(Dispersed site)
I was nervous about staying here because this place had a 40% recommendation when I booked it. But this was the only place we could find that had availability for the weekend we needed and that was dog friendly, and we were only staying for one night, so we decided to take the risk.
The campground is both beautiful and underwhelming at the same time. Each campsite overlooks the lake, which is home to lots of beautiful birds. There are lots of super nice dogs running around. The hot spring is very large and warm. There are fire pits at many of the campsites, and free firewood for you to take. There is ample parking so you can pull your car right up to where you're staying. The weather was really nice. We didn't utilize many of the other benefits of the place, which include a hot tub and fishing in the lake without a license. For all these reasons, the place was great.
The underwhelming comes from the fact that the place is pretty dumpy. There are a lot of broken down cars that are clearly there permanently. There is a half-sunken boat in the river. There are large rusty barrels strewn about. The bathrooms are not particularly clean, and smell really sulfuric because of the hot spring.
I recommend staying here if you need a cheap place to stay, are excited about the hot springs, and are okay with a pretty dumpy surrounding. The dumpiness didn't affect our actual stay at all, but it definitely created a not-so-nice ambiance.
By the way, we paid $69 for the night through Hipcamp, but when we got there (before they realized we had already paid) they said it would be $7 per person (there were four of us).

in Camp Tule Elk, CaliforniaThis was my second time staying here, and it was great both times! Highly recommend.
Camp Tule Elk/Hunters Hideout
in Camp Tule Elk, CaliforniaThis is a lovely place to stay! We had a wonderful time. We had originally booked the Tacklebox (the smaller one) because the Bunkhouse was already taken, but when we arrived the hosts said that the other visitors had cancelled so they kindly let us stay in the Bunkhouse instead. It was clean, warm, and generally lovely. There are lots of animals on the site (five dogs, a couple horses, eight chickens) which was really fun, and the pond is lovely. We would definitely stay here again!
