We have a passion for the environment, agriculture and reducing the amount of waste created by humans, we try to reuse and repurposing as much of our own and others waste as possible. If you love campfires, birdwatching, freshwater creeks, fishing, and solitude, come and share the quietness of our 300 acre offgrid homestead and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Tropical North Queensland surrounded by world heritage rainforest, hills, creeks, the Mulgrave River, and all the flora and fauna that abound here. Our shallow freshwater creeks are refreshing to explore and, for deep water swimming and kayaking, it's only a five minute drive to Babinda Crossing. Hikers can explore our headlands or venture further to dedicated hiking trails including scaling the 922 metre high Walsh's Pyramid that's only a ten minute drive away. Birdwatchers are spoiled for choice day and night, beautiful insects are in abundance, small native marsupials and reptiles are regularly seen, and the waterways are home to a variety of tropical fish as well as the occasional crocodile in the main river. We’re a great base location for exploring the area as we’re only 15 minutes to the town of Gordonvale and less than an hour to Cairns International Airport, the Great Barrier Reef and the Atherton Tablelands. Boaties can take the ten minute drive to Deeral Boat Ramp to launch their vessel and head down the Mulgrave River to Russel Heads and out to the Great Barrier Reef and islands.

We stayed at site 4: The Views. Absolutely perfect with 2 little kids. They loved the horses being so close and it was an easy and relaxing sight for us. Sheree is so welcoming and gave us some great places to explore the area! I’m still amazed this is in her backyard!

Great site - especially for children! Our preschool aged children enjoyed feeding the chickens and spotting for wildlife at night (though they were too loud to see much!) I was incredibly impressed that there were no mosquitos!!! Shame we only had one night - but it was worth it and the area surrounding is beautiful - stunning waterfalls, and they’re quiet with no other visitors first thing in the morning!

10 nights at Aloomba Homestead (Tropical Qld)

To be honest nothing stood out at 'Aloomba Homestead' Hipcamp, because it was simply amazingly magical all 'round, our type of Hipcamp. Mother Nature at her best, the birdlife was incredible, a very peaceful and calming location on the Mulgrave River within close proximity to Deeral boat ramp, where we launched our tinny and also topped up with water for our van. As for the hosts Margie & Richard, what a terrific down to earth couple, our kinda people, very genuine and open to a good old chin-wag. We hope they travel down our way to Cape Bridgewater in Victoria one day, so we can return their kindness. Top spot for our 10 day stay. 👌

This place was incredible! Sheree and Jacko the dog were so friendly, as were the little turtles that came to say hi to us! We initially booked Site 3 - The Waterfall but Sheree was so kind and messaged to say the water was low due to the lack of rain recently and gave us the option to move sites. We moved to Site 1 - The Dam…. And WOW! It was stunning! My kids loved playing in the water and it was so tranquil. We got some firewood and sat out admiring the sky which was incredible. We really wish we could’ve stayed longer here. Massively recommend this beautiful place and wouldn’t hesitate to return one day!

The areas are well looked after, and the visits from the farm animals every now and again was pleasant too. Will be visiting again in the future to witness the waterfall on site 3, if the spot isn’t already taken

A wonderful camp spot, perfect for those who enjoy lowkey camping or those with kids! A shower and toilet felt like a luxury. Camp fire under the stars with so many beautiful flowers scattered around the gardens. The temperature at this time of year was incredible too, just enough for long sleeve pajamas and sitting by the fire.

Where to go

Cassowary Coast

Mission Beach lies along Queensland’s Cassowary Coast, where white-sand beaches hug the shores and boat cruises set sail for the Great Barrier Reef islands. Hop between sleepy beach towns, go fishing along the Tully River, or visit beauty spots such as the Babinda Boulders. For the ultimate adventure, cruise out to Hinchinbrook Island to trek the rugged Thorsborne Trail, kayak between secluded coves, and camp out at remote bush campgrounds.

Wet Tropics

Hemmed in by lush bands of rainforest, Mission Beach is a strategic basecamp from which to explore the UNESCO-listed Wet Tropics. Head north to Wooroonooran National Park to hike or mountain bike through the Goldsborough Valley, or trek to the top of Queensland’s highest peak. To the west, enjoy riverside camping, rafting, and kayaking in the Tully Gorge National Park, or continue south to Girringun National Park and hike to waterfalls and backcountry campsites.

Atherton Tablelands

The wild landscapes of the Atherton Tablelands stretch north of the Tully Gorge all the way to Kuranda. Hike along rainforest trails, swim beneath natural waterfalls, or go mountain biking along rugged forest trails. Campers will find plenty of options around the towns of Atherton, Malanda, and Ravenshoe.

When to go

Beach days can be enjoyed year-round at Mission Beach, but take care from October through June—this is stinger season, so avoid swimming outside of the designated areas where stinger nets are in place. If you can, time your visit to enjoy the popular Mission Beach markets, held on the first and third Sundays of each month.

Know before you go

Mission Beach can be tricky to reach by public transport, and having your own transport is useful for exploring the coast and surrounding national parks.

There is a large selection of shops, cafés, and restaurants at Mission Beach, so stock up on supplies before heading out into the tablelands.
Fire bans are common in Queensland during summer and dry periods, so be sure to check local recommendations before starting a fire and always use designated fire pits.
