Billabong Flats Farm is a 100 Acre property enhanced by 1km of King River access in the heart of Wangaratta, North East Victoria. It has an abundance of birdlife including Kookaburras, Kingfishers, Blue Wrens, Cormorants and many types of water birds. The property is in a fantastic location to the Wangaratta township as it is only 1.5 kms drive into town to get all your supplies if required including, Aldi, Woolworths, Coles, Dan Murphys, Kmart, Camping Stores, Petrol Stations, Cinema, Bowling Alley and the wonderful choice of Hotels, Restaurants and Take away options if required. Mains water is available at the property to top up your Vans or Gerry cans should you need to replenish, so never run out of water 😊 It is surrounded by picturesque green countryside laden with ancient Red Rivergum Trees and billabongs with access to river frontage for fishing and the King River Site and White Cedar sites have a swimming hole for those hot summer days. The Secret Island site does have a swimming spot but not as safe for little ones. The river is ideal for swimming, floating and fishing. Choose either to relax with a book and a glass of wine and do nothing or go and explore the many attractions of the wonderful North East area including the beautiful King Valley, Beechworth, Bright, Yarrawonga and Rutherglen plus many other gorgeous areas that have Art Trails or Silo Art Trails, all of which are 30-60 minutes drive from the property. Billabong Flats Farm sites are very spacious with each section private from other Campers with a fire pit provided at the site plus an abundance of open area for recreation for kids and dogs to run around. The King River Site is an extra large riverside bush campsite that could accommodate a large group of Vans (10 at least). It has a designated fire pit and Campers will need to have own Toilet/Shower amenities and be and leave no trace behind when leaving us. Accessible for most types of vehicles. Dog friendly if well behaved and controlled and won't chase the Cattle. Campfires permitted when restrictions aren't in place, firewood for sale (see Extras). We are close to the region’s attractions including 15mins drive to Brown Brothers Winery in Milawa, many Lookouts and National Parks, Lake William Hovell, Restaurants, Wineries and Distilleries of this special area.

Private alcove on the property with the King River meandering its way around your camp, good for fishing and enjoying nature. We even spotted a platypus rolling around in the river the other evening. Surrounded by River Gums this is a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the countryside. Flat grassy areas for your enjoyment and relaxation all to yourselves with plenty of room for your kids and dogs to roam and play. You can swim at this site but it is muddy on the entrance to the river at this site but sand out in the middle of the river.

Exclusive use of a great spacious and private camp area situated along the banks of the King River, 1km away from the main house, great spot for swimming or fishing. Fire Pit area and Picnic Table at this site along with designated Camp Oven Pit. Plenty of room for 10 Caravans or more and suited to larger groups. This is a shaded area for those hot days smothered in River Gums and blanketed with mowed grass areas. There is a swimming hole for you to enjoy and some great fishing spots too. Bring along your pool floaty items for the river. Fresh mains water is available up at the Main House if you need to top up your tanks. Please ensure to put the property address in your GPS once you have received this from us. Sometimes the Hipcamp google maps is taking our guests to a neighbouring farm on other side of the river 🏕️

White Cedar River View Site

White Cedar River view site is located on flat ground overlooking the King river and has access for fishing on the King River. The most gorgeous White Cedar tree provides an abundance of shade and River Gums are surrounding along with Billabong views at certain times of the year dependant on rainfall. You will have exclusive use of this site and easy access for Caravans and Camper Trailers and only a 8 min drive into Wangaratta to get all your supplies. There is also a swimming hole nearby for those hot days and a fire pit to snuggle around for the fresher evenings (subject to fire restrictions of course 🙂). Plentiful mains water available nearby on the property.

Riverview Camp -no swimming hole

Exclusive use of this campsite with River views and access for fishing along with lovely farm views and billabong views (seasonal). Riverside Campsite is a fairly flat grassy space on the banks of the King River, perfect for fishing and relaxing only 7 mins drive into Wangaratta Township so perfect to restock on supplies. Please note, there is no safe swimming spots at this site, it is purely a camping/fishing/relaxing site. Guests will need to be self contained, take waste with them and leave no trace when departing please. Please note guests on the White Cedar site may be visible across the paddock from quite a distance away. A small firepit is provided and redgum firewood can be purchased for $15 per bundle via extras on booking page. Mains water/Potable water available at the house as you enter a tap further down the track closer to the site.

Beautiful shady spot by the King River. Hosts were very responsive and friendly. Town water available close by if needed. Very close to town but far enough out of town to feel like you were out in the bush. We will return!

Actually we had a choice of all Kerryn’s sites and chose the White Cedar. Such a lovely site beside a huge Cedar tree and the King River. Everything was set up. Wood for the open fire together with a grate for cooking, big logs for sitting around the open fire. Bird life was amazing, kookaburras sang night and morning. The solitude was terrific amazing as it was just a short distance from town. I walked my dog on the property and watched the kangaroos. There were even fish jumping in the river unfortunately we forgot our fishing rods. Our hosts were very friendly and wanted to make sure that we were aware of our surrounds and to stay safe. I would highly recommend BillaBong Flats farm it’s in such a beautiful part of Victoria.

My friends and I had the most wonderful five nights off grid camping in our vans. So much space, wonderful swimming hole. The fishing was amazing! Fire pit well set out, so much wood supplied! Kerryn and John were both so lovely, so welcoming and happy to help with any request. The access to mains water on the property was a game changer!! We will be back, in fact we all didn’t want to leave!

From the moment we booked our stay, Kerryn was prompt with communication. Each site is so spacious, with plenty of room for big groups. We enjoyed the whole area to ourselves, which was amazing. The property is really well maintained with a nice big fire pit to use, and it is literally just a 2-3 minute drive out of Wangaratta. The fishing was great too, having caught a Murray Cod during our quick visit. I would highly recommend staying here.

Lovely site next to the river and very close to Wangaratta should you need anything or just want to get takeaway for dinner. Shady trees as well as some open area for solar panels. Host Kerryn is lovely and we enjoyed our stay.

This was our 3rd visit to Billabong Flats in a year. We love the fact that each campsite is well away from each other and that all sites gives access to the river. Thanks to Kerryn and John for sharing your property with us once again. We'll be back again early next year.

Secret Island River View Site
We had a wonderful time, the site was incredibly spacious and very private. The hosts were very understanding of our car troubles delaying our arrival and even offered advice on how to fix the car. Our daughter and dog had a wonderful time running around the site and playing in the river. Horses were super friendly! We hope to return soon!

White Cedar River View Site
Our family of 4 and our Belgian malinois thoroughly enjoyed the White Cedars site. We stayed in early September 2025 and had the whole place to ourselves. I always look at safety for my kids and dog and I always felt safe. It’s super convenient being only a 5min drive into town. Our dog had the best time off lead without worrying whether he was going to run off and chase kangaroos. It’s super peaceful and heaps to do - bushwalking, spotlighting, fishing, bird watching and in summer I imagine swimming. We loved it so much we may return for our 50th with family and friends. Our hosts are really friendly and accomodating. Five out of five !

This is what Hipcamp is about. Great property well located and awesome hosts to boot. Easy access although you might need 4WD if its wet as the track out gets a bit soft, but sites are well located with fireplaces

Riverview Camp -no swimming hole
We unexpectedly stopped in Wangaratta overnight on our way home back to Melbourne and found this great place on Hipcamp. Such a beautiful spot and my kids loved seeing the horses and little baby lambs. John and Kerryn were very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely come back here with the family and enjoy some extra days there next time.

We absolutely loved this spot. It was so private, away from anybody else. We had enough firewood for the 2 nights we stayed. This would be a perfect place for children to play in amongst the bush where parents can still see them. Plenty of phone service and Kerryn was an amazing host. Highly recommended, we will definately be back.

We loved our stay at the Secret Island site! It was lovely and private and was the perfect space for our small children to explore and play! Even a little cubby made of sticks! It was the perfect stop on our way through the region and we’d definitely love to stay again!
