Beautiful land with a wonderful river in walking distance. Peaceful and safe. The toilets are non-functional so plan on bringing your own. Many if the sites do not have roads cleared to them or have roads with large washes through them, so plan on 4 wheel drive.

Beautiful property. The campsite by the creek was lovely- nice, established firepit, easy walk down to the water, striking cliffs and lots of quiet. We had a blast and our kids and dogs loved splashing in the creek.

Nice place, exactly what is shown in the pictures on the site.
If you are coming during rainy/snowy times, I would suggest having 4x4 and some clearance. There are a few places on the dirt trail on the property that might be difficult for 2wd vehicles to navigate but that is clearly stated on the listing as well.
All in all I would come again.

Seemed too isolated for two females alone. No phone service, didn't see a toilet, wouldn't take my car down the dirt road afraid of getting stuck. The day of arrival had an emergency alert of flooding and to leave the area. There is only one way in and out so didn't feel safe. The grave on the way in freaked me out a bit, along with the thick chain and locks at the gate entrance.

The jackalope Ranch is about 20 minutes from the highway and that was just what we hoped for. It was beautifully quiet, pretty easy to find and we slept like rockstars. Perfect for a quiet get away!

I usually love primitive camping and hipcamp never fails to provide those, however the Jackalope ranch is a bit too primitive. The dirt road was sketchy, a little bumpy and uneven for a camper van but I made it, just not quite to the chosen site, as it was down a rocky hill a bit further than I wanted to venture, so I stayed at the top of the road and since I was the only camper there I felt ok doing that. Once I made the reservation it was noted in the directions that an SUV or truck might be preferable, how was I to know that before reserving? The sites were basically dried grass with no picnic table or anything to designate them except a number on a pole. No toilet facilities or port o pot that I could see despite being in the description. It was super quiet and peaceful with a gorgeous sunset over the ridge, and I felt safe, slept well and I guess that’s all that matters in the end. I would not recommend to a travel trailer or fifth wheel or class A.

Such a cool and interesting property! Not a lot of service out there so if you need something, just give Robert plenty of time to respond. My kids were really wanting to play in some water so he directed to a site down by the creek and it was perfect! You def need a bigger vehicle or 4WD to get down there. There was a fire pit and some limbs someone must have left so we didn’t have to do much firewood gathering ourselves. It got chilly down there at night so make sure you have extra blankets. The bugs were kinda bad too but lots of bug spray, bug bracelets and a Smokey fire helped!
Beautiful place and would like to visit and explore more another time!
Oh, and the Maps app totally didn’t work right with the coordinates provided. Just focus on his directions and you’ll find the place.

Place was great. Plenty of room to explore - the old buildings out there were really unique and picture-worthy. Easy access to the ranch - sunsets and sunrises were amazing there.
Bring your bug spray though!

We love camping by the river on Jackalope Ranch. It was early in the season the quiet and the stars are mesmerizing. We will definitely be back. It’s our 3rd year to the ranch and love exploring, hiking and bird watching the surrounding area. Robert always responds so quickly and is very helpful.

This cabin is solely you are on your own. You are way out in a ranch 9 miles of dirt road on high way. When we got there it was a blizzard and the cabin was freezing cold. Everything he says that’s in that cabin, showers, hot water, water, electricity…. Was not completely true. Hot water heater he said broke 1 day before our trip. Wall heater was hard to light and went out frequently and had to relight it. Had no water when we got there, and it runs off battery , and batteries almost dead. Electricity runs off a gas powered generator, not the solar panel. Batteries to solar panel only held 10%. They are bad. Didn’t have a full tank of propane either, it was low and ran out, very little water, and it ran out, then you have to wait 3-5hrs to get them to refill. Wood I bought online was not there when we got there. Basically it’s a fun and secluded place with lots of hiking and a creek. But if one went there with not knowing

This ranch is absolutely beautiful! I cannot wait to go back again. The owner was quick to help us solve a few small issues. An unexpected issue came up with our water. They found a solution and we stayed our entire time even though they offered to let us leave. It snowed the whole time we were there, beautiful! I recommend perhaps talking to the owner to ensure everything is up and running and make your reservation at least a week in advance just to provide make-readdy time. We rented the day before we went so we did not give enough time but he got everything ready in a short amount of time and left us to enjoy the serene and silent ranch!

The property is beautiful and I would highly recommend it if there was an option to tent or car camp for $20.
I would not recommend to pay $50+ for use of the cabin.
We booked this cabin because the ad advertised it had a shower, which it did but the hot water heater was out of commission. In addition, the cabin was filthy. The kitchen sink had gross food remnants , the bathroom sink was dirty and gross, the shower was uncleaned and gross. There was just trash laying around in and out of the cabin. Also the inverter that was hooked up to the solar battery supply had a high pitch annoying tone coming from it, constantly.
Since the cabin and property are located an an area outside of cell reception,I could not call the property owner. My wife and I made the best of the situation by sleeping in the back of my truck, far away from the cabin.
If you are looking for a place to tent camp, this would be nice for a quarter of the price. If you’re looking for a cozy, semi-clean cabin this is far from that.

Jack O Lope Cabins was a nice experience. The cabin itself is a typical cabin with a bed, several cots, a kitchen and restroom with shower. But it is the land itself that is the star attraction. The cabin seats near a wonderful overlook of Tecolote creek. The property is big and has much to see and discover. While I had other photography commitments to do I will certainly visit Jack O Lope again to better explore this beautiful land.

I found a soggy sleeping bag or quilt at my site and a large container of debris - broken plastic objects and water sogged notebooks. The signage to campsites was very poorly marked. Not Robert's fault, but it was obvious that previous campers were not respectful of handling their bathroom needs, quite disgusting. It's a pity, because the site itself is spectacular.

This is my second time camping here once in a tent and once in a camper trailer. Super chill and beautiful spot. We heard and saw a few other campers sometimes because sound carries in that valley and off those canyons, but mostly we had privacy and peace and quiet.
No cell service the whole time (which was great actually) and you need a 4WD especially after it’s been raining. We were towing a small camping trailer and had no problem navigating site number 1.

This place is absolutely amazing! Even in the pouring rain! The kids loved being able to explore safely with the dog. Gorgeous views and amazing star gazing. Having a designated fire pit was awesome and most sites have some firewood to start you off.

Property was beautiful. Loved the solitude. Unfortunately the solar did not work so the experience was a wooden tent in a beautiful location. Glad we had all our camping gear. Needed to make extra trips to town for ice. Site would benefit from a good trash pick up.

Jackalope Ranch was such a great Hipcamp. We did an overnight stop here in the way to Utah and it was exceeded our expectations. Nice flat area at our campsite for our rooftop tent. Great views and the land is fun to explore! Can’t wait to come back
