We loved our stay here. We were the only ones camped so it was very peaceful and quiet. Only a short drive into Bicheno and surrounding wineries. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks Jacqui.

Overall we enjoyed our stay here. The campsite is based close to some nice hikes and the town of Bicheno (which is well worth checking out). It is important to note that this campsite is just an empty field situated right on the highway so you will get traffic noise, the lagoon is a mossy/mud surface and not fun to walk in and quite smelly. Our dog was Filthy after walking in it. We also thought the grass could have been slashed for the Christmas period at the minimum? The whole site is covered in a weird prickle which will have you jumping up and down, so no walking around barefoot (They even get you through picnic rugs) A good camp for an overnight stay or if you plan on exploring every day. Overpriced for what you get

We booked this campsite as it was close to Freycinet National Park. We found the campsite to be overpriced. No amenities.
Pretty much a water logged field. Not great value for money.

The only good thing about this camp is there is plenty of space between campers and a short walk to the beach. The location is not where the Hipcamp map places it, well off the main road. The camping area backs onto the main highway between Bicheno and Saint Helens, so you get all the traffic noise. Expensive for where it is, go to the other side of Bicheno to the Pondering Frog for $10/n with water.

We loved our stay here. You could choose where to park and your favorite outlook. There was only one other camper when we arrived beginning of easter break and one more caravan arrived. We were so far away from each other. It felt very private. We did chat to our far away neighbours when we crossed paths. Close enough to Bicheno 5 mins drive and far enough away to be away from the easter crowds. It was a lovely town. We were close enough to walk the dogs to the beach or drive to the leash free side. We were next to Nature World which we visited and did the Devils in the Dark encounter. Those little Tassie devils, tell a dramatic story.
The dump point is close to Bicheno boat ramp and there is fresh drinking water available at the Surf Life saving club. Would recommend..

Jacqui’s place at Coalmine Lagoon makes a good base to explore the Bicheno area and Douglas Appsley National park . The camp is about 7 minutes north of Bicheno and about 40 -45 minute drive to Coles Bay -Freycinet area . The camp sites are level . The site is close to the main road so some traffic noise in daylight but minimal after dark . Of the 4-5 camp areas , 3 are close to the lagoon side of the paddock . The area is big enough that campers are a fair distance apart but no trees or shrubs to give full privacy to each site .
The lagoon setting makes for pleasant sunrise viewing . The edges of the lagoon are muddy so not easy to access the water itself , better to walk further to Douglas beach . There is strong 5g phone and internet connection at the site . There is only one available fire pot on the site so we were advise to bring our own . Jacqui was camped on site when we arrived and using her firepot . As it turned out the high winds on the weekend meant a fire wasn’t possible .
Overall we felt Coalmine Lagoon makes a good base camp but not a great camp to hang out during the day . The $50 nightly fee is on the high side for the limited facility camping experience , but at least you get distance from your fellow campers . Would be best to check access in wet weather .
Jacqui was onsite during our visit and friendly and helpful with gate access and safety information .

Lovely and private. Very relaxing and peaceful.
Would definitely recommend if you don't want to be amongst the hustle and bustle. Still within a quick drive to town. The firewood and fire pit was a great addition.

Big open space, great location just out of the bustle of Bicheno & so close to nature world which is lovely to visit!
Access to the lagoon, can be muddy but lovely birdlife to see.
Jacqui was friendly, accomodating & helpful with advice on the local area for us!

Everything was ok but a little underwhelming considering the price.
When we arrived there were reserved signs up in the prime spot for a large (and noisy) group meaning that we were only metres from the main road.
Walking access to the beach was not available and access to the lagoon was blocked by the previously mentioned group.

Great spot, very open, sunny and feels private even though you're just off the highway. Lovely waterfront spots and only a short walk to the beach. Right next to nature world and would highly recommend checking out Devils in the dark while you're staying! (Book ahead though)
