Conveniently located between Launceston and Devonport, Buckbill Banks Camping offers a beautiful, level camping area overlooking Quamby Brook Creek.
The 35-acre property offers views of Quamby Bluff, and various options to explore and relax. Find yourself a nice quiet spot, where you can enjoy peace and quiet. Although we take several bookings at once, you are guaranteed a secluded nook, there is plenty of space.
There is a wood fired hot tub beside the creek, which all campers have access to. Imagine star gazing from the hot tub of an evening, or enjoying a morning soak whilst keeping your eyes peeled for the resident platypus in their natural habitat! Firewood is provided for the hot tub, you may buy wood on site for your individual campfires. The hot Tub is not for wild parties, but to relax and view the native wild life, quietly watch the platypus in their natural environment.
Please note, we accept one camper trailer/caravan per booking. If you are traveling in a group with multiple caravans, you will need to book multiple sites - but will still be able to camp close together although we dont allow big noisy, disruptive groups anymore! The property has good access for all types of vehicles.

The camping area is a large open field with a short walk to the river access, and warm springs. It's great for swimming for small children to paddle in, deeper for swimming and kayaking.
We are located 20 minutes from Deloraine and Latrobe and not even an hr away from Launceston.
We are a great base to head off during the day and explore what is on offering our wonderful part of the world. rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, fishing, there are lots of little towns around with gorgeous shops to visit, such as the Meander valley, Cradle Mountain, the Great Lakes and so, much more.

It's a little like McDonald's Farm, an array of birds and animals.
There's an orchard, hothouse and a Raspberry patch which may be my favourite spot when they're fruiting.
It really is an amazing lifestyle, peaceful, relaxing and rewarding.

Absolutely loved our stay. The wood-fired hot tub was next level and made the whole experience — nothing better after a day out. Bert is an absolute legend: welcoming, helpful, and always up for a good chat without being intrusive. The scenery is stunning, the place is spotless, and everything is clearly well cared for. Peaceful, well maintained, and exactly what a great camp stay should be. We’ll be back for sure.

This was one of our favorite Hipcamps ever! The hot tubs on the riverbank were absolutely magical - even in Tasmania’s cold weather, they gave us the perfect excuse to sit outside completely surrounded by nature and trees. We were lucky enough to spot platypuses in the stream right next to the tubs, which was a real highlight. We spent Christmas Day here and had an extra special experience driving half an hour into the hills for a white Christmas - such a rare treat! The location is also perfect for exploring Liffey Falls (a must-see - beautiful rainforest and waterfalls, only 30 minutes away). Our host Bert was wonderful - so friendly, full of great stories, and a wealth of knowledge about Tasmania and the area. He’s clearly worked hard on this property, from clearing the creek (perfect for a cold plunge before the hot tub!) to maintaining the beautiful soft grass where we could walk barefoot without a prickle in sight. We loved it so much we extended our stay by 2 nights and we’re already booked to return in a month before we leave Tasmania. Highly recommend!

Traills Corner was nice to camp at but not well maintained.
Grandkids had a great time in the Mersey River with paddle boards and small boat going over the small rapids. Jumping off the pole and swimming.
Everyone was disappointed that the spa bath was dirty and couldn't be used.
Grass was long which wasn't good with the damp conditions of the weekend.
Eels were caught, fish were seen in the river.
The warm spring pool in town was also disappointing as has not been maintained, very overgrown with weed.
Had to use 4x4 to get out as the overnight rain had made the road slippery up the slight hill.
Would I go again?
Yes but would hope that the area is in better condition. Grass cut, bath clean.
Never saw Mandy but did have a chat with her hubby/partner who was nice to talk to.
We did call at the house a couple of times but no one there.

Lovely spot by the river, kids all loved being able to swim and paddle board, spent hours in the river. Great open spot.
Area could be a bit better maintained, grass a bit too long, fire pot areas overgrown, few too many thistles. Warm spring bath not usable which was a shame. Lots of potential with a bit of TLC.

This was the perfect end to my Tasmania trip, the private hot tub was so relaxing, & the addition of native essential oils from Bert the owner was amazing. Smelt delicious & no mosquito's!
Lots of birdlife, & as it got dark the fairy lights came on & I was visited by wallabies, pottoroos & even a tiny tree frog!
Highly highly recommend, will definitely be back next visit.

Lovely, cute and enchanting spot to stay. You can sit in the bath tub late at night and listen to all the bizarre wild life sounds and giggle. The host was very friendly and helpful, went to alot of effort to set up my hot tub. I will book here again. 😁

Duckbill Banks is set on a generous, flat, grassy meadow next to the creek. Sites are well separated and sheltered by trees. Bert set us up with a large shared wood fired hot tub with our one fellow guest on the first night after we'd all decided we were happy for a chat and with a smaller tub next to our site on the second night. It's a lovely way to spend the evening and watch the stars.
We'd highly recommend Duckbill Banks as a lovely place to camp. Unfortunately the platypus' didn't make an appearance while we were there.

What an awesome spot !!! Took the grandkids this time they literally spent 6.5 hours in the river playing in kayaks doughnuts and water fun.
