The Retreat Juniper Tent/Van sites sit at the base of Green's Mountain nestled among the Junipers and Pinion pines. You will stay just outside the entrance to the City of Rocks National Reserve off the road that connects it to Castle Rocks State Park. Enjoy all the fun of camping under the stars with an amazing secluded location at the entrance to the City of Rocks. Enjoy Rock Climbing, Bouldering, Hiking, Biking, Fishing, and Hot Springs, all within a 5 minute drive! The Park is full all summer but you will have your own quiet base camp 2 minutes away.  Sit around the fire pit at night and gaze at the amazing star filled sky. Sites 8, 9, and 10 are all in the same private forested area and great for groups but still separated for plenty of privacy. Each site has a level tent pad, parking area for a car or van (car/van camping ok), and access to potable water, bathrooms, and garbage. We have now added a 15amp plug to each site to provide power for things like phone and laptop charging, air pump, medical devices, or other basics at no charge. Camper vans, or other vehicles that want to plug in to the power will need to pay an additional $5/day electric fee. No EV charging. Parking is allowed right at camp but no vehicles bigger than a van (20ft), and no trailers. No mosquitos here! PET FRIENDLY! This land has been in our family over 100 years. The Retreat has the closest campsites to the City of Rocks.

Site 9 was formally called tent site 1. Drive right to your camp. Car or Van camping is fine! It has a large 12x15 tent pad with a picnic table and fire pit. There is a privacy/wind fence. Juniper trees surround camp. Water hydrant with potable water is next to the parking area. Outdoor heated shower now availabe. Rustic and clean double outhouse nearby with garbage just outside. 15amp plugin is next to the tent pad. This is a dark sky and quiet hours campsite. NO MUSIC OR PARTYING ALLOWED! Quiet hours are 10pm-7am.

Tent/Van site 8 has a 20 foot circular tent pad with a washed gravel base. It includes a picnic table, fire pit, hammock poles, sun shade, and access to the nearby bathrooms, garbage and water. Outdoor heated shower now availabe. 15amp plugin is next to the tent pad. Parking is available from 2 entrances including right next to your camp. This is a dark sky and quiet hours campsite. NO MUSIC OR PARTYING ALLOWED! Quiet hours are 10pm-7am.

This was the perfect place for us on this trip. Simple and well maintained tent site with a brand new and clean outhouse. We didn't use it a lot made a great base camp. Will stay here again.

Great spot! Ross was really kind and stopped by to check in on us and say hello shortly after we arrived. The showers were AWESOME after a hot day in the park. Overall, it was a great find and I would definitely stay again.

Great alternative to staying in the City of Rocks park itself. Close enough to commute into the park for activities while being kind to the pocket book. Also closer to the local swimming hole and pizza place. The hosts are thoughtful with their amenities including a hot shower, a clean outhouse, and garbage services (something the park quit offering).

A nice quiet place & a very helpful & resourceful host. All I heard were hawks, owls, and doves. Loved the outdoor shower and access to firewood.. City of Rocks was amazing!

First time seeing The City of Rocks and I'm really glad to have stayed at this campground. There are places just down the road to pick up a few extra supplies and just in case you're wondering, I think there's pretty decent cell service in this area. I appreciate the thorough driving directions.

We really enjoyed our stay. We have a very large tent. Host helped us choose the site where it would fit. Area is quiet and peaceful with easy access to City of Rocks and Castle Rocks. We aren't climbers but really enjoyed the hiking and spectacular scenery. Pit toilets were very clean and in built into a cute rustic structure. Shower was terrific. Great instructions all around the property. Town of Almo is tiny but has a a visitors center for the area, great ice cream and a pizza place with a huge selection of craft beers and ciders. Hope we get back to this beautiful remote part of Idaho in the future.

Nice site very close to the City of Rocks entrance. The first night we were the only ones there and it was peaceful. City of Rocks is amazing we hiked all over. In the afternoon a large rain storm came through so we decided not to stay a second night, instead we headed to our next destination. We would stay again.

A nice quiet and peaceful spot to camp for a few nights. Ross was very responsive, accommodating, and kind. The hot shower was awesome and having power to charge my phone was great; the location is so close to City of Rocks that my phone didn’t have enough time to charge in the car while exploring the area.

I camped here in June and again in October and both times have been wonderful. Even with neighbors at the other sites it felt secluded and safe. Wildlife was abundant and the views and close proximity City of Rocks and Castle Rocks were was perfect. The toilet is the nicest pit toilet I’ve even seen! And me and my grow campers (and dogs) had a perfect weekend. Thank you and I can’t wait to come back!

Excellent tent/car camping site. Nice privacy with all the Juniper trees. Nice hosts who provide creative basic amenities such as 20A power outlet, water, toilet, and there's a new shower stall. It's has a limited warm water supply so only 5 minutes but it's enough if your quick and careful. Also, read the directions Ross gives; DON'T trust GPS. Google, etc will take you down several miles of dirt roads because they are technically shorter. However, Ross' directions will take you on a slightly longer route but on paved roads but for the last couple miles. His directions are faster and safer. Ross came by to answer questions and gave me an info sheet of the area resources. (Thanks much, Ross!!) Tracy's has great Italian Sodas and free Wi-Fi. FYI: Absolutely, no cell coverage at the site. Excellent if you're looking to unplug. Highly recommended!

Great little spot. The bathrooms were close and Nice and clean. Water pump was close by as well. The awning over the table was a nice touch and great for blocking the sun in the morning. It’s right next to the entrance to the park. I’ve never camped inside the park, but this spot has always been amazing for trips to the city of rocks.

Lovely spot! The junipers made it smell amazing and it was so close to everything! We added an extra person and our host was very accommodating. Perfect way to spend a trip exploring the area. The outhouses were kept clean and tidy and were some of the best toilets I’ve experienced.

it was a beautiful spot, and just as advertised! i ended up having a really short stay because i got in late and had to head out early, but the views were gorgeous.

Ross and Sherida know what they’re doing. We rented the Yurt for a night and everything was already taken care of! We appreciated the mats and rugs on the floor of the tent, cots with mattresses, clean bathrooms, and firewood setup at the campsite for us! 10/10 would stay here again!
