Nancy has created a little slice of heaven for a passing camper in one of the most incredible and beautiful places in the USA. The site is secluded and individual, but has an amazing tent platform & stairs to access. There's space to back straight up to the site, which was awesome for moving gear. We loved having the campfire, especially to help with bugs! Definitely bring bug spray, they are forceful. There's also water hookup right at site and electric! This is truly a gem, and I would camp there again any day. I hope everyone gets to experience the park through this site.
What a cute, little spot. My girlfriend and I had a great time camping at Balsam Way Campsite. A few things we loved were: it's quiet at night, the stars are easy to see and beautiful, the wooden platform for the tent is a great idea, there was enough privacy that we could use the shower set up easily, and having the fire pit already set up helped us not need to do a lot.
Some things I think campers should know are: The platform is not very large. We have a 3 person tent and it filled up the space on the platform with a little room on the edges for the mosquito candles. The site is directly on the side road with other properties on it. We rarely had people driving by… and I mean RARELY, but it’s not as offset as I predicted. Nevertheless, those are simply things to know. Overall, the site is great for a quick set up and to get straight to the hiking in Acadia. Peaceful. The host was lovely and helped us out when we had questions. I would recommend to anyone. Also, the twinkle lights in the back made the spot extra cozy. AND the host kindly provided little tiki torches with mosquito repellent in it as well
Beautiful spot, not far from Acadia and Bar Harbor - super easy access to the Southwest Harbor portion of the park and a brief drive to the main sections. The platform was really nice to keep the tent off the ground and the lights and torches around the site added a lot of ambience. Site is a little close to the road, but the road is not a main road and very lightly traveled - I think we only saw about 2 cars per day. Hot pay showers were just a short drive/moderate walk up the road. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, absolutely perfect spot for an Acadia getaway.
The Balsam Way Campsite is a well-kept, private site very close to Acadia. From the twinkle lights to the fire pit, we loved the attention to detail in every aspect of the campsite. Our advice to future travelers would be to apply bugspray before you arrive. The mosquitos are pretty unavoidable in this region at night, and there are citronella tiki torches provided to help keep them away.
This camp site is incredibly convenient! Its tucked away off a private road and if you listen close enough at night you can hear the waves crashing along the seawall. Nancy provided chairs and some tiki torches among other things. The portapotty is definitely convenient. It rained for a bit while we were there with high winds and the platform was perfect for putting our stuff under to keep dry. The site is also tucked back to avoid high winds which was also nice! The shower spot was closed when we were there, but for future reference, theres public showers at Blackwoods campground. Thank you for having us, Nancy! You made our Acadia trip really special!
Great location, peaceful (so quiet) and a great view of the stars.
A small table would have been nice to have to cook on since we our tent took up most of the platform.
The composting toilet was a new experience but certainly better than nothing.
It was great to have a hose and the option for power hook up too.
