What to Expect • Rugged Access: 4WD required via a private track (follow the deer fence on the left, as shown in the photo). Check conditions before arrival, as access may vary with weather. • Secluded Serenity: 100 acres of private bushland with flat camping spots. • Stunning Views: Panoramic mountain vistas and forested horizons. • Wildlife: Spot native Tasmanian animals and birds. What to Do • Broad River: Relax or fish in its clear waters. • Cluny Lagoon: Fish at the nearby boat ramp. • Explore: Hike trails at Mount Field National Park. • Stargaze: Enjoy campfires (local restrictions apply) under clear, dark skies. Guest Tips • 4WD Essential: The terrain is rugged - see photo for track details. • Toilet: No onsite facilities; bring a portable or self-contained caravan toilet (Hipcamp policy). • Self-Sufficient: Bring your own water, food, and camping gear. • Nature Care: Follow Leave No Trace principles and pack out all waste. Why Stay A true off-grid adventure for nature lovers - tranquil, wild, and breathtakingly remote. Perfect for 4WD campers seeking solitude, stargazing, and Tasmanian wildlife encounters. Important Disclaimer: Please understand this is an unmanicured piece of land, and you can camp wherever is suitable for you - but this at times requires some clearing (such as thistles) to make yourself comfortable. We can't control occasional noises in this rural setting, such as distant groups or activities on neighbouring private land, or possible machinery sounds from neighbouring commercial farming activities. Tasmania is home to venomous snakes, including tiger snakes, which are occasionally seen near rivers, grassy areas, or under logs during warmer months (spring to autumn). They generally avoid people and will move away if given space. To stay safe: make noise when walking, wear sturdy boots, keep pets supervised/on-lead and do not approach, handle, or try to move it.The site provides ample space, with 1-2 acres of flat terrain - perfect for setting up tents, caravans, fifth wheels, or camper trailers. Nestled among native trees and sandstone cliffs, ensures a secluded wilderness experience with room to roam and relax. Plus, good news for families - kids aged 12 or below stay for free, making it an affordable adventure for all. Accessing Amenities: This off-grid retreat operates on a self-sufficient basis, with no onsite facilities. Guests must bring a portable toilet or use a self-contained caravan (per Hipcamp policy), along with water, food, and camping gear. Access to the property is via a private 4WD-only track, marked by a deer fence on the left off Dawson Road, featuring small sandy and wetland sections - drive slowly. Once at the site, you'll find several flat spots ideal for camping, and firewood from fallen branches is available for campfires (subject to local regulations). Accessing Activities: - Broad River: A short 2 minute walk along a clear path leads to the river, where guests can swim in the deep swimming hole (avoid when water flows rapidly), fish, or unwind by the banks. - Cluny Lagoon: A 10 minute drive takes guests to the boat ramp for fishing opportunities - bring your gear and a valid license. - Mount Field National Park: A 30-40 minute trip offers access to hiking trails, including Russell Falls, via well-marked roads from the site. - Wildlife Exploration: Guests can explore forest tracks directly from camp, looking for wallaby and deer tracks amidst native ferns. - Stargazing: Step outside your site for unobstructed views of the night sky, enhanced by campfires (local rules apply). This setup gives guests plenty of space to enjoy a true Tasmanian adventure, with all activities and self-managed amenities easily reachable by foot or 4WD.
