The Scrub Campsite located in remnant vegetation (14 minutes from Victor Harbor ) is a rustic self check in campsite as the owners do not reside near the campsite. Campers choose their site in the designated camp spots. Sites are not allocated unless by prior arrangement. Persons under 18, youth groups, school groups or scout groups etc. are not permitted to book at the campsite. A communal camp kitchen, water tanks and compost toilet is available for campers use. Fire pits are located at each site. Campers will be advised of fire bans. Wood can be purchased from the self service white ibc container for $15 for 20kgs. Please adhere to the camp rules which are posted at each campsite. The campsite is located on the Heysen Trail and close to many Lower Fleurieu Peninsula beaches and attractions. The popular Belicious Cafe is a 45 minute walk. Whole campsite bookings can be made by contacting the owners. We ask that campers respect all other campers, the land that they are camping on and follow the campers motto - Leave nothing but your footprints. Once booked you will receive a text outlining the camp policies and instructions.

We live in a beautiful hidden valley on 30 acres, We're joined by friendly dogs, horses, alpacas, rabbits, guinea pigs, 2 lovely Camels, 2 cheeky pigs, Galloway cows and chooks, along with the resident wildlife including many birds, kangaroos, koalas, shy owls, and even an echidna! All this, plus beautiful views from atop our hills, right to the lake, and the delightful winter creek complete with frogs. We are close to the McLaren Vale wine region as well as wineries throughout the Hills and 35 minutes to the coast of Victor Harbor. The Greenman Inn is 5 minutes down the road and has wonderful food from Wed to Sun if you do not feel the urge to cook with wood fires for the cold nights or a gorgeous outdoor area for the warmer months. At present, we offer two areas for camping. Topspot which has lovely views and is quite secluded amongst the tree tops. This site is suitable for tents and camper trailers (need reasonable backing skills and 4WD) The Laneway which is close to the babbling creek is suitable for those with a small caravan, or motorhome, 2WD etc, along with tent campers. (but would struggle with large caravans/motorhomes - please check with hosts) (The Lookout/Highview has spectacular views Please note this site is currently closed due to stock rotation.) If you have any doubts about which to book, please ask. AUTUMN/WINTER MONTHS: if we receive considerable rain the trek up to the hill sites could become slippery and not accessible as it is a farm paddock, therefore unfortunately your booking may need to be cancelled. NOTE: On our farm there is limited phone coverage in the valley (The Laneway). Pets are welcome, however, please ensure they are kept under control (unless discussed with the host) at all times. Please note: This is an active small farm, therefore work may need be continued throughout your stay possibly necessitating the use of machinery and tending to our livestock. If you wish to see some of the animals up close, please let us know and we will try to accommodate. Welcome to your dream destination!! We have two different locations available in Kangaroo Island with some options of sites in each. FIRST LOCATION: EMU BAY HIDEAWAY-30 hectares of peace, mainly vegetated with Kangaroo Island Narrow-leaved Mallee (Eucalyptus cneorifolia, a nationally-protected ecological community). Kangaroos and wallabies are in abundance. It has a wonderful feeling of remoteness and seclusion yet is so close to iconic Emu Bay. Those with 4WD may choose sites overlooking Shoal Bay towards Kingscote. Alternatively, you may set up camp anywhere on the property. There is even one under-cover position with a concrete floor for those concerned about the weather. There are no amenities so guests need to be 100% self-sufficient (including BYO drinking water and toilet) and leave no trace. It is a wild block and only five minutes from the iconic Emu Bay, where the white sandy beach runs for 4kms, most of which is backed by 10 to 20-meter-high dunes. It is one of the best beaches on the island with crystal-clear water. SECOND LOCATION: Farm Stay about 15 km from Emu Bay and 20km from the main town of Kingscote. This is an operating small sheep farm of over 100ha. For security reasons the exact location is not advertised, but will be disclosed upon arrival on Kangaroo Island. There are several beautiful sites. This location is fairly central to most KI visitor attractions. It is a secure place to set up camp and have peace of mind that your belongings will be safe while you are away from the site. The host takes care to situate sites to give campers the feeling of exclusiveness. NOTES; Check with me before lighting a campfire - this depends on the season and risk. This is a campsite for those who want the best of both worlds, the serenity of the Australian Bush, but close to all the modern conveniences and holiday activities. Surrounded by the Hindmarsh Valley National Park and a working sheep farm, you’ll be sharing this campsite with the local kangaroos, and if you’re lucky, an echidna or two. There’s a creek running through, and vibrant bird life. Nearby is a beautiful bush-walk through the Mount Billy Conservation Park. Situated half way between Myponga and Victor Harbor, only 15 minutes to either, there are many activities available. Kayaking on the Myponga reservoir, or surfing, swimming and sun bathing at either Horseshoe Bay or Waitpinga. Urimbirra wildlife park is less than 10 minutes away, and around the corner is the Softfoot Alpaca Farm, with the on-site Swagman Restaurant. Also in Hindmarsh Valley is the lovely restaurant Lost Phoenix Farm. Over your stay, you will likely encounter our two dogs, Lola and Sherlock, who very much enjoy meeting our guests. Lola is particularly fond of children and loves to play fetch with them, whilst Sherlock will try charm you out of your sausages. Despite what he says, he is well fed at home. They are both good at giving high fives. If you would prefer not to see the dogs, please just let us know and we will keep them under strict supervision. An RV dump point is located on Adelaide Road, Victor Harbor, within the tourist information bay, 200m south of Waterport Road, approximately 10 minutes from the site.

We loved having a van at Steven’s place. Flat, quiet and beautiful trees surrounding. It was a bit tight getting in and out but enough room to manoeuvre once on the flat. Easy walk to town, and short drive to plenty of attractions in the area. Steven was a great help with local knowledge and tips on places to visit. Would recommend.

Had an excellent time at this spot, tucked away on a nicely grassed area. Steve was more than welcoming. There was a zipline and swings for the kids to play and there are also some resident koala’s you can spot in the trees. We would definitely stay again if we head to South Australia again!

Lovely and scenic, would recommend fly nets if you’re staying during the daytime but they seemed to only turn up while the sun was out so didn’t bother us too much for our overnight stay.

1 night at Alma's Hem Amphitheatre Retreat

The camp site was peaceful. There is only 3 sites but I was the only person there. Kylie uses the site for live music gigs once or twice a year and people can hire the place for weddings. It's picturesque and the dogs, Juno and Audrey are gorgeous. I got my doggy fix . Kylie came down for a chat while I was at the camp kitchen. She's a lovely host. I would recommend the site to anyone who likes a quiet and scenic camp. Oh, the toilets were fancy and fabulous.

Where to go

Fleurieu Peninsula

Road-trippers driving from Adelaide to Cape Jervis can take in the highlights of the Fleurieu Peninsula along the way. Swing by the Willunga Farmers Market, ride a horse-drawn tram from Victor Harbor to see the penguin colonies of Granite Island, or hop aboard the famous Cockle Train at nearby Goolwa.

Kangaroo Island

Car ferries set sail from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island—about a 45-minute journey—from where you can explore the island’s sandy beaches and wildlife-filled bushlands. Stop at Seal Bay to admire the sea lion colony, go sandboarding at the Little Sahara sand dunes, then venture off-road in the Flinders Chase National Park, home to natural wonders like Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch.

McLaren Vale

The vine-clad foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges and the Adelaide Hills make up the McLaren Vale wine region, home to some of South Australia’s oldest and most prestigious wineries.
