One of the best campground and places we stayed on in our 6 months around Australia Trip. The koala are so near and absolutely gorgeous. The communication with the owner are easy and clear. A lot of space and even big caravan will fit. The road is a little bit rough for the last 1km but shouldn't be a problem. Fly's can be annoying but all the rest is just amazing. Highly recommend this place .

Helen has a beautiful Beautiful spot to stay, the glamping tenting saved us from being rained on all night in our swags and the walk around the koala sanctuary was beautiful seeing a variety of wild animals up close. Helen is an amazing person with and the public is lucky to have access to such a place

Mikkira Koala Sanctuary was an amazing experience, camping in close proximity to Koalas. Listening to them communicate to each other during the night. So special . The property itself is lovely , quite expansive . We wandered around looking for koalas , we must have seen at least 20 individuals during our stay , also enjoying the wild flowers , Large grass trees . Loads of kangaroos and some emu.
If you have overseas visitors it’s a must visit .

If you’re looking for a caravan park experience, this isn’t the place to find it. Yes the roads a bit rough, and the toilets are basic - at least they flush! But if you’re after the most wonderful wildlife experience - this is where you’ll find it. Koalas everywhere you look. Wild free koalas doing koala stuff. Not to mention the roos, emus, birds and lizards. Huge camping areas, with fire pots scattered (bring your own firewood). This place is absolutely magical.

This place was amazing kangaroos and emus everywhere. But when it comes to koala's. You had to look for lump in the tree. Then there was another in next tree and the next tree they were everywhere. Up high down low and waddling across the ground. Well worth the 16 km of dirt road to get there. Recommend this place 100%... will return again to walk and explore the history on this wonderful sanctuary.

A picture perfect campsite so secluded and so incredibly beautiful. We didn’t see a koala however loved watching the kangaroos at play and the spectacular colours of the many varieties of birds. My favi part was being immersed in the stars. It was like standing in a fish bowl with stars covering you from your feet until as high as you can see. Spectacular experience. Thank you

The glamper camper was great so we didn’t have to set up our own tent or swag and got to sleep up off the floor. There was a fire pit next to ours which was very convenient! The property was beautiful, so green and so much open space to fit a lot of people. We saw so much beautiful wildlife on our walk including over 10 koalas, lots of kangaroos and emus and many different birds. I would highly recommend camping on this beautiful property.

I went for the koalas but was blown away by the history too. Fabulous spot and we had it all to ourselves. Lots of kangaroos, emus and other birds too. Brilliant.

Enjoyed the wildlife & being able to see the koalas up close. Peaceful camp site until the weather turned a bit pear shaped on us (gusty winds that’s rocked the camper really badly). Not a negative about the campsite - just unlucky with the weather. Would definitely go back if we were in that part of the country.

There are very few places in the world, you can be sitting by a fire, having a morning cuppa and watching a koala walk by, another in the tree behind you eating, 2 kangaroos boxing, while another 20plus watch and the sounds of the Lincoln Parrots and Galahs chattering away in the trees. A magical place!

A definite must to visit and stay. We set up camp and started our walk and the saw three koalas within 10m of camp. Good facilities and lots of other wildlife to view.

The toilets and the shower were disgusting and although we were told it had been a busy weekend and she hadn’t got around to cleaning, they weren’t cleaned the entire time we were there.
Ordered the fire bundle but didn’t receive it. Had to badger then and it was delivered late the first night once we were in bed.
There is concern for the koalas as people are patting them and encroaching in their space.
First time I have ever written a negative comment but felt I needed to share so that people know the reality.
Summary
The koalas are amazing!
Just be aware that you can’t rely on the I for nation given.
It’s 30 min from Port Lincoln and the gravel road in is rough!

What an amazing place! If you ever want to get back to nature and just enjoy the serenity than this is the place for you. Helen and Broden were very accommodating, was lovely to hear of the history, this place is a credit to you both and the family. We will be back and make sure we bring some friends to also enjoy your beautiful place. Thank you for your hospitality.

I enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and especially the wildlife which was plentiful. The old homestead was fascinating and helped give a historic perspective.

Beautiful camp grounds, amenities are basic but that's what camping is about.
Plenty of wildlife to see, a walk to look.for koalas is a must.
Unfortunately the weather was not the best so we couldn't do everything we wanted. Highly recommended for everyone.

Great place to visit and stay. We have stayed 3 nights on our way back to WA. Unfortunately SA Coast was having some extreme weather so we spend as much time enjoying everything it had to offer.
One thing we manage to do was find the koalas, such an awesome stay.

Koala Sanctuary indeed. Lots of these beautiful bears along with Emus & Roos & Galah, galah, galah. Gorgeous nature lovers campground with an historic cottage to explore. Toilets & Shower, firepit to create that real magickal camping vibe. This place is well loved & respected. The ancestors presence was powerful.

The toilets and shower were dirty. You had to stand in a tub to use the shower and then I lifted it to see if there was a drain it was full of hair. The light in the women's toilet did not work. A decomposing kangaroo carcass had been left in the camping area for so long you could see part of its skeleton. I love that the campsite supports the local koala population, but as a campsite it was unappealing.

We loved, our short stay at Mikkira Station Koala Sanctuary. The ability to see, the koalas up so close and in the wild was outstanding. The directions to get to the property were very clear and the host so helpful and friendly. A lovely night of off grid caravanning!\

My partner and I stayed here to see koalas in the wild. We thought we would be lucky to see one or two but I quickly lost count of how many koala's there were and we visited on a rainy and windy evening. It is an amazing place and one of my highlights on our trip to the Eyre Peninsula. We stayed over the Easter holidays and there was still plenty of space to select your campsite away from other campers. Thank you to Helen for opening up her place to the public.

I was attracted to this site for the koalas and they we're amazing! I can't believe I came across a family tree of koalas!
However, I did expect a hot shower which I was looking forward to as I had been shark diving that day and I needed a wash. Unfortunately there was not water pressure/water available the night I was there and confirmed the same with other campers, this was a disappointing and made do with another classic eyre penisula cold wash down.
This wouldn't be a deterrent for me for a future visit, more of a consideration that due to availability of water in the area a shower may not be available.

We had a fantastic stay at Mikkira Station Koala Sanctuary! It’s the perfect spot for camping—especially in a motorhome, with plenty of space and a peaceful setting. We were lucky to see so many koalas up close, which made the experience truly special. Helen is absolutely lovely and made us feel very welcome. Highly recommend this spot for nature lovers and campers alike!

The only problem was that hot water wasn’t working so I didn’t enjoy taking showers

Peaceful spot. Lots of koalas, kangaroos, and emus. Our kids are koala obsessed so this was their dream! Spacious unassigned camping. Plenty of space to run and ride bikes. An old homestead to look at. Camp is a lot drier than in the Hipcamp photos- just like the rest of SA at the moment. Fingers crossed for rain soon.
