Poorly Managed by Host
9 m pop-up camper · With pets · Firstly we love Hipcamp. The experience we had with management at Big4 Port Elliott, however is a prime example why Hipcamp should refrain from accepting mainstream holiday chains such as Big 4 on their platform. We, along with our friends, booked an unpowered site plus a cabin for two nights. $600+ between us. We checked in and grabbed a bag of wood for $22. Our friends went to check in and Management turned them away, stating they didn't have a booking. They proceeded to provide proof of the booking via the Hipcamp App and proof of the $500+ transaction. Despite this they refused check in, stating they could't do any thing about it and it was up to them to sort out a refund with Hipcamp. They then had the audacity to offer the exact accomodation they had already booked for an additional $750! Despite travelling almost 2 hours, they refused to honour the booking and were not open to any resolution. We complained about how poorly run the business is and returned to our cars to discuss the 2hour return home. As we were about to leave the manager approached us and said he had spoken to his boss who had proof of the booking so would honour the booking. No apology whatsoever for the 40minute stress. He kept complaining about Hipcamp despite them processing the booking correctly.
Our site- pokey, literally the width of a camper and awning.... and the wood issued did not burn despite almost a box of firelighters, we resorted to buying an bag at Goolwa that burnt no worries.
