Buffalo River Retreat is the perfect place to unwind, explore, and reconnect with nature. Set on 50 acres of farmland just 15km from Myrtleford, our property offers over 1km of pristine Buffalo River frontage. Whether you’re a family looking for a safe, fun spot for the kids, a couple seeking a peaceful getaway, a group of friends, or a keen angler chasing your next catch, you’ll feel right at home here. Book a site and the entire space is yours. Each site is private, can fit a large number of campers, and is set apart from the other sites, guaranteeing ample space and privacy. Riverside: The first campsite, with a spacious flat lawn and rustic shade shelter, just 20 metres from a beautiful sandy river beach. Rocky River: The second site is set in a peaceful bush area only 20 metres from the river. This shady, tranquil spot is a favourite for those wanting a natural camping experience. The Pines: Located near the end of the property, around 600 metres beyond Riverside and Rocky River. This flat, shaded and secluded bush site sits roughly 40 metres from the river. With loads of open space and flat ground. Far End: As the name suggests, Far End sits right at the very end of our property and offers the utmost peace and privacy. This flat, shaded campsite is just 10–20 metres from the river and surrounded by trees, making it a favourite among returning guests. Nearby attractions: -Lake Buffalo for watersports and fishing -Bright and Myrtleford for bike trails, cafes and markets -Mount Buffalo and Mt Hotham for hiking or snow trips -The famous King Valley Wine Region Whether stargazing by the fire, fishing at dawn, or exploring the High Country, Buffalo River Retreat offers space, serenity, and a welcoming atmosphere for an unforgettable stay. Notes: Campfires are welcome in designated firepits. FIREWOOD: 1 X $25 bundle = 1 wheelbarrow full. Add as an extra when booking for wood at campsite on arrival. If you need more wood while camping, we will kindly deliver it to your campsite! You are also welcome to bring your own firewood, and to burn sticks found on the ground and piled up in your camp area as firewood (this may fuel a small campfire depending on time of year, length of stay, etc.)

This is a flat, shaded and secluded camp area approx 10 to 20 mtrs from the river. This camp is very quiet and secluded and located at the far end of our property. Plenty of shade and very private. There are 3-6 flush toilets and a small sink and tap available at this site. As with all our camp sites, big groups of campers can fit in this site quite easily. A favorite amongst many visitors, this site has even been used to host a music festival many times. Note: The track to this site can sometimes be quite muddy. Therefore, IF the weather has been very wet we recommend 4WD's only. Check in and check out times are very flexible.

This is a flat, shaded and secluded bush camp area approx 40 mtrs from the river. It is located near the end of our property. Private with short walk down to the river. Shaded areas, and sun for solar. loads of space and flat ground to set up your campsite. The track to this site can sometimes be quite muddy. Therefore, if the weather has been very wet we recommend 4WD's only. Check in and check out times are very flexible.

Such a beautiful camping spot right on Buffalo River, Patrick was super helpful and responsive. Perfect if you have a dog, lots of space to run around and explore. Will definitely be back!

Stunning location and great hosts!! The grounds are beautifully maintained with ample distance between camps for privacy. Buffalo River is perfect for swimming and fishing. Will definitely be coming back!!

We have just found our new favourite place! We had a great weekend at the Far End with our family planning our wedding out here later this year. The spot is perfect. Toilets in wonderful clean condition and campsite perfect. Access to the river is lovely. It’s dog friendly too! Our dogs often dine get to come away with us so we were a little worried but this spot is great to be able to let them free run on our site safely. We can’t wait to get married here later in the year. Thanks guys!

Best Hipcamp we’ve ever stayed at. The site was beautiful, right next to fast flowing river, we enjoyed a dip. River flow is very strong here so wouldn’t recommend for smaller children but for adults and teenagers it’s fantastic. The toilet was immaculate and thoughtful touches like the sink with soap were very welcomed. The Far End site had lots of flat space for bigger groups (we had four camp trailers). It was very private and lots of birds and wombat holes so potential to see them but we didn’t unfortunately. Patrick was helpful but not intrusive. We loved it.

Great location with nicely mown grass and view of river. Clean drop loo and a Largs gazebo type structure to set up lots of stuff underneath. Had minor medical issue and Patrick so helpful . Can not recommend this Hipcamp enough highly

We had a brilliant stay with our group of almost 50 at the Far End Campsite. The site was right beside a beautiful part of the river, toilets were clean, toilet paper and hand soap was a nice added extra. Patrick and Ian were easy to deal with and quick to respond to every question. I'd highly recommend this location.

Great directions, friendly hosts, GORGEOUS location! Stunning river to paddle in, saw our first Black Cockatoos in the wild. A descent leisurely stroll to the end of the property to keep the body functioning. Absolutely loved our stay and definitely want to return

What a great place, everyhjing was just what we expected, Ian introduced himself when we arrived and made us comfortable, from swimming in the Buffalo River to sitting around the camp fire in the evening everthing was perfect, I would highly recommend this location.

Ian's and Patrick's property is tucked away between hills - some covered in native bush, some planted out with pines, and some cleared. We didn't meet Ian, but Patrick greeted us warmly and was very thoughtful and kind, bringing extra dry firewood and kindling after a day and night of rain. Far End is the pick of the campsites. It's large, flat, and private with easy river access. Also furthest away from the cows/flies. Unfortunately there were armies of ants though, swarming after the rain. The river was the highlight. It flows quite fast over rocky rapids at this spot, providing constant background white noise that sounds like steady rain, with occasional deep rumblings. Beautiful to sleep next to. Not so many small birds around, but we did see wood ducks, gang gangs and a single heron. There are signs of resident wombats, but sadly we didn't see or hear them. We camped there for 4 nights. Overall it was very relaxing (apart from the ants!)

Riverside camp area was absolutely perfect for our group getaway with young kids. Lovely area of the river to play for the kids, lots of space for our caravans and perfect for a large group. It was peaceful and relaxing! Thanks to Ian and Patrick for hosting us. We will be back!

Enjoyed my stay! My spot was In The Pines and while it wasn’t directly on the river, Patrick went out of his way to make sure my access point was assessable. The spot was lovely in the tall gums, and was an easy 1min and half walk to the river. I took my chair, book, and coffee down there in the morning.

We loved every minute of our 2 night stay! Great communication with the Hosts and a lovely and private site. Went for several swims which was divine! The birdlife was prolific and the cows were a hoot. Would totally recommend this place and we hope to be back someday.

We really enjoyed our stay at Buffalo River Retreat. The "Far End" is a great campsite, the river was close, and a great spot to cool off and in the rapids or in the deep water just downstream. Patrick and Ian were extremely friendly and hospitable hosts. They even brought us some fresh fruit and tomatoes from their garden. Its a short drive to Myrtleford for supplies, or lake Buffalo for a day out on the water. I highly recommend this spot

My partner and I had a wonderful time at buffalo river the river was the best part so close to the camp site toilets were well kept will happily book with a big group next time. Patrick and Ian were great hosts greeted on entry easy directions to follow

It was wonderful. I had the riverside site which had a great beach entry into the swimming hole. There was a drop toilet nearby, very clean with toilet paper available. Both Ian & Patrick dropped by to say hello and have a chat. So relaxing just to sit and watch the cows come down on the other side of the river for a drink. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone.

What a fantastic and relaxing place! The scenery was amazing, and the riverfront was very accessible and clean. The toilets were nearby and well maintained. It was also very easy to get there using the directions provided.

A very relaxed and quiet 3 day stay beside the Buffalo River looking across the river to what could have been a Hans Heysen painting. We chose the riverside camp as we enjoy swimming in the river. Wonderful watching the cows across the river come to drink in the river each afternoon followed by the black cockatoos. Just beautiful and no other campers to bother you. It’s all yours.
