreciated. He also took the time to show us the walks around his property, which made the stay even more memorable. We would definitely come back and highly recommend it.

Easy to find the property. Good base to explore the area. Great that Shaddy Gums allows dogs - our dog loved it there. We stayed at Campsite 1 -Under the Gums. We have a flip top style camper and just had to manoeuvre it a bit to get it in the right spot to open the lid without hitting overhanging branches. . If you have a large camper or caravan, definitely book Campsite 2- By the dam which has a big, flat open area to park a larger RV.
Lots of wildlife seen - grey kangaroos, swamp wallabies, emus, rabbits, yellow-tailed black cockatoos, blue wrens, fantails, currawongs, magpies, tree creepers etc. Heard but didn't see koalas.
Campsite 2 track was a little overgrown so we didn't find it immediately but soon did. Half barrel fire pit with grill available plus some chopped firewood which was great as our second night was a bit chilly.
The two campsites are about 100m apart and you can't see each other due to trees screening but can hear each other - all fine for us because the other campsite was just family noise - a young family having fun with their kids.
The owner doesn't live on the property. There is an old derelict farmhouse in view from both campsites but no one seems to live there.
We enjoyed walking along the property boundary fence - there is a mix of open bracken/plantation gums/native bush with plenty of xanthorrhea ('blackboys'). Plus very friendly cattle in the neighbouring field.
A short drive to nearby lakes, the ocean beach and Portland.

We spent two nights at this very quiet and relaxing spot. It truly felt like we were alone in the middle of nowhere — so peaceful. Brendon kindly gave us some wood, and we had a lovely chat with him. I truly recommend this place!

Our second stay at Shady Gums didn't disappoint. Peaceful, quite and bursting with wildlife. Brendon left us some wood for the camp fire as well. A perfect space to connect with nature and explore the area. We'll be back!

Great tent camping spot on lovely land with lots of bird life and close enough to Portland if you had forgotten anything it is a quick drive back. It is important to ensure you do have water and a toilet waste management. Site was very clean and natural.

Nice flat site (Site 2) with plenty of space and a cosy feel tucked into a bit of a valley. The waterhole was obviously suffering from the dry conditions but miraculously not a mozzie to be seen or slapped.
Brendan's directions were clear and easy to follow.

We had a really great stay, very quiet & secluded. We stayed beside the water & were thrilled to find no mozzies, but there are flies.
Finding firewood wasn’t a problem around, the pit supplied is a great size
We saw a koala, wallaby, kangaroos, an echidna & countless parrots & birds!
We stayed with our two children (4&6 years old) who loved exploring the property.
Fascinating things to see all over the block, old/run down cars, house & much more to see
Would absolutely come again if we are ever in the area again.

What a peaceful and relaxing pace to call home for a number of nights! We extended our stay due to the location being central to the beautiful Bridgewater Lakes and bay and greater Portland area. The directions to get in were perfect, just be careful with putting the address into Google Maps as it will take you down the dirt road, but the gate is just before the dirt track and has a sign to show you that you are indeed at 'Shaddy Gums'

Tent camping at Shaddy Gums was very enjoyable. The natural wildlife and birdlife was great. Had koalas right outside our tent. The spot was private and our dog had a lovely time off leash.

This is our second stay at Shaddy Gums and we highly recommend it. It is very peaceful with lots of space to spread out. The resident koalas and birds are entertaining and everything is close by.

Fantastic spot by the waterhole. Nice flat area easy to get van in and out, really tidy and well maintained by Brendon. There was firewood waiting when we arrived and tubs of water to put it out when we went to bed. Probably our favourite Hipcamp spot so far. Highly recommend.

The land itself isn't particularly spectacular, but it's by no means bad either. It's very quiet and secluded. That's unless you take into account the high pitched shrills of the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos (which I absolutely loved), the squeaky Gang-Gang Cockatoos, or the noisy grunting Koalas in the trees!
Seriously, it's not far away from the centre of Portland and is in one of the most beautiful regions in all of Victoria with plenty to see and do. I found the prices to stay here 100% worth it. Next time I'm back in the area, I would totally consider staying here again.

The perfect place to truly switch off, in more ways than one. Our stay amongst the serene conditions at Shaddy Gums, relaxed and renewed us for the rest of our road trip. Cooked our damper and roasted marshmallows over the fire, before turning in under the big starry skies, to the soundtrack of frogs by the waterhole, other local wildlife and the odd grunt from a passing emu!! Would definitely stay again and highly recommend to others. Thanks for having us!

Absolutely loved this place. Close to Portland and Cape Bridgewater but felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. We even had a resident koala we named Toni Collette! Loads of little wrens, kookaburras, a great fire pit and dark starry nights, very easy to find and a friendly host. Brilliant. We’ll be back.
