Buffalo River Retreat is the perfect place to unwind, explore, and reconnect with nature. Set on 50 acres of farmland just 15km from Myrtleford, our property offers over 1km of pristine Buffalo River frontage. Whether you’re a family looking for a safe, fun spot for the kids, a couple seeking a peaceful getaway, a group of friends, or a keen angler chasing your next catch, you’ll feel right at home here. Book a site and the entire space is yours. Each site is private, can fit a large number of campers, and is set apart from the other sites, guaranteeing ample space and privacy. Riverside: The first campsite, with a spacious flat lawn and rustic shade shelter, just 20 metres from a beautiful sandy river beach. Rocky River: The second site is set in a peaceful bush area only 20 metres from the river. This shady, tranquil spot is a favourite for those wanting a natural camping experience. The Pines: Located near the end of the property, around 600 metres beyond Riverside and Rocky River. This flat, shaded and secluded bush site sits roughly 50 metres from the river. With loads of open space and flat ground. Far End: As the name suggests, Far End sits right at the very end of our property and offers the utmost peace and privacy. This flat, shaded campsite is just 10–20 metres from the river and surrounded by trees, making it a favourite among returning guests. Nearby attractions: -Lake Buffalo for watersports and fishing -Bright and Myrtleford for bike trails, cafes and markets -Mount Buffalo and Mt Hotham for hiking or snow trips -The famous King Valley Wine Region Whether stargazing by the fire, fishing at dawn, or exploring the High Country, Buffalo River Retreat offers space, serenity, and a welcoming atmosphere for an unforgettable stay. Notes: Campfires are welcome in designated firepits. FIREWOOD: 1 X $25 bundle = 1 wheelbarrow full. Add as an extra when booking for wood at campsite on arrival. If you need more wood while camping, we will kindly deliver it to your campsite! You are also welcome to bring your own firewood, and to burn sticks found on the ground and piled up in your camp area as firewood (this may fuel a small campfire depending on time of year, length of stay, etc.)

This is a flat, shaded and secluded camp area approx 10 to 20 mtrs from the river. This camp is very quiet and secluded and located at the far end of our property. Plenty of shade and very private. There are 3-6 flush toilets and a small sink and tap available at this site. As with all our camp sites, big groups of campers can fit in this site quite easily. A favorite amongst many visitors, this site has even been used to host a music festival many times. Note: The track to this site can sometimes be quite muddy. Therefore, IF the weather has been very wet we recommend 4WD's only. Check in and check out times are very flexible.

The Pines Bush Camp Area

This is a flat, shaded and secluded bush camp area approx 50 mtrs from the river. It is located near the end of our property. Private with short 3-5 min walk down to the river. Shaded areas, and sun for solar. loads of space and flat ground to set up your campsite. The track to this site can sometimes be quite muddy. Therefore, if the weather has been very wet we recommend 4WD's only. Check in and check out times are very flexible.

We stayed with our friends at the Far End site, a lovely private spot at the end of the track next to Mt Buffalo River which was certainly flowing! Plenty of freshly dug wombat holes around with lots of smells to keep our dog Simba busy. Nice clean toilet which was a bonus. Patrick met us on arrival to give us the run down which was much appreciated. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend 👌

Really beautiful place. Road was too wet for my 2wd to make it to the end camp. So they were happy to move me to the closer 2wd accessible one. And even offered to move the booking for free. I really felt looked after! The weather was very wet so the fire was already going when I got there! So nice.

It Was Worth the Trip to Far End

Far end
Far End was a fantastic grassy campsite with beautiful views, a serene and private atmosphere, and an excellent toilet facility. Unfortunately, our stay coincided with heavy rain, so the river was flowing too fast for fishing, but the site itself drained really well and never became muddy or unpleasant. Communication was great throughout, and it was lovely meeting Ian during our stay. We’d definitely return. In a funny twist, the high fuel prices earlier this year probably worked in our favour, as we managed to secure what would normally be a very sought-after spot. It’s also an easy drive into Myrtleford, making it a great balance of peaceful camping while still being close to town conveniences.

This place is fantastic and would highly recommend. Secluded and peaceful with the creek running slowly past. A nice distance out from Myrtleford to base yourself for plenty activities or just lazing around the fire. The toilets were way better than expected. Don’t think twice. Book this place. You won’t regret it.

We stayed at the Riverside Camp site and loved it. Amazing views of the river. Lots of space for our 2 dogs to enjoy. Very peaceful with sounds of the river rapids. Ian and Patrick were fantastic to deal with. Couldn’t ask for more. We have no doubt that we will return one day. A real stand out camping spot.

We had an awesome stay at Far End, hosted by Ian and Patrick. The campsite was peaceful, quiet, and exactly what we were looking for. One of the best parts was relaxing at night, watching the stars on a campfire and listening to the river such a calm and beautiful experience. You can really switch off and enjoy nature here. We also met Ian on our last day, and he was incredibly friendly and informative. He took the time to chat with us and even shared some great local fishing spots, which we really appreciated. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and we’d definitely stay again. Highly recommend Far End to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway and genuine hospitality.

The river side Camp was beautiful. The sound of the buffalo river flowing just 20 metres away from camp was so relaxing during the evening chats with friends and during bedtime. I could not get mobile signal with my carrier, but was a blessing as it allowed me to totally unplug and be present in the moment. If I did need to make calls, the town of Myrtleford was only a short drive away to do so as well as buy supplies etc. the town of Bright was also just a short distance away so a great way to spend a day sightseeing.

Shhhhh, don't tell anyone! This place should be kept a secret! Great campsite beside Buffalo River well worth the stay! Greeted by our accommodating hosts Ian and Patrick, we were shown to our campsite and that was it, nothing else needed to be said! A beautiful spot with great views and a strong flowing river to set the scene during our stay. Blessed with great weather with no wind, our stay was splendid! Ground was easy to peg our tent stakes in, toilet was clean and Telstra mobile reception was good but Optus struggled. Will definitely make another booking sometime in the near future!😀

We loved our stay at Buffalo River, the sites are large, the river access was beautiful and Patrick was very responsive and so very helpful. The property is so beautiful and great for groups. Our only advice if you have small kids and dogs would be to take one of the other sites as on a busy Easter weekend there was a bit of traffic through the riverside site but the lovely river access made up for that in spades. Highly recommend this property and would return if back in the area
