Places to see near The Lake at the Flying J Farm
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We had a great experience at the Flying J Farm. Richard and his dog Ruby met us at the entrance of his farm and took us down to the campsite. The hipcamp is a beautiful space around a pond with several spots to set up a campsite. We set up camp next to the pond where a fire ring was already established. There were trails around the pond and we found blackberry bushes along the way. We enjoyed canoeing in the morning as Richard has kayaks, a canoe and paddleboard available for guest use. Overall this is a great escape that is still close to the city, we hope to come back in the Fall.
My girlfriend and I were the first ones to stay on Richard's property, and we really loved it! The area is quite private - on arrival he and his dog Ruby greeted us immediately and took us back over half a mile to the camping area. There is a pretty large pond with trails through the surrounding woods, and he had left a canoe, two kayaks and a paddleboard by the pond for us to use. He told us we could camp wherever we saw fit, and we were the only group there that night. We set up pretty close to the pond next to a fire pit, and it was a lovely spot! It felt peaceful and secluded.
It should be noted that the cabin and outdoor kitchen mentioned on the listing are pretty basic and could use a little work (the host admitted these are still a work in process), but the cabin has clean running water and a shower/bathroom.
I would recommend this site more for the property itself rather than the cabin. For guests eager for a beautiful, quiet place to set up a tent with a few basic but convenient amenities, Richard's farm is perfect. We absolutely loved it and would like to come back one day!
Great camping for kids
Flying J Farms is a great place to take kids camping! I was searching for the perfect place to take my 3 year old on her first camping trip and was not disappointed. All the camping sites are remote, primitive, and private, but there is still a shower and bathroom available via a short drive down to the garden house. There is also a small lake house/cabin available to use, which we took shelter in and played board games during some heavy afternoon thunder storms. The sites themselves provide a very well rounded camping experience with many activities available including: fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, nature watching, star gazing, and just relaxing in a hammock. We stayed 5 days - My girls had the time of their lives and learned a lot about camping and the outdoors in general. We will be back soon!
Spent 2 night’s camping with my boyfriend at the farm and had an excellent experience. First a warm welcome by Richard’s goldie ‘Ruby’, followed by a tour of the amazing,
huge piece of farm land. We felt welcomed right away! We chose a wonderful spot in the shade, right along the pond. The fire ring was perfect, with an abundance of firewood provided by Richard and the woods. Our favorite part was Ruby spending the day with us :) Richard stopped by ar sunset to take her home and that was truly a beautiful day. We would definitely stop by again if ever in the area. Thank you again Richard for being such a wondeful host and letting us share a fantastic moment on your farm. Hope to see you and Ruby someday on our visit back to NY.
The Lake at the Flying J Farm was absolutely lovely! Our host was friendly and accommodating and gave us a tour of the beautiful farm. The site was nestled in the woods beside the lake. The lake is a great size for kayaks and canoes. Rich in history, the farm had many unique features including maple syrup tapping, berry bushes and fruit trees, wildlife, and a lovely farmhouse. Would definitely recommend this destination for any campers looking for a peaceful getaway.
This property was beautiful and our site next to the lake was perfect, this was the privacy and quiet me and my wife were looking for to get away for the weekend. having a canoe to use was also very nice for a morning paddle around the lake as well. I would for sure come back here again!
