This place is a must when passing through the area or exploring Mt Field national park and Gorden dam. Derek is a tremendous host , full of information on the area and Tasmania in general. We had as much free fire wood as we wanted, water available and a beautiful grassed area over looking the Derwent river. If you like wine, grab a bottle or two of Derek’s reds he makes on the property, and for a hot tip ask him to give you a tour of his vineyard. Thank you Derek for a wonderful 5 night stay. Hopefully we will be back in a few weeks.

The perfect place to camp for a few days. The site is huge, flat and runs along the side of the river. It’s beautiful country. Derek is a fantastic host and also respectful of your privacy whilst you’re camping there. The horses he has at his property became great friends to our kids! Great place. Cheers Derek.

This is our second time camping at Derek's farm and his gem is now our favourite spot in Tassie. Derek is one of the nicest hosts ever. He has so much knowledge of the area. He brough some carrots and apples for the kids to feed the friendly horses. We had had a wonderful time and have already booked for the new year. Thank you Derek for sharing your beautiful property. You need to be fully self contained.

We had such an amazing time at Ryelands again. Derek is such a wonderful host bringing carrots for our girls to feed his horses while also giving them both a little keepsake of a Spotted Quoll. This spot is beautiful and pure bliss with ample space for a group of just to enjoy on your own right by the riverside. Plus the wine Derek makes is fabulous! We will be back again

Derek's place is stunningly beautiful, you are camping right on the river with plenty of flat space to perch. We have a rig that's the max size recommended for the site and it was a breeze to get in and out. The vista is stunning, peaceful and the site is so private and very well maintained, with clean tables and chairs and fire pits to use. The free firewood appreciated. Great communication and clear instructions. A very special place, thank you Derek.

What an awesome spot. Derek is a wonderful host, friendly and very informative. Setup has tables, great fire pit and wood supplied. There is access to water straight out of the Derwent River, nothing fresher.
Great place to go and explore the Mt Field National Park, Gordon Dam or Salmon Ponds and a must is Plenty Cider right next door (to Salmon Ponds).
Close enough for a run into New Norfolk for their Saturday morning street market. Gretna Green Hotel is just up the highway.

Can’t not recommend this place enough !! We had the best stay, the host Derek was so welcoming, thoughtful and helpful. We arrived to a pristine campsite with a fire ready to go. Derek gave us so much info about the area which we loved as first time visitors !!

Derek is a wonderful host and the property is well set up. The fire pit and picnic table is a nice spot and the access to the Derwent River is perfect.
Closest he highway yet so quiet. Clean public toilet around the corner at Gretna is handy.

Lovely quiet spot along the river. We kayaked 20 minutes down and came across a fur seal. Lots of platypus about. Derek was very friendly.

Ryelands Farm & Vineyard is a great place to camp for a few days. Private and secluded with great river access and views.
We were lucky enough to spot a Quill at night , but the highlight was having the resident Platypus swim right up to me in the river.
Derek is a friendly easy going host who puts a lot of work into making his guests feel welcome.
The picnic table , bbq and firepit with ample wood provided made for an easy and comfortable stay. We didn’t manage to try Derek’s wine this visit but will on our return in the near future.
Some phone signal by the rivers edge was useful and an easy 15-20 minute drive to New Norfolk if you need to stock up and find a dump point.

The site is in a beautiful spot next to the river with plenty of space to relax. Derek was very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed his wine very much. There was a barbecue which could be used but due to wild fire restrictions at the time we didn't.

This is one of our favourite Hipcamp spots we ever visited! We had a wonderful weekend on the riverbank with a peaceful atmosphere. We made use of the firepit as wel as the Weber bbq and the picnic table is an added bonus. Derek is lovely too. Our children including our puppy had the best time on the river with their standup board. We will be back!

I loved tent camping at Ryelands Farm and Vineyard Camping. The water view was beautiful with peaceful surrounding. The site is spacious and private. River sound infront of paddock was relaxing. There is fire pit and also a Charcoal barbecue. Derek was an awsome host. He welcomed us at gate and rundown about site. Derek brought us a bottle of his homemade wine too on our request. Me and my wife enjoyed our time at the camp site.

Ryelands Farm & Vineyard Camping was easily one of the best Hipcamps we’ve had the pleasure of staying at. From the moment we booked, the communication with the host was exceptional—clear, friendly, and helpful, making us feel well-prepared for our visit. Upon arrival, we were greeted personally by the host, who took the time to introduce himself and share his deep passion for the farm and its surrounding area.
The camp itself was nothing short of breathtaking. Nestled in a picturesque location, the natural beauty surrounding the site was truly mind-blowing. It felt like we had stumbled upon a secluded oasis, with plenty of space to relax and unwind.
Our host was an absolute wealth of knowledge about the local history, and we felt like we had our very own personal tour guide. His stories about the area’s past were fascinating, and it really added a unique, enriching touch to our experience. Whether it was the history of the farm or the surrounding land, we were captivated by his insights.
A highlight of our stay was definitely the swimming in the river. After a warm day of exploring, there was nothing more refreshing than cooling off. It was the perfect way to end each day.
And let’s not forget the wine! The owner bottles his own wine, and trust us, it’s a must-try. A glass of locally produced wine while sitting by the river made for an unforgettable evening.
Overall, this is a true standout in the Hipcamp community. If you’re looking for a peace.

I stayed at Ryelands in my campervan, just myself & my dog. It is a beautiful location right on the river, spotlessly clean & peaceful. I felt very safe & added touches with a table, stools, fire pit were excesllent. Derek is an excellent, thoughtful & generous host. It's really interesting having a look around his vineyard & seeing how it operates. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying here especially if you have a large group of people - plenty of room all to yourself. The river is magic to swim in.
