Unfair Treatment Ruined Our Stay.

I want to share both the positives and negatives of our stay.
The good: The property itself is beautiful, with stunning views and sunsets. We loved waking up to cows, birds, and even a friendly goat that always made us smile. The caretakers, Richie and Teresa, were wonderful—welcoming us warmly each day as we returned back from work which we were doing 14 days straight.
The not-so-good: The amenities were very poor. The unisex showers made me very uncomfortable, as If I was showering and a man came in had to wait for them to leave before I could finish. The shower curtains were not real shower curtain resulting in them smelling....
The BAD:
Around day 10, after a long workday, we were followed by Cait the owner’s wife in her vehicle. She approached speaking in a sarcastic, aggressive, and accusatory tone all while she continued chewing on food, she and threatened to kick us off the property. It was shocking and unprofessional. She claimed we were speeding, but we were always driving around 10km/h. We even checked with the caretakers the next morning, and they assured us we’d never been a problem with going too fast. If there was a concern, a respectful reminder would’ve been appropriate. Instead were treated like criminals while she tried to assert dominance, Finding out later that Cait is a police officer made it worse—she, of all people, should know how to address people calmly and respectfully, especially off duty. The whole experience left us upset and uncomfortable.

We spent 7nights here and LOVED it!! So central to many attractions, and the comings and goings of the aircraft on the properties' private air strip was fantastic to watch. Puppers had a ball. The caretakers Ritchie and Teresa were wonderful!!! Will definitely be back one day

Great location, not far from town. Spectacular sunsets, spacious sites definitely didn’t feel like a sardine and our own personal air show. Unfortunately didn’t meet Adam and Caitlyn as they were away but caretaker Rich was super friendly. Can’t wait to go back. We’ve found another hidden gem so close to home 😃❤️

We recently camped at Akubra Downs and were thoroughly impressed by the unique and serene environment. Setting up our tent was a breeze on the flat, grassy terrain, and the spacious sites provided a sense of privacy and seclusion that made our stay exceptionally relaxing.
One of the standout features was the property’s private airstrip. Watching private planes land and take off added an unexpected and exciting element to our camping experience, it’s not every day you get to see that!
The fire pit was a fantastic addition, perfect for evening gathering under the stars. The sunset was absolutely incredible—one of the most beautiful we’ve seen, lighting up the sky with rich, warm colours that made the whole experience even more magical.

We camped off grid here and loved the peace and quiet. And It was a central location to explore the area like Rocky and Yeppoon.
The caretakers were so friendly and helpful.

We loved our stay at Akubra Downs. Nice spot with not too many other campers. Caretakers were very friendly and helpful. Whilst it might not appeal to everyone we really enjoyed watching the planes come in and out, real highlight especially for the kids. We will be back!

Amazing spot on a large cattle farm. Large distance between other campers. Have to be prepared to walk some way to the shower and toilet if you are not self sufficient. Very welcoming host. We loved the stay (incl. our dog)

A grassy spot on a cattle paddock, offering a view of a little pointy mountain with a breathtaking sunset!
I woke up in the middle of the night startled, thinking someone was shaking the van, only to discover three mischievous poddy calves using it as a scratching post.

Super easy, we were the only ones there, very quiet and peaceful. Mozzies are a bit thick being right beside the creek but manageable with the right stuff.
Very curious and friendly cows, came right up for a pat!

We loved our stay at Akubra Downs, very relaxing and quiet beside the creek. Camp sites are well placed so that you are not up close to neighboring sites. Fire pit at each campsite was a bonus. The sunsets were magnificent.
Location is great as it is close enough to all of the local attractions, we enjoyed exploring the back roads, beautiful scenery so close by.

What a stunning place to stay! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from us. Cattle property with it’s own airstrip, Friendly hosts, Peace & quiet, each secluded area was mowed has a fire pit so you can sit back and watch the sunset. Easy to find and just a short drive to Rocky, Yeppoon & the caves. We highly recommend Akubra Downs!

We were thoroughly happy with our stay. Owner was super lovely and easy going. We had a beautiful view of the property while still being close to toilets and showers. Toilets and showers were kept very clean. We also got some laundry done with the $5 honesty system (which is amazing compared to laundromats). You can also purchase firewood there. We also had the friendliest cattle around us the whole time which we personally love! Site had nice mown down grass with good fire pits! You also feel safe and secure as the property is locked by a keypad gate system. Would highly recommend staying here. Thanks Adam and Caitlin 🤍

Adam made us feel at home immediately and even relocated a firepit for us. Peaceful paddock next to the airstrip and visited daily by friendly cattle. Clean toilets and hot showers. Nothing fancy but very relaxing and close to both Yeppoon and Rockhampton. The airstrip is private so not very busy, but we did get to see the firefighters practise their bucket fills and dumps with a helicopter using the dam next to the airstrip.
