This was our second stay and this time we had the place to ourselves. It is a great place to stay just on the outskirts of St George, and Cristy was very welcoming. We will definitely be back.

We booked one of the powered riverfront sites but moved to the unpowered riverfront area as it was quieter and you could be closer to the water. Shower and toilet facilities are good and not too far a walk. Overall location is the perfect amount of just out of town, only 10 mins from the shops if you need to restock anything.

The grounds are very well kept, the amenities exceptionally clean, the service very friendly and welcoming.
I needed firewood and what was provided burned beautifully and easily: not just wood thrown in a bag.
The sites themselves were ample and large.

A fantastic location. We had Riverside powered site 9. Beautiful tranquil Aussie bush setting. The owners are working hard to improve this massive setting. The bathrooms consist of 2 x toilet and shower rooms - not massive but enough. Clean and functional. The Balonne River is quite something: a fellow camper caught a sizeable yellow bellow from the bank with a rod. Bird life including Spoinbilled Egrette and Pelican are regular at this location. Just superb. Loved it.

Hey, it’s a bush setting, the site I was on is compacted gravel. It’s dusty. There is a central green a short distance away from the river with no power if you are looking for grass.

Adam and Christy take a lot of pride in providing a spacious, beautiful and well maintained space. Their property backs onto the river and a very short drive to town. I would highly recommend this stay.

Fantastic spot with great proximity to the town centre. The sites are well maintained and spacious and Adam has created and Christy have created a unique rustic camp kitchen/man cave that you can spend hours in looking at old memorabilia.
An added bonus was Russell, the very inquisitive and highly entertaining emu.

Really enjoyed the camp. Lovely green grass to set up on. Plenty of space and surrounding camp fixtures were interesting. Great nightly fire in happy hour area, even with a TV. Close to town. Cristy was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again when in the area.

Warumbul, another gem right beside the Balonne River. Only a few minutes out of St George, super easy and well communicated directions from our wonderful host Cristy.
The camping areas are great and level, with the surrounding grounds sprinkled with quirky sculptures made from all kinds of materials, very rustic!
Feeding Russell the emu was a highlight, though we quickly learned from Cristy to keep our distance from the rather grumpy old ram!
Cristy lit the communal campfire that evening, a lovely chance to chat with fellow travelers!
Would definitely so here again!

We stayed in our 6m off-road caravan on the river unpowered site. Was amazing!! We were only on a stop overnight on our trip but honestly would have stayed longer if we had realised how nice it was! Right on the water, private, super quiet and super relaxing!! Highly recommend. Toilets were clean and tidy, host was awesome, nice and quick check in, perfect.

With kids
This was an amazing camp! Our families really enjoyed our stay here. The hosts (Adam and Cristy) are such beautiful people. They will spend the time getting to know you and taking the kids out to play with the farm animals. Our kids were able to bottle feed a little lamb and feed the cheeky emu. The sites are huge and nice and grassy. The river view is amazing! I highly recommend this camp. Thank you Adam and Cristy for a great stay!

Where to go
Beardmore Dam & Lake Kajarabie
The Beardmore Dam and Lake Kajarabie, a short distance north of St George, is a popular fishing, boating, and water skiing spot. Although camping isn’t allowed beside the lake, it’s easy to reach from St George along the Carnarvon Highway, so can be visited on day or short trips when camping in the town.
Lightning Ridge
About 2.5 hours’ drive south of St George and over the border in NSW, Lightning Ridge is an opal-mining town that attracts many prospectors who fossick for the gems, especially rare black opals. There are a few caravan parks around Lightning Ridge with powered and unpowered sites, swimming pools, and self-contained cabins. The Artesian Bore Baths here are sourced from the mountains.
Culgoa Floodplain National Park
Southwest of St George, the remote Culgoa Floodplain National Park is only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicle in dry weather, but is an adventurous side trip for self-sufficient campers. Collect a map with camping areas and access tracks from the ranger’s office on arrival. Bush camping is permitted at the Byra Lagoon and Redbank Hut bush camping areas. The park is a treat for keen bird watchers, with some 150 species inhabiting the region.
When to go
Flower lovers should visit St George in September or October to check out the beautiful bauhinia flowers that bloom in spring. This part of Southern Queensland is on the edge of the outback and experiences hot summers, with temperatures reaching an average high of 36°C. It’s not unusual for summer floods to cut off access to the town or surrounding areas, especially when the Balonne River rises. Visit outside of the summer months for the most comfortable camping experience.
