Buffalo River Retreat is the perfect place to unwind, explore, and reconnect with nature. Set on 50 acres of farmland just 15km from Myrtleford, our property offers over 1km of pristine Buffalo River frontage. Whether you’re a family looking for a safe, fun spot for the kids, a couple seeking a peaceful getaway, a group of friends, or a keen angler chasing your next catch, you’ll feel right at home here. Book a site and the entire space is yours. Each site is private, can fit a large number of campers, and is set apart from the other sites, guaranteeing ample space and privacy. Riverside: The first campsite, with a spacious flat lawn and rustic shade shelter, just 20 metres from a beautiful sandy river beach. Rocky River: The second site is set in a peaceful bush area only 20 metres from the river. This shady, tranquil spot is a favourite for those wanting a natural camping experience. The Pines: Located near the end of the property, around 600 metres beyond Riverside and Rocky River. This flat, shaded and secluded bush site sits roughly 40 metres from the river. With loads of open space and flat ground. Far End: As the name suggests, Far End sits right at the very end of our property and offers the utmost peace and privacy. This flat, shaded campsite is just 10–20 metres from the river and surrounded by trees, making it a favourite among returning guests. Nearby attractions: -Lake Buffalo for watersports and fishing -Bright and Myrtleford for bike trails, cafes and markets -Mount Buffalo and Mt Hotham for hiking or snow trips -The famous King Valley Wine Region Whether stargazing by the fire, fishing at dawn, or exploring the High Country, Buffalo River Retreat offers space, serenity, and a welcoming atmosphere for an unforgettable stay. Notes: Campfires are welcome in designated firepits (which you can safely move to suit your camp). FIREWOOD: 1 X $25 bundle = 1 wheelbarrow full. Add as an extra when booking for wood at campsite on arrival. If you need more wood while camping, we will kindly deliver it to your campsite! You're also welcome to bring your own firewood, and to burn sticks found on the ground and piled up in your camp area as firewood (this may fuel a small campfire depending on time of year, length of stay, etc.)

This is a flat, shaded and secluded camp area approx 10 to 20 mtrs from the river. This camp is very quiet and secluded and located at the far end of our property. Plenty of shade and very private. There are 3-6 flush toilets and a small sink and tap available at this site. As with all our camp sites, big groups of campers can fit in this site quite easily. A favorite amongst many visitors, this site has even been used to host a music festival many times. Note: The track to this site can sometimes be quite muddy. Therefore, IF the weather has been very wet we recommend 4WD's only. Check in and check out times are very flexible.

This is a flat, shaded and secluded bush camp area approx 40 mtrs from the river. It is located near the end of our property. Private with short walk down to the river. Shaded areas, and sun for solar. loads of space and flat ground to set up your campsite. The track to this site can sometimes be quite muddy. Therefore, if the weather has been very wet we recommend 4WD's only. Check in and check out times are very flexible.

Absolute peace and quiet. Tranquillity is the and fresh air. Great off grid facilities and ample spacing for ypur pups to run around. Will definitely be back there soon.

We loved the whole experience. The property is easily accessible in caravans. So so much space and huge camping areas. Other people camping but you would never know. Ian and Patrick are fabulous and friendly hosts. Great river access drop toilets which were very clean. Pet friendly. Highly recommend this hipcamp. We will definitely be back😁

Beautiful place to spend a weekend away. Amenities were basic but perfect for what we needed. Hosts popped by to say hi but otherwise we were left to enjoy our stay. Would definitely recommend to others and will be back to stay again!

Incredible place to stay, a real bonus having a toilet The most lovely host Ian. A fantastic flat super large area to set up. His property is a privilege to be allowed to stay. Wal has loved fishing in the river attempting to catch cod. He can see how big they are the water is so clear. Instead he has caught fresh crayfish. Our dogs have loved holidaying with many walks and swims. Very greatful for being allowed to bring them to Ian’s fantastic piece of paradise.

This is a stunning little patch of earth. Loved my little stay here right on the bank of the river. Ian and Patrick were warm and friendly hosts, and I'm looking forward to coming back in good time.

Not bad but not great with kids as you cannot see the river from campsite, you must walk down the bank through the scrub to access river.

Lovely quiet easy to access camp spot. Amazing toilet facilities! Best drop toilet I’ve ever seen. Zero odour and super clean. Great firepit with grill. Short walk to the river and short drive to town if needing anything.

Absolutley amazing camp! Campsite is huge and is located riverside, easy access to the water, also shallow and kid friendly. Would definitely suit large groups or any families with kids. Flushing toilet block is a short walk with a tap and sink. Easy directions. Highlights by far is the privacy, space and river- so close to campsite, fresh and crystal clear water. Met Ian and son Patrick- super nice people. Thanks for having us, catch up again soon!

Great spot on the river Ian and Patrick very friendly and accommodating. River crystal clear couldn't hear anything above the river noise and local birds, very clean and drop toilets very handy.

A wonderfully tranquil spot by the river with immaculately clean toilets. Feels like you are surrounded by nature. The river is clean with crystal clear water, perfect for cooling off from the sun and for fishing.

We stayed on the river side, location was beautiful and peaceful. Patrick and Ian are great people who are easy to deal with. I highly recommend the spot for anyone especially family’s with dogs.

This is a great spot to camp with friends; the spots are very large and well spaced along a beautiful stretch of the Buffalo River. The toilets are immaculately clean and well maintained. The best thing about this spot is the peace and tranquillity of the river and country; we spent hours splashing around and fishing before warming up in front of the provided fire pits. Ian and Patrick are great hosts, very responsive and helpful.

Really enjoyed the stay, one of the best we’ve camped at. Very spacious, amazing views and loved fishing by the river. The dogs had so much fun running around. Ian and Patrick are amazing hosts and we will definitely be back.

Loved camping here, beautiful spot, very quiet and private. The river was close by and the water was super clear and clean, we enjoyed going for a morning dip even in the cold weather. The host is very communicative, easy going and friendly. The farm animals were cute! Would recommend this place to anyone!

Absolutely perfect! Ian and Patrick were great? They supplied us with everything we needed as well as gave us space to truly enjoy the beautiful land, and the pristine river running right next to our spot. Perfect for dogs, we had 3, small and large, and they loved it out there! Top 3 camping spots of all time for me!

Beautiful property. Ian and Helene welcomed us even though we arrived late at night around 10.30pm. Showed us to our site where firewood was provided with a fire pit. Lovely stream next to site. Saw 3 wombats. Great place to stay.

We have just spent 4 wonderful days camping near the river at Buffalo River Retreat, a great spot to stay, relax and explore the surrounding area. Ian and Helene were very welcoming we hope to return in the future.

We just enjoyed a wonderful long weekend at Buffalo River Retreat. The spot (one of the bush camps) by the river was exactly what we'd hoped to find and was a spot of solitude on a long weekend! Had a great time relaxing under the trees and swimming in the river. Can't wait to return!
