Pitch your tent by the pond or in the woods and enjoy a couple of acres in rural southern Ohio all to yourself! This primitive site is right off of a quiet country road and offers parking, a picnic table, fire ring, seating, and a simple composting toilet. Firewood is included. Enjoy a campfire under the stars and fall asleep to the sounds of crickets and frogs.
At the moment, the site is a bit under construction. We have been salvaging building materials from old barns in the area with which to build some nice little cabins, and a communal kitchen, etc. The site is still nice and peaceful, but there are a few piles of building materials near the parking by the road. We hope to have it cleaned up and turned into more infrastructure this year!
The area offers great hiking, paddling, boating, mountain biking and disc golf (Paint Creek State Park is only 2 miles away and the Highlands Nature Sanctuary is 7). And a visit to the nearby Mennonite markets and bakery is a must!

The vibe at Pondside Camp

Overall a great experience! Fairly close proximity to the road, but it is a country backroad and the quaint camping setting is just far enough away and down a bit of a hill by the pond to make up for it. Plenty of seating and tables provided by the large fire pit. The composting toilet was very clean and was just enough room for me, but became an awkward space when my 4yr old was spooked by a bee and squeezed in with me.
It seems like the site is new and improvements are already underway and it will continue to get better and better. A perfect base camp for outdoor activities in and around Paint Creek.
Aimee was very responsive and gave us great recommendations of nearby places to go. Our group of 4 adults very much enjoyed our stay. There is a great fire ring with all the wood you could possibly need right next to it. The outhouse was very clean. The property is fairly secluded. You have a couple of acres to yourself with very easy access to the road. It's a beautiful site.
This site was a little tricky to get to because our gps wasn't picking it up. The host was super helpful though. Once we found the place, we were pretty excited about how peaceful it was there, unknowing to how short-lived that would be. We did get a fire going despite some misting rain at dusk and were able to get our dinner cooked. Unfortunately the night we stayed there was the night of a terrible SEVERE thunderstorm with the most blinding heat lightning I've ever experienced which came on shortly after nightfall. Our dog is terrified of thunder so we had to move her into the car. It's been over a week and she's still not the same as before the storm. This is of course no fault of our host or this site specifically. The site is actually quite charming with a little pond, a compost and composting toilet. Firewood was offered as part of the service. Aimee even checked up on us after hearing about the terrible storm. There's a infantile fruit forest that has been planted on the site as well, which is really amazing. We would totally stay there again, hopefully with nicer weather. :)
