Our historic and peaceful property is yours to explore! You can swim in the pond, take casual strolls around the property, enjoy the campfire at night, bike for miles on scenic country roads, and use this site as a jumping off point to discover all the beer, wine, cheese, concerts, festivals, hiking, kayaking, restaurants, shopping and more that the greater Capital Region has to offer! According to a few sources we've consulted, the Mohican people (Eastern Algonquian family of tribes - not to be confused with the Mohawk, a distinctly different tribe) were the indigenous occupants of the land where our farm is now located. Historians note that the name Mohican is from the indigenous word meaning "water that flows in two directions." Most Mohicans were driven into western NY and Canada when the Revolutionary War broke out. Local history indicates that the first white occupants to build here were the Hawley Family, in 1790. Parts of the farmhouse date to this era. Outbuildings were added through the decades and centuries, and the land was used as a dairy farm, among other ventures, by previous owners. We purchased the property in 2021 in hopes of providing more space, nature and outdoor living for our two little ones. We have two fields dedicated to Christmas trees, as well as apple, pear and cherry trees, and we've had successful garlic harvests to share with neighbors, family, friends, and at local farmers' markets. We've also begun brewing our own beer and cider. If you have any planting or farming advice to share, please don't hesitate! We offer a pond with "beach" (swimming ability varies depending on how high the weeds get - we don't treat the pond with chemicals, so whether you can swim is up to your comfort level), picnic table, firepit, nearby composting toilet, and views of our 47 acre land and barn buildings. Feel free to explore the land, take a dunk in the pond, and use our lovely space as your home base to explore everything our area has to offer. We're close to Albany, the Adirondacks, downtown Saratoga Springs, and SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center), but remote enough for peace and quiet. Come check out the area's great craft breweries, restaurants, hiking, lakes and rivers, and so much more. A short 10 minute walk will enable you to enjoy our local historic tavern and a community art space/studio if you want a night out! We'll usually be around to share a beer or wine with you at the end of the day, too.

Second time staying here. Highly recommended! Aileen and family are kind and helpful. The spot is beautiful. New compost toilet is a great addition. I highly recommend Birch Star Farm for camping!

While we were there for only a short time, the directions were easy, the location was private, and everything we needed was there. Quiet, peaceful, and serene. Wish we had more time to explore!

What a great spot…..so peaceful and relaxing! Had a wonderful night at Aileen’s place and so nice to be welcomed with the beautiful fresh flowers. Lovely to sit around the large fire pit. Enjoyed some fishing in the pond but sadly unable to catch anything. It was great to have use of the shack during our stay. Both Aileen and her husband were very welcoming and it was lovely to chat with them. If you are in the Saratoga area this spot is very convenient.

The location and spot are very special. The littel pond shack is a nice refuge if it rains. Aileen and her family are very nice too. We were lucky to have had the space on our own.

We really enjoyed our stay at Birch Star Farm. The spot was peaceful and pretty and the location is amazing. Aileen greeted us warmly and helped us get oriented. We c chose to walk down the road to the Charlton Tavern for dinner (terrific!) and then spent a quiet, peaceful night at the pond spot. A very lovely stop on our cross-country road trip.

My husband and I loved camping on Aileen's land. We met Ed when we pulled up and he couldn't have been nicer while he gave us the run down of the farm. We brought our dog who had enough room to explore. (There is also a dog park close by.) The grounds were beautiful. Tent camping at this location was a breeze.

Aileen's place was adorable. Aileen and her husband were so friendly and accommodating. We walked to the local Tavern and had a bite to eat, so cute and food was good. We will definitely be back.

Aileen was super helpful and responsive and the property was gorgeous. We could hear so many songbirds during the day and bullfrogs at night. The fireflies along the walking trail were spectacular after dark! The pond shack felt very private and secluded in nature.

This was our second time at Birch Star Farm. We like this spot on a little farm in between Albany and Saratoga. This year they’ve added a compost toilet which is a nice addition! The host Aileen is extremely good at communicating and offered many times to help us out with various questions.

We had such a nice stay at Birch Star Farm. It felt very private but was close to lots of things to do, shopping, restaurants etc. Aileen was an outstanding host, we felt very welcome and cared for but also had all the privacy we needed. My daughter especially loved her 2 friendly cats. The site was clean and beautiful, and the composting toilet was very nice to have. The pond was beautiful and had a nice little sandy beach for my daughter to wade in and look for fish. There were plants filling the rest of the pond, so real swimming wasn’t really possible, but Aileen mentioned they have plans to clean it out in the future. I appreciate the fact that they don’t put chemicals in the pond but leave it natural. The sunsets and fireflies were amazing at night, as was the big campfire we had! Why so many things to do in the area, we definitely plan to come back and enjoy this great site as our home base.

On arrival, we were greeted by Aileen who was very nice explaining where we could park and explore the grounds of the farm. We parked our travel trailer with a nice view of the small pond. During our two night stay we saw deer, wild Turkey, geese, and a mystery creature swimming around the pond We would definitely stay here again if our travels brought us through the area.

We stayed here for a concert at SPAC and was about 25 minutes from venue, very nice spot and they even helped cover our tents when it started raining when we were away! Recommend for your next trip!

Beautiful spot. Kind host who was super responsive. Fun part of New York. I would definitely recommend. Will be even better when their compost toilet is complete. Pond wasn't good for swimming probably due to late summer weed growth. Pond shack was a nice addition given the rainy forecast. Nice dry place to hang out, though indeed rustic and not 100% screened so just keep that in mind. Fellow campers were all friendly and respectful. Thanks Aileen and family for hosting us!

Amazing spot, great hosts and the friendliest cat you'll ever meet (Patches). Other campers were great and there's enough space for several groups to all have some distance/privacy. We'd definitely come back here again!

This is my second time staying at this property and I cannot wait to go back for my third. The campsite is located on a beautiful farm about 25 minutes from Schenectady. Aileen was very helpful and kind as well. Cannot wait to be back soon.
