Beautiful views but you need at least an SUV or truck to make it up the steep, rocky hill to get to the campsite. The shower is down the hill about a quarter mile and costs $1 to use.

close to town and park. primitive but Marc provided water and reasonable facilities. tight quarters but great views of stars and desert. would do it again!

We stayed at Living Rock Campsite for two nights while visiting Terlingua / Big Bend for the Thanksgiving holiday. The location is great - just up the road from the coffee shop in the center of the Ghost Town - which makes it very easy to get supplies and to reach the Terlingua entrance to the park itself. Despite being so close to the town, the campsite is very quiet with an amazing view of the surrounding area.
Unfortunately, our host had some technological problems and ended up double-booking campsites during our stay. When we arrived and couldn't find a vacant site, it was difficult to get in touch with him to figure out what was going on. We eventually worked it out and really enjoyed the spot we ended up with, but I would suggest that future campers get in touch with Marc well ahead of arrival to nail down the details. I will say that he was really apologetic and it seems like he's taking steps to fix the problem, so it might not be an issue going forward.
Overall, I think this campsite has a lot of potential and I would definitely recommend checking it out if all of the spots in the park are full.

Roll up the dusty road next to La Posada Milagro to The Otter's Den, a gorgeous tipi tucked into a beautiful section of the desert. Equipped with a compostable toilet, the most stunning outdoor shower, a couch, queen-sized bed, coffee table, fire pit, outdoor stove and outdoor seating, the only thing you need to bring is toilet paper! While the location is ideal, the area is still remote so pack in your own water and make sure your car is fit to climb the bumpy gravel road. I loved my stay here. Despite being located less than a mile from Terlingua Ghost Town, I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. One of my favorite moments was unzipping the flap in the morning and stepping out into the cool desert air.
