Weekend Trip to The Branch River Retreat

Loved camping here! It was peaceful and private. The river was beautiful. We camped near site #3. Debora met us at the gate to help us find our site as it was dark when we arrived. If you are by the river make sure to bring some mosquito repellent. We didn't see any dolphins this time but saw lots of other wildlife like crabs, possums, and kangaroos.

We just spent the most incredible weekend with friends at Mt Nellinda Campsites, and I honestly can’t rave about it enough! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Joe, the host, whose hospitality went above and beyond. He greeted us with a big smile and some great tips on the best spots to set up camp – it’s clear he really cares about his guests having a great stay. The campsite was peaceful, spacious, and beautifully maintained. One of the highlights for us was being surrounded by so much wildlife – it really made the whole experience feel magical and a bit surreal. The toilets were spotless too, which was nice. You can tell Joe takes real pride in keeping everything clean and comfortable – it definitely took the whole stay to the next level. Whether you're a seasoned camper or just dipping your toes into the outdoors, Mt Nellinda Campsites is the perfect escape. It’s clear a lot of love and care goes into this place, and it really shows. Can’t wait to come back!

Great spot. Very clean close to the beach and helpful staff. Amenities are excellent I stayed in a powered campsite the area was tidy and level for an easy set up of my camper trailer. 10 minute walk to the beach through great scenery tracks.

3 nights at Carawirry Forest Escape

The cottage was a stunning place to spend the weekend even though it rained so we didn’t get to explore as much of the bush as we would have liked. Loved the maps which greeted us with so many surprising options to explore. We walked lyrebird and yowie tracks which were challenging but very rewarding. No lyrebird sightings this time round but definitely worth the climb up the side of the mountain. Had a lovely time chilling with the walleroos in the outdoor tub after that one!

Cute little shielded area at the back of the property, shame it was a bit cloudy at night so the stars weren't as visible but none the less my partner and I had a good time.

I spent one night here whilst doing the Tomaree Coastal Walk and I enjoyed my stay! Staff were nice, clean bathrooms, easy access to the beach and good options at the nearby restaurant.

We love camping at Mt Nellinda on Joe’s property! The signs and instructions to get to camp are easy to spot and the roads/tracks are well kept the entire way up to the top camp sites and to the view of the surrounding area. Joe was very considerate when giving us the option of picking which camp site to stay to suit our set up and we loved staying at site 5. The portaloos are very well kept and the wildlife around was beautiful to sit and watch. Thank you Joe.

Surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, we woke up to picturesque views every morning and enjoyed peaceful evenings under a sky full of stars. Whether you love mountain vistas, lush forests, or serene open spaces, this place has it all. One of the best things about Mt Nellinda is the variety of camping spots available. Whether you prefer a secluded spot tucked away in nature or a more open space with panoramic views, there’s something for everyone. It was amazing to have the freedom to choose the perfect spot that suited our group’s needs. Another standout feature was how well-maintained the amenities were. The restrooms, and communal areas were always spotless and fully stocked, making the stay even more comfortable. It’s clear that the owners take great pride in keeping the site clean and welcoming for all visitors. Overall, Mt Nellinda is a hidden gem for campers looking for a relaxing, beautiful, and well-cared-for place to unwind. We’ll definitely be back!

We spent one night in the Lil House. Everything was well prepared and equipped. Even wood in the firepit for the evening. We were surprised that we even had eggs, butter, bread, some vegetables, fruits, coffee, milk and many other things to prepare our own breakfast. Our dog was happy to run around unleashed and we had a great time.

The property rests on the shoulder on Mt Nellinda on nineteen hectares of land, there are two large Greenhouses where we grow potted flowers and some veggies, also several large dams which are used for irrigation and act as a Sanctury for our geese, best of all are the views. The perfect spot for relaxing next to a fire and listening to the Frogs and nightlife and waking to the sounds of kookaburras and bird life, Lots of Rock Wallabies in the evenings and early mornings. Dog friendly, no leads required, portable toilets in the multiple Camp site 1 and an older style toilet in the camping area 2, fresh water available only next to the portable toilets camping area 1. also included is a camp kitchen with fridge, kettle microwave etc for your convenience. Check with host regarding campfires. Group bookings accepted with prior notice to save camping areas. Range of six camping areas. CAMP 1 allows up to 14 or more campsites to include caravans, motor homes, large or small. tents etc. with flat and slightly flat areas and close to the roadway dead end street. CAMP 2 allows up to eight or more smaller caravans tents rooftops etc also with some flatter areas. CAMP 3 is a private in the bush area and will cater for five or so rooftops tents, difficult for caravans or large vehicles. CAMP 4 smaller possibly two tents or rooftops secluded in the bush. CAMP 5 similar to camp 3 in the bush and completely private great for a get together with friends. CAMP 6 is the very top of the mountain with a long wide strip of cleared area with bush on both sides and a window at the end to the valley below, very private, must be fully contained and would suit most vehicles, may lose traction if pulling a heavy caravan or trailer.

The Branch River Retreat

Our property is private and we ask you to contact us first to ensure we can provide the facilities suitable for you. sealed roads. The River Retreat sits beside a wide river, with dams and other scattered paddock sites among trees and dams. It best suits off-road independent hybrid caravaners and tent dwellers. The river is lined with mangroves and branches off the Karuah River (mosquitoes during wet periods feed the leaping fish). Birdlife includes: Wedge-tailed and sea eagles, hawks, Tawny Frogmouths, water waders, occasional Jabiroos, pelicans and swans. Be woken by Magpies and Kookaburras, colourful parrots and smaller shyer birds. You'll see kangaroos, wallabies, and maybe Echidnas. You may espy a Koala along the foreshore. For this reason, while we accept dogs, they must be on a leash (if not just for their own safety). The boat ramp allows access for kayaks/canoes. Or just sit on a camper chair and dangle your feet in the water while watching the mud crabs go about their social business. Riverside sites are not powered and do not have water or sewerage. They are situated within 10m to 25m of each other and if this is too close, we recommend booking two sites. Generally, we prefer campers to be 100% self-contained, with their own toilet. A toilet is however accessible, but some 300m to 400m distance from the dams and rivers. There is cold potable running water here for topping up. Sealed roads to the front gate to access the property from north and south. All-weather gravel road access is available, although paddock sites can only be accessed by vehicle during dry periods. Weather willing, we can provide more secluded sites by some lovely dams, (please check conditions if you have concerns). Local groceries can be sourced from Karuah and Stroud. Activities include: - Bird/nature watching - Paddling/canoeing - Fishing - Bike riding (small motor vessels only by arrangement) - Surface type: grass or paddock leveled areas and others with slight slopes and accessed with 4WD (of course subject to weather). - Generally fair to good Mobile phone access. - BYO or Preorder firewood for applicable sites out of fire season. - No electrical connections unless by arrangement (for longer term Hipcampers) - We treat our own sewerage. - No generators please.
