Dam Crazy Camping

19 sites · RVs, Tents624 acres · Golden Fleece, QLD
Dam Crazy? You would have to be to bypass over 620 acres of scenic bushland off the beaten track for your next camping getaway or stopover on your way on the Bruce Highway. An abundance of birdlife with over 135 different species found so far including a Powerful Owl. A magnificent 400 megalitre dam that now forms part of the natural landscape of this unique property. A hidden gem in the Wide Bay/Fraser Coast area of Queensland where relaxation, peace and privacy are unavoidable as are the sunsets and shooting stars in the clear skies above. We are 20 minutes from the quaint Childers Township and 50 minutes from Bundaberg. The property is totally private and caravans cannot been seen from the road, the owners live on the property and only booked guests are to enter the property offering security and peace of mind. Whether you want to bird watch, kayak, fish (catch and release only), hike or ride one of the many trails or sit, relax and read your favourite book, we promise a warm welcome; from the wildlife and the proprietors Miranda, Brendon and Esa the dog. Dam Crazy is also pet friendly, dogs must be cleaned up after and may be walked off leash on the walking trails (please be mindful of other campers, farm animals and wildlife), they may also swim in the dam but must be contained or kept on leash in the campsite areas. The dam is very deep and could have snags washed down in floods, so we suggest children wear life jackets, and MUST be supervised by adults at all times around the water. Numbers are limited to ensure you have plenty of space and privacy! Campers must take all waste with them. Very good cellphone reception

We are approximately 50 minutes south of Maryborough and 2.5hrs North from Brisbane. You can reach us in about 15 mins off the M1 at Gunalda and go west through Miva. Alternatively from Tiaro/Gympie you can turn off onto the Woolooga/Bauple road and we are 5 mins off into Glen Echo. We offer both semi private campsites, with/without amenities (found under extras). Most of our locations only have a couple of other campsites with plenty of space and privacy for your standalone rig. We do have front fold campers available for hire, fully fitted for your stay just bring your linen, clothes and food - you will need to contact us for availability. We are also happy to cater to events from booking out one of our locations for complete privacy to offering you a fully catered farm wedding experience. Please email us from our website www.rosehillfarmstay.com.au to request camper hire or event information. "Rosehill" is such a hidden gem amongst the bustle of modern life. We are a "fully standalone powered" farm. We use solar energy to pump water to feed stock and irrigate paddocks. We cell graze and carry approximately 60 head of breeders on our improved pastures all year round. We are also the home of RottyHill rottweilers where we have successfully bred Natural-born bobtail and tailed dogs for over 18yrs. A bit of history We are the second owners of this property after it was originally settled when the Australian Government introduced the area to soldier settlement blocks back in the late 1800's. "Rosehill" was one of Queensland's original Dairy Farms. David's Dad came from farming stock and moved his new wife to the farm where they had 5 children who all helped out and learnt the trade of dairying and bee keeping. The family attended local schools and were involved in the local community with sports and activities while they were at the farm. In the 1970's dairying became increasingly difficult with the deregulation of the industry and the import of cheap milk. "Rosehill" diversified back into the family business of beef cattle and migratory bee keeping and had some 800 hives producing and extracting honey until David's parents retired in 2006. David returned home and bought the family farm in 2006. He semi-retired to grow beef cattle and breed natural-born bobtailed Rottweiler's. The farm is completely surrounded by bush and the closest neighbours are about 2km away. Our popular locations: Munna creek runs through "Rosehill" and provides some beautiful waterholes for swimming and fishing. While King Dam has numerous lakeside spots for plenty of rest and relaxation while spotting our local birdlife ranging from swans to broglas and the occasional Jabberoo. Rosehill Gumtrees camp is a fantastic spot to bring your horses or electric bikes with its central location on the National Trail for riding out for the day or a couple of hours exploring Section 5 with Maps 6/7. https://nationaltrail.com.au/wp-content/uploads/NT.Chart_.Sect5_.png There are fish, eels and some crustaceans to be had in the lake and you can borrow the canoe or kayaks to explore the lake. With Barra, Dew and catfish in the creek. Out and About: Just 5 mins down the road is one of Australias most historical bridges “The Dickabram” built in 1885/6 over the Mary River, check it out and then continue on for a counter lunch at “The Gundy Pub”. Head off in the other direction and explore the Kilkivan Shire museum, the Mount Clara Smelter built in 1873 (left over from the gold rush days) or follow some of the old stock routes and horse trails. Heading north your just 20mins to Tiaro or continue on to explore the home of Mary Poppins in Maryborough in about 50mins. David and Kim request you respect your neighbouring camper's privacy and right to enjoy their stay too. David and Kim also request you respect our back to nature, simple farming solutions and leave a zero footprint when you stay with us.
