Grrat comms from host.. Our first HipCamp experience.. We had a great time - things sort of "hit the fan" on out way there. Coronavirus, and a serious rain made it a bit difficult to reach the site. Be aware, Im on Verizon and had no cell service - the sites are not well marked and i did not download the site map so I had to make due.. Remote location - no one to bother us - it was GREAT!!
Robert, the host, was responsive and wonderful to communicate with. We had, in our opinion, the best spot on the Ranch...down by the river in a canyon. Note you need 4 wheel drive to access it but it was magnificent. We enjoyed walking the ranch in the morning and exploring and our pups had a blast in the river. A fantastic place!
Very beautiful, serene setting! We weren't able to get our camper down to the site, but Robert was very accommodating about allowing us to park in another spot. We loved the peace and quiet, and our children had great fun kayaking in the river. Seeing the elk herd at dusk and listening to the bugling was a real treat! Thanks for sharing your lovely ranch!
Unfortunately we didn't make it.
The area had gotten 8-11 inch of snow the day before, and more was in the forecast; nothing unusually for our truck though, so we decide to continue. However, a mile out we hit a snow covered rut, and got stuck. Fortunately,4hrs later we were able to rock it out and get back on the road. The rest of the road towards the ranch was completely covered in snow, and we did not want to risk getting stuck again.
What I can tell you, is that Robert is an amazing and gracious host. He was so excited for us to stay at Jackalope ranch, he was also very accommodating, as well as responsive. The area is ABSOLUTELY breath taking! A part of NM we hadn't explored before.
We will definitely be back, and we hope to finally stay at Jackalope Ranch!
As a single mother of teen girls, it’s nice to have a safe place to go camping! It’s a beautiful drive out to the ranch, easily accessible in a small car, & just 15 minutes from I-25. The campsite was shady and a fire pit with firewood was provided. We were also able to use the grill at the cabin. The river was a short hike away & my girls had a great time swimming, zip lining across the river, & shooting targets. Rock climbing would be great here too! The owner showed up when we were across the river, gave me a ride back on his ATV, & invited us for shooting practice. Robert was so easy to get a hold of and he got back to me right away answering all my questions and was extremely welcoming. He checked up on us each day to make sure we were having a great time! We highly recommend this safe & family friendly campsite!!
Beautiful location, great camping!
The Jackolope Ranch was beautiful and a wonderful camping experience - so much space and privacy. We had a great time. Robert was very helpful! Thanks!
We came and stayed at Jackalope Ranch in December, and although we dealt with a bit of chilly winter weather, we had a fantastic camping trip! The ranch is very private and secluded, and we had a great time relaxing in peace and quiet and exploring the ranch on our own time. It's a no frills campsite, although there are some amenities for campers, like nice built up rock fire pits, log benches, and a picnic table. It's a wonderful rustic setting in the heart of New Mexico. It's a perfect site for self-contained RVs, with plenty of wide open level space to set up camp. The river overlook was stunning and we really enjoyed exploring the old structures on the property as well.
