Located between Rockhampton and Emu Park beach. 711 Thompson Point Road Nankin Our campsites are located in a rural setting with plenty of shady trees, friendly cows and mountain views close to the Fitzroy River. Relax around a campfire on a peaceful dam and listen to the kookaburras. Dip your toes into the cool water whilst sipping watching the sunset. It is 10km to the upgraded Fitzroy River/Thompson Point boat ramp and pontoon. Enjoy some excellent fishing and crabbing on the river, bird watching and bush walking up the many hills. Only 1/2 hr. drive to the beaches (Emu Park and Yeppoon), National Parks (Mt Etna Caves, Mt Archer Baga, Limestone Creek), and Rockhampton (Kershaw Gardens and Rockhampton Free Zoo). Campfires in the firepits provided on each site. Pre-cut fire wood for sale on site. Pets are welcome, however the must be kept within your allocated campsite area and supervised at all time. (Dogs are not allowed to chase livestock or native animals). Quiet genset are also allowed. Definitely no boats to be backed into the dam for washing purposes. Fish cleaning and boat washing facilities at the solar bore near front entrance. Telstra mobile reception. TV reception with antenna. We a setup for fully self contained camping, however there is a basic bush shower/toilet available for our campers. The dam is a pristine eco area and no soap/detergents/chemicals to used in/around it. The dam is stocked with silver perch and bass – catch and release. Camp site caters for 2 Adults and up to 4 kids per site. Come and Take-A-Break.

We stayed at Site 5, overlooking the dam, and it was so peaceful and relaxing. We loved meeting the friendly cows and farm dogs, and our Labrador, Ralphy, especially enjoyed cooling off in the dam — a perfect escape from the heat. The setting was beautiful, the atmosphere tranquil, and the hosts were just the right balance between warm hospitality and privacy. A truly lovely stay.

Such a stunning spot — we caught both sunset and sunrise right from camp! Surrounded by beautiful wildlife and the kindest hosts (plus the lovely couple helping out on the property). Couldn’t have asked for a better stay. 🌅🌄✨

Absolutely fab stay!! Ended up booking for a second night on our way back down from Daintree. Stunning place to fish and wake up to. Plus, very spacious and quiet site with everything you need :) would highly recommend!

Lovely spot, allocated a space by phoning Ian on arrival to find out where we were staying. Easy to find. 2WD accessible Unfortunately, the drop loo is in a cow field and all the cows had congregated next to it overnight and seemed distressed at us getting close to the gate which meant we didn’t feel safe to use the loo

Great place to stay. Very quiet and peaceful. Close to Rockhampton for dump point , water and other sight seeing. . Kids swam in the dam and caught yabbies and fish. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Ice , firewood and even eggs for sale on site. Highly recommend

Great little spot away from the city. The cows were adorable and the set up was well thought out. Bush amenities for those in tents or wanting to save room in their RVs and plenty of wood available at the honesty box. Even though there was a dam and reeds, the sand fly situation was pretty low due to heaps of dragon flies. The hardest part was trying to find a level enough ground to park the van but even that wasn’t too much trouble. Definitely recommend this place for couples and families and if I were to head that way again, I’d definitely rebook.

This camp is awesome. We loved it!! So peaceful, safe and definitely not like a crowded caravan park. Thanks for the stay!! Loved the eggs. Easy access of the wood and thanks for helping us out when we ran out of gas mid meal hahahha

We had an amazing experience at this Hipcamp! Ian greeted us upon arrival and guided us to our beautiful site, #11, located on the hill with stunning views. Every site offers breathtaking scenery, and the peaceful surroundings made for a perfect getaway. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend it to everyone!

Beautiful views, serene spot. Easy directions on how to access property and Ian came and said hello/checked in with us. Toilets and showers are what you would expect from a bush campsite. Would recommend!!

Got recommended Take-a-break bush camp by a friend, and it did not disappoint. Wonderful campground, calm and relaxing! Warm shower and an outdoor toilet was great. Not too close to neighbouring campgrounds. Also, Ian and Tracy was really accommodating and great hosts, especially with my late arrival. I was met with patience, a smile and got shown my spot in the dark. Wish I had more time there the morning after. Thank you!

It was amazing ! Loved the place, Tracy and Ian are really nice they gave us the indications to access the site right away. Next to the dam, the view is perfect in the morning, you get to see the stars perfectly ! I recommend it !

Peaceful spot with lovely outlook over the damn. We had site 11 and thankfully there was nobody in sites 9 & 10, because they are quite close together. We didn't use the shower or toilet facilities, so can't comment.

What an absolutely beautiful spot this is! Surrounded by mountains, the dam is a beautiful little gem. It was a very quiet, relaxing environment, we practically had the place to ourselves.. The directions were great and check in was quick and easy via text and a phone call from Ian, the owner. We could only spend one night this time but we would love to come back and enjoy a few relaxing days at Take a Break. Highly recommend.
