Wild desert flora, and the dramatic escarpments of the Sacramento Mountains in the Chihuahuan Desert make up the awe-inspiring backdrop of Oliver Lee Memorial State Park Campground. Explore around the park, and you might just think you found a mirage. There are small sarkling pools of water under the cottonwoods! We call this the kind of camping you want in the desert.

The best place to hang out and explore the Tularosa Basin! 44 campsites include 7 that are reservable. 18 sites have water and electric hook ups, the rest are dry sites. The campground has showers in the middle easy to get to from all sites. Some sites have shelters. The visitor center has a nice small museum with info about the area. The park has a nice nature trail and access to the Dog Canyon Trail which rises up 3,100 feet in 5.5 miles. Supplies are available in Alamogordo 12 miles away.

Stayed at Oliver Lee on a photo scouting mission in February this year, and we loved staying here! The sun shelters at most tent sites were super helpful against the windy nights, and the facilities were kept clean and quite. Highly recommend. And we'll be back.

Just outside the campsite, and down the road, at White Sands National Monument.
