Elm Grove Sanctuary Campsite
Overall the property is beautiful and we had a great time. The thing is when your paying that much you expect you will have your own private area. We were under the impression that it was 10 camp-sites but when we rocked up there 80 people or more camping on the grass area all quished in. We had to find our own spot no designated areas which made it hard for privacy reasons and to stay with our group.
We understand that a camp toilet isn't glorious but at least put some saw dust there so it does smell. Or make it so you can go in the bush but as there was no privacy you couldn't do that.

We were initially disappointed upon arrival to find that there were a lot more than 10 groups camping (as advertised). Especially since the number one feature I seek out is privacy/a limited number of sites. That being said, we were lucky to still snag a semi private spot near the river and this turned out to be one of my favourite Hipcamp experiences and probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed in Australia. All of the green combined with the fresh flowing river reminded me of North America. The river was perfect for swimming and we often had the swimming area to ourselves. Be advised that the toilet facilities are pretty rough, so if you’re someone that needs a clean working toilet I suggest you bring your own. All this said, I highly recommend Elm Grove sanctuary and I hope to return soon.

Men’s toilet rusted out, needs replacing ASAP as it’s unsafe, women’s not much better. Number of quests sites exceeded advertised 10 No

Beautiful location. Water was crystal clear. We spotted trout and Murray crayfish - even though lots of people were swimming. The Hipcampers seemed to all be self contained, however the people camped on the grassed area (some reviewers call them locals) were washing themselves and their clothes and possibly relieving themselves upstream at the swimming hole (2 meters away from us) while my son and I were in the water - so gross for us and bad for the environment.

The area is as I remember. Beautiful elm trees providing shade. Nice swimming hole. Easy to find. Toilets are as per description “basic but functional” largely unspoilt and very relaxing. Perfect for that electronic detox. Will revisit again soon

Overall we had an enjoyable experience. Site was idyllic, Patrick was a gracious host, we had fun.
But, from our current experience, the PerPerson expense for zero facilities was way over the mark. The same experience is available in the broad vicinity for zero dollars, whereas the caravan park in town charge 20% less for a riverside site with toilet, showers, electricity town water.
So the value for money case is difficult to make.
I probably wont go back, but, good luck to them.

We were very lucky to have the space to ourselves for the weekend.

It was my first time camping and I was pretty nervous going into it but this site was incredible. Having the fresh water river to bathe in made such a difference and we really made good use of the field for games and activities.
Patrick was also super helpful, lending us a fire pit and bringing us firewood.

Nice grassy flat campground located on Goobarragandra river. Epic views over the mountains and the valley. Some great facilities like outdoor oven and toilets. Friendly local dogs come for a pat and a treat. Great couple of days spent in magnificent country.

Beautiful spot and lovely place to go for a little tech-free detox.
I wish it was a little more obvious this was a catholic village though as people like me with major religious trauma don't deal too well with that. It made me afraid to talk with the hosts and I felt quite uncomfortable in the space.
Aside from that it was a lovely spot and my dog also really enjoyed his time there.

One of the most magical locations, especially at this time of year. Felicity came down and introduced herself, and was very welcoming. The only downside was upon arrival the precious campers had left a lot of rubbish in and around the fire.

Beautiful location close to the river. Plenty of space to spread out & unwind. Caught a rainbow trout & black fish on our first night! Our dog made plenty of furry friends & enjoyed being off leash to explore & swim. Stayed 2 nights but wish it was longer.

Location is spectacular, a little hidden gem.
After talking to some friends the price is hexy for what you get compared to other locations.

This is a beautiful spot –but we won’t be going back. There is a lack of signage setting out what the management expects and some quirky rules –communicated verbally. There appears to be very little maintenance and the ‘alleged’ composting toilets are a case in point. The male toilet ‘tin can’ has so rusted out its failed structurally. It’s impossible to use and potentially dangerous but remains accessible if you want to try. The female toilet is well on its way to the same end. Neither were supplied with sawdust to assist with the composting process. We only stayed for 2 of the 3 nights we booked.

Elm Grove Sanctuary Campsite
Thoroughly enjoyed camping at Elm Grove. It was exactly as described. It is a gorgeous spot. The camp kitchen/shelter and toilets are basic yet functional. And we enjoyed our early morning and nightly campfire.
Patrick, our host, was welcoming and thoughtful. Thank you Patrick :-) We'd certainly stay again.

What an amazing place to camp! Patrick and Flick were just the most hospitable of hosts with some of the best customer service skills I've come across. When my very loud companions arrived, they announced "we're loud and we don't apologise for it!" Patrick didn't bat an eyelid, showing them to a far nore secluded area where we could let our hair down.
The camp itself was spacious and well maintained, with easy access to the river (which was cold!). There is a drop toilet which was also well looked after.
About the only negative I could report was a few of the locals weren't very friendly, but this is absolutely no reflection on our hosts, who more than made up for the occasional rudeness.
I would absolutely recommend this Hipcamp.

We had such a wonderful time on this beautiful property. Lots of room to spread out with our dogs and friends. The running river was an absolute beauty to swim in with little rapids to float down on a blow up tube.
We sat back and enjoyed a fire, drinks and bbq at the end of the day while watching the sky filled with stars. The running water falls from the river trickled constantly down making it a calm environment
Patrick came down and introduced himself and made sure everyone was ok.
I will definitely be returning to this magical place.
