Welcome to our river retreat. Ideal for those seeking privacy, peace and solitude away from the socials and technology. Kingfisher's Hut sits on 80 acres of our 240 acre property, on a high bank overlooking the Macdonald River as it makes it way towards the confluence with the Namoi River. Ideally suited for a couple (children and fur babies also welcome) or small groups, and those who are new to a nature escape holiday. A small solar system provides lighting (but not recharging of devices). Our insulated cabin provides a comfortable double bed (bring your own linen and pillows) and pot belly stove for the colder months. Our bush kitchen provides your basic needs with a BBQ, 12 volt fridge, and fully equipped camp kitchen. Our open fire is set up for cooking or for just sitting, relaxing and staring into the flames. Our bush bathroom provides a toilet and wood fired hot shower. Or you might chose to relax in a hot bath overlooking the river.
We welcome nature lovers and offer activities such as bush walking, bird watching, native wildlife, swimming, picnicking, kayaking (double kayak provided), catch and release fishing (seasonal and with current Fishing Licence), and big open night skies for astronomy enthusiasts. We are a small farming enterprise and currently establishing aquaculture (yabby) ponds and can offer an introductory tour to those who are interested.
The hut sleeps two (double bed) but there is plenty of room for those who wish to bring a camper trailer or van or pitch a tent. As a working property, you may need to navigate around the odd cow pat! We have recently installed an old roof top ten on legs which can sleep two (double bed size).
We do ask that you carefully read our rules (see link) to avoid any conflict with neighbouring properties or our attempts at retaining a relatively undisturbed, healthy river environment and not negatively impact our surrounding community.
We will always have a meet and greet with our guests at some point during your stay, but promise we won't intrude upon your privacy.

Escape to The Farm Shed — a near-new, air-conditioned two-bedroom guest house tucked into an established country garden on our working farm, just minutes from Tamworth, Australia's Country Music Capital.
Set apart from our 100-year-old homestead with its own private entrance and parking, the Farm Shed enjoys a peaceful north-easterly aspect and lovely garden views. The main bedroom has a king bed and large built-in wardrobe; the second has two single beds. The fully self-contained kitchen is well appointed with an electric stove, gas cooktop, large fridge, microwave, and coffee machine. Wi-Fi and a smart TV are included.
We offer a complimentary breakfast of bread, preserves, fruit, cereals, tea, and coffee — please let us know after booking if you'd like this, as we prepare it in advance.
You're only a six-minute drive from AELEC and TREC, so you couldn't be closer to the action. Back at the farm, guests are welcome to walk the property and enjoy our pool (shared respectfully with the main house in consultation with the owners). Our four working dogs and two house dogs are all very friendly and love to say hello.
This is a working farm — please be mindful of cattle and horses when exploring. We have unfenced dams and troughs, so children must be supervised at all times.
HORSES: Safe post-and-rail paddocks may be available for horse owners at an additional cost and at the owner's risk. Contact Kirstie directly to arrange.
The guest laundry is shared with the homestead but has separate access from the back verandah — just a short walk from the Farm Shed.

We had a lovely stay at Kingfisher. The facilities were such a convenience and made a one night stay so simple in terms of packing less gear. Even with low river height, the kids loved exploring and kayaking.

Amazing spot just far enough outside Tamworth. This is an absolute gem with new bathrooms with showers. Pool for cooling down and lots of space. We slept very soundly as it is peaceful here in the evenings. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great spot within an easy drive to Tamworth. Great hosts who have put so much effort into every little detail.

Well of you ever want to see a platypus this is the place. You can even do it from a hot bath (or toilet 😄). Many thanks to Sue and Phil who were such freindly and helpful hosts.
10 out of 10 would recommend, especially lovely for a winter get away.
Oh and the dogs loved the river walks and freedom.

What a wonderful spot. The property is amazing. A perfect bush retreat with platypus, kingfishers, and all the wonder of the bush and country in a secluded setting.

Sue and Phill are exceptional hosts. The camp is just perfect and enough off grid to think you are a world away. Nothing needed as far as kitchen gear and even an innovative hot shower system. Fishing with lures only is not an issue. Patience and a little quiet will see platypus pop up and say hi... wonderful part of this great country.

We can't say enough about this property and the hosts. Sue and Phill are extremely welcoming and kind. They are there as much or as little as you need them with lots of knowledge. The touches and decor make you feel like home. Seriously you won't have a better shower. Our furbabies love having this property all to themselves. We will be back again soon.

Great spot to enjoy the Tamworth Country Music Festival. It’s a pretty quick drive (speed checks were present every day of my stay) .
Very clean restrooms and a gorgeous view of the country side. Safe parking and an oasis on the quieter side of the music festival.

Amazing stay and the host, Sue and Phill are lovely people who thought of everything when creating the hut and kitchen. The hut is comfortable with lots of charming touches and the kitchen has everything you'll need. The shower is one of the best you'll ever use and the outdoor bathtub is nice after a day at the river. The view of the river was beautiful and there were plenty of swimming holes. Hands down the best Hipcamp stay. We will be back soon.
