Hello! We would love to share the Winter Wetlands Sanctuary in Kuitpo with you. The little sanctuary has been specifically designed to accommodate Campervans and Self-driven motorhomes WITH ON-BOARD TOILETING & GREYWATER TANK. Please understand that our business model licence and insurance policy has stringent conditions attached to it. *WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ACCEPT SELF-DRIVEN CAMPERVANS/MOTORHOMES THAT ARE 7.5m OR LESS IN LENGTH* They must be equipped with their own toilet facilities and greywater reservoir due to governmental zoning regulations. Do NOT book unless you have your own toileting amenities and grey water tank. No human waste policy applies. If you have to cancel your booking because you do not meet these requirements, you will NOT be refunded. It is out of our hands. Our Insurance policy has stringent conditions:- *NO CARAVANS, TRAILERS, OR TENTS.* *NO CHILDREN* *NO PETS* Now that THAT is all said: Forest Gate B&B has been receiving guests on the property for nearly 40 years and the Winter Wetlands is a small private sanctuary that we share with our guests who enjoy the countryside and the open air. We run a small farm in the Adelaide Hills, and over the past 10 years, have been developing this little safe haven in the Southern corner of our property. We are trying to encourage the proliferation of local wildlife that everyone can enjoy both now and in the future. The Winter Wetlands is NOT a 'caravan park'. It is a small, private, sanctuary, which is at it's best in the cold wet Winter months when the pond/ dam comes to life. Guests can kick back around the campfire overlooking the dam, as they listen to the crickets and frogs in the evenings. There is a resident Western Grey kangaroo, many possums (both ring-tail and brush-tail), native burrowing rats, koalas and an occasional wandering echidna (if you are lucky enough to see one). There's a plethora of birdlife, including favourites such as blue wrens, fairy wrens, and a resident family of white-winged choughs. The Sanctuary caters for a maximum of seven bookings (2 guests per booking) at any one time. Often, you will have the Sanctuary all to yourselves. There are many little picnic spots. We request that guests leave no sign of visitation, and take all waste with them. CAMPERVAN SITES: As stated previously, regulations only allow the following: *SELF-DRIVEN CAMPERVANS OR MOTORHOMES THAT ARE 7.5m OR LESS IN LENGTH* *NO CARAVANS, TRAILERS, OR TENTS.* We have 7 independent, unpowered, sites that are suited for Class A or B campervans or motorhomes ONLY. ACCESS: There is easy, main road access into the 'Winter Wetlands Sanctuary' from Brookman road. GPS: -35.21694, 138.6970. There is a clearly marked, one-way, stone road that leads to all available sites. Look for the gateway on Brookman Road, bordered by two giant gum-trees (with reflectors on them) and two white wooden rails. Next to the gate, you will read the notice of Conditions of Entry. COMMUNAL AREAS: The communal shelter shed, picnic areas, and two communal camp fires offer a variety of places to relax and watch the local birds enjoy the area. NEARBY FEATURES include: - Directly across the road from the Heysen Trail in the beautiful Kuitpo Forest. - 3-4 minutes to exceptional SA wineries including K1 (4 mins down the road), and Perrini (in the nearby township of Meadows) . - Near Echunga Goldfields (Jupiter creek) (20 km away), and Prospect Hill (4 km away) for fossicking. - Kuipto Forest TreeClimb is only 2 km up the road and has thousands of visitors per annum. - Easy access to tourist townships of McLaren Vale (15 mins), Hahndorf (25 mins), Mt Barker (25 mins) and Willunga, which is well known for its Saturday Morning Market (15 mins). - Facilities such as Pharmacy, Medical clinic, Petrol Station, Hotel, and Bakery can be found in Meadows, only 5 mins away. The Winter Wetlands are fully fenced ensuring privacy. In the interest of the wellbeing of local wild life, nearby stock, and neighbours, we ask that you do not play loud music at night. WASTE: NO HUMAN WASTE. There is a Waste Dump Point in Meadows (6 km away) near the footy oval (Brooks street rec. ground, GPS: -35.180278, 138.76). Forest Gate is a working farm. There are regularly livestock in the paddocks adjacent to the Winter Wetlands. There is also an open dam and a communal fireplace in the Winter Wetlands. Due to our insurance policy, we can not allow children or pets. Therefore, stays in the Winter Wetlands are only available to adults.

Site 2 is one of the smaller sites at the Winter Wetlands, but has a little more privacy than Sites 3-7. We would love to have you as guests in the Winter Wetlands. However, we can only accept visitors who meet the following criteria: **WE ONLY ALLOW SELF-DRIVEN CAMPERVANS AND MOTOR HOMES THAT ARE 7.5m OR LESS IN LENGTH** DO NOT BOOK IF YOU ARE NOT IN A FULLY SELF-CONTAINED CAMPERVAN OR MOTORHOME UNDER 7.5m WITH ON-BOARD TOILETING AND GREYWATER TANK. TENTS, CARAVANS, AND TRAILERS ARE NOT PERMITTED. The Winter Wetlands make up 2 acres of the South West corner of Forest Gate farm. There are seven individual sites for campervans. Sites 1 and 2 are nestled alongside the small pine plantation; Sites 3 - 7 are separated by native trees and bushes. Site 2 is 8 m x 3.5 m wide. (see map for more details). Each site at the Winter Wetlands is a flat grassy space, with easy drive-in, reverse-out access. All sites are clearly marked and some privacy is provided by surrounding flora. There is a communal BBQ shelter with chairs and a picnic table that guests can use. Alternately, guests may choose to sit on the bank next to the second firepit, and watch the ducks, ducklings, native birds and other wildlife. The two communal fireplaces are out of use throughout the fire ban period, generally 1st December to 30th April, or as otherwise directed by the CFS. Guests are advised to keep abreast of current restrictions. The Winter Wetlands was initially designed to provide a sanctuary for native fauna, and revegetate native flora. This has been a successful project, and the Winter Wetlands are now home to a variety of wildlife including ducks, birds, kangaroos, possums, lizards, fish and frogs. Winter Wetlands Sanctuary Site 2
Very close to a main road. Could do with some hedges or shrubs to block it out. Camp sites close together with only 2 fire pits. Alan and Sarah were friendly and good hosts. We were lucky that we brought firewood as it got very cold and we used it all. Would return but probably only of we had a group of friends in the other camps.

Great overnighter for self sufficient campers in the forest. Site one is pretty small but the others are decent sized. Lovely little dam, very peaceful. Enjoyable stay thank you.

Spent a night camping at Kuitpo Winter Wetlands Sanctuary and it was awesome. The sites are nice and open, with plenty of space.Surrounded by pine trees, it’s super peaceful—perfect if you just want to relax and enjoy nature. Was also nice to meet the owner, Alan—he’s super friendly and even came to rescue us when we got a bit lost! Would definitely go back for another quiet weekend away.

Alan and Sarah were amazing hosts, their camp grounds were super neat and tidy. It was a great central point for exploring the surrounding areas with some cool hiking trails just across the road. Plenty of shade thoughout the day, would happily stay there again!

An absolutely gorgeous little place that only has 7 sites but is beautifully landscaped with a lovely big lake and rows of wonderful tall pine trees that gives you the feeling you are camping in the forest. It is for self contained vans only, There are no toilets there and it’s also for Adults only. It was so peaceful and Hubby and I felt instantly relaxed as We walked around the property checking out everything. There are so many beautiful flowers and bushes in bloom and the wild life , mostly birds, is spectacular. We met Alan ( owner) and he was such a welcoming , friendly man who we had a nice chat with. There are two big Camp fires at this property and We used the one by the open faced shed that had heaps of chairs and a table to sit on/ at if needed. We actually cooked our roast on the coals of the fire and it was the best damn roast We have ever had. We bought our own wood but there was a small pile there to use if you forgot to bring some. All in all it was such a wonderful place to stay and We would definitely come back here in the future. We would also recommend this Hipcamp highly and We will be telling all Our friends about it . I would give this amazing little property a 5 /5🤩. Thank you Alan and Sarah for allowing Us to stay on your gorgeous land. We enjoyed it thoroughly and can’t wait to come back ❤️

Magical little place if you have a self contained motorhome. We parked in the cute little pine forest, Firepit setup for us on arrival, and cycled to the beautful K1 winery. A lot of love put into the well maintained flowering property and the lovely owners even popping in to say hi.

Great spot to pull into with our fully self contained campervan after a day exploring McLaren Vale. Great central location, easy to find, beautiful well maintained land. Close to the road but still very peaceful. We loved our morning coffee in the sun on the logs overlooking the dam.
