Our property is located within walking distance of the magnificent Ellenborough Falls and many other beautiful and tranquil places to walk or visit. We are located in the village is Elands located in the mountains west of Port Macquarie. Or Taree (Elevation 600mts) Cool climate rainforest surrounds us and the forest is at our doorstep. If you like hiking or simply being in nature you will fall in love with this secret, wild and beautiful place. Our little patch is a small hobby Chestnut 🌰 farm. We are offering our quaint, artistic and private cabin for short term stays Minimum stay 2 nights. This is a perfect retreat for someone who is perhaps an artist or writer and wants to get away from city life and immerse themselves in nature. There is a cosy fire with wood supplied The winter days on the mountain are spectacular but the nights can get cold so bring warm clothing. The bird life is plentiful with many rare and amazing species either visiting on their annual journeys or calling it home such as the yellow tailed black cockatoo. Several species of wallabies graze around the cabin in the early mornings or late afternoons. Elands is a quiet village with an eclectic community, a Post Office and General store. Our closest town being Wingham is approximately 40 minutes drive the last 16 klms up the mountain is unsealed. It is suitable for all types of vehicles but can be rough at times. The cabin has mobile phone service for those with Telstra or Aldi SIM cards. We have 3 generations of family living on our property and we are only interested in hosting a single female or couple. We have for many years hosted helpers on our farm but now are offering it as a short term stay (2 nights minimum) We are completely off grid and try to live in a simple manner with solar, tank water and an outdoor composting toilet. We are only just starting to rent our cabin out and so far have no reviews but have many 5 star reviews on other platforms such as HelpX Unfortunately we don’t allow pets as we have our own dogs on the property who have grown up with the surrounding wildlife and pose no threat. We look forward to meeting you and will do our best to make your stay memorable. Linen supplied

The Bulga Plateau is the place to unwind, swim in mountain rivers and enjoy the Old Growth forests (yes we still have a few left). 600 metres above sea level on clear nights it feels like you are close enough to touch the Milky Way! In the hinterland of the Mid North Coast NSW on Biripi Country. Balgarr means mountain in local Gattang language. The cabin is off grid, includes a small kitchenette with 2 burner gas stove, fridge, has double bed and 2 single beds. We have a BBQ and fire pit. This is rustic living, no flash flush here but a practical long drop eco-friendly compost toilet and a fantastic gas hot water shower out in the elements! You will need to bring your own bedding, pillows sheets etc. we are on tank water and at times it is low! Dogs are welcome but please bring their own bedding. The property is also home to local wildlife and filled with lots of old trees, plants and flowers to enjoy your morning cuppa on the balcony As we are 45 minutes from the closest town, so you will need to fuel up before you head up the mountain. Also bring drinking water and all the food you will require for your stay. The Elands general store carries basic groceries, beer wine and spirits - Loads of walking tracks nearby; the Legendary Ellenborough Falls is 5 mins by car or half hour walk through the Elands Village Hour and half from Port Macquarie and Forster and one hour from Taree in the hinterland from Wingham or Comboyne (coming from Port Macquarie). There is an endless network of gravel roads and fire trails waiting to be explored by vehicle or mountain bike, taking you through the national parks, state forests and undulating farmlands of the Bulga Plateau. This delightful self contained cabin is a perfect getaway for you to work on your project – be it visual art; a book; a film script; photography or simply forest breathing to clear the mind. Blue Knob (Kaoraoa) at 1014 metres, is one of the highest peaks in the forest with Panoramic Plateau Views of the surrounding country. 40 mins by car. I'm retired now and appreciate even more, living in paradise. The usually good amount of rain, the ever warmer summers when we can swim in the Ellenborough River. Yes after 40 years on the Bulga I can feel the changes in the environment, come and enjoy!

We are eco friendly and off grid making it the perfect getaway from the big city. Located on a private property surrounded by beautiful, natural state forest. Our cob house includes: 2 bedroom (1 queen + 2 singles) Outdoor shower (tank water) with gas hot water Fully equipped camping kitchen for cooking Outdoor fire pit Composting toilet system Kitchen: The kitchen has a gas cooker with pots and pans as well as cooking utensils, some cooking essentials (oil, salt & pepper etc) and a full size fridge. There is no oven or microwave, this is off grid living. Bathroom: Located outside which runs hot water. Our water is filtered from our dam and gas heated. Toilet: There is a composting toilet system. Super easy to use, firstly, there is no flush button; after using the toilet please sprinkle some wood shaving in the bowl, this covers your business, immediately neutralizes any smells and prompts the natural decomposition process. Phones/Wi-fi: You may or may not have reception depending on which provider you are with but again… this is off grid living, just enjoy the space! Cascades Cottage is situated on the Beautiful Bulga Plateau; a mountaintop gateway to national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty on the Mid North Coast, NSW. The cottage is fully self-contained; 3 bedrooms, a wood fire, and wrap wraparound verandah to take in the view or stare at the night sky. Situated on 220 acres of farmland and native forest. Native animals abound on the farm and a short drive brings you to the 160m high Ellenborough Falls. Spend time relaxing, exploring, rehabilitating. Cascades Cottage is named after the beautiful Cascades that have a drop of around 10 meters, at the center of which you can cool down in a natural plunge pool or sit and listen to the water cascade down a 4-meter fall. It is an ideal space on a hot summer day to take a camp chair sit with a glass of wine and rejuvenate in absolute privacy. A stay at Cascades Cottage can be any sort of holiday you like - a romantic getaway, a relaxing and peaceful break, or a fun and action-packed adventure exploring the farm, nearby national parks, the fall, and the rapids which is off the farm about 10 minutes away but a fun and dynamic place where you can swim and explore the natural rock pools that run from the top of a natural stream. Native wildlife make the farm their home. Wallabies, koalas, and platypus can often be seen enjoying the surroundings. Kayak on the dam or spend time on the pier waiting for the platypus to play in the early mornings and late afternoon. A stay at the Cascades will bring you close to nature and give you a wonderful tree change for the duration of your stay. Guests have access to a large freshwater dam and two kayaks are provided for your use (as well as life jackets). Guests can explore the whole property of 220 acres. There are many waterways and rainforest areas as well as fields and paddocks. The Mountaintop Shack had incredible views, the photos don’t do it justice. It only had very basic ammenities so be sure to bring an Eski, bedding and shower (if staying more than one night). You will definitely need a 4WD to get to the top, but worth it once you get there! The cows were adorable and friendly, and our pup and 8month old baby had a great time exploring. John was super helpful and gave perfect directions. Thanks a million John!
