Welcome to the Cibolo Gardens Nature Preserve! Just 22 miles from downtown San Antonio, not far off of US 281, our educational homestead is a unique place to treat yourself to a night or two of glamorous camping and pampering.

There is such a strong need right now for people to get out of the house to unwind and do so responsibly.  Spending time outside in a natural, safe environment is one of the best ways and we offer a comfortable, beautiful space for that.  Covid19 has presented a challenge for all of us in becoming hyper-aware of the need for doing everything we can to stop the spread of the Cornavirus.  We are vigilant about sanitizing surfaces and having guest guidelines for safe-distancing while staying with us.  We're also confident that you'll feel comfortable with our safety measures while you forget the world for a while and lose yourself in the sunsets, the woods and with Chef Brandi's meals.

Our 19 foot diameter, 11 foot tall and luxuriously-furnished bell tent is just what you want to have the comforts of a resort while nestled in our south woods watching your own private sunset.  During cold nights, there's no getting cold in this tent!  We have a deluxe Olympian Wave propane heater to keep you warm during the fall/ winter season.  Bring your own food if you like, but we recommend the "pampered program" with Chef Brandi's gourmet dinners and breakfasts.  (Her pancakes are absolutely amazing.)  The tent itself is all yours with a queen-sized bed that sleeps two, a futon couch (that folds out into a bed if you have one or two additional guests), cedar chest coffee table, rocking chair, a solar-charged battery for lights/ fans/ phone charging, a full refreshment oasis with fresh water and coffee/ tea service.  Plus - a back patio with your own personal chiminea for enjoying the warmth of the fire and cooking your complimentary s'mores.

When you arrive, you'll be welcomed by our Host, given a quick tour and then escorted to your bell tent where we invite you take a little time to settle in.  If you've ordered dinner, let us know what time you'd like Chef to bring it to your tent or you can prepare the food you brought with you in our outdoor community kitchen.  [We do ask that you please plan on checking in before 8pm or sunset, whichever comes first.]

Your canvas tent is a very short walk to all of our amenities, including the compost toilet, outdoor cob shower, filtered rain water stations (for drinking), outdoor kitchen (with full sink, propane stove/ oven/ grill, prep tables, utensils and pots/ pans), swimming pool, hammocks and classroom (where we invite you to enjoy our library, board games and WiFi).  Additionally, there are multiple potable (drinking safe) well-water stations throughout the property.

While at Cibolo Gardens, up near the campground area, you are likely to see our multiple gardens, a chicken or two cluck by, rabbits, pigs, ducks, our two dogs and the cat.  When you venture into the Nature Preserve, you'll want to look for deer, armadillo, porcupine, opossum, wild pigs and any number of birds (including our Grey Herron).  Also, be on the lookout for spectacular sunsets.

Feel free to simply relax in the shade of the persimmon and juniper trees. Or, to add some activity to your stay, hike the varying terrain on our 45 acres, hunt for fossils in the dry creek bed, break out your tree & plant id books, or watch the wildlife (even if it’s just the chickens).  Refresh by taking a dip in the above ground pool, or wash off in the outdoor cob shower.  [Please be advised that besides campers, we also host homesteading, wilderness survival, gun safety & herbal medicine classes on our site.  So, there may be some company in some of the community areas, but you'll definitely have your own space for privacy. ]

If you want to explore more Hill Country, nearby attractions for outdoor fun include the Guadalupe River State Park (16mi) or Natural Bridge Cavern (17mi).

This place is wonderful. I took my sons, ages 6 and 9 and we had a wonderful time exploring the site, meeting all kinds of animals, and even fossil hunting! The meals are fantastic and my kids both loved them! My older son especially loved the fluffy bathrobes and outdoor shower and my younger son really enjoyed the selection of board games we played as we settled in for the night. Of course, they both loved the s’mores and a lovely little campfire in the chimenea. Dave is a great host and we can’t wait to come back!

This was a great value glamping spot. It is perfect for one night away from the city when you don't have the time to strike camp yourself. The location is a large nature preserve area just off highway 281. You can hear the highway in the distance, but more immediately you can hear birds and crickets and nature sounds. The tent is lovely , comfortable, and has everything you need. For a real splurge, skip cooking altogether and order a hot meal to be delivered to your campsite. I did, and it was great!

This review can’t fully capture the experience we had. There were so many different things to do and see!
The tent and its amenities were wonderfully well kept and the personal touches provided by the staff (hot water for coffee in the morning, and a detailed tour by the owner) exceeded our expectations.
Thank you Dave and the rest of the residents for making our stay so memorable! We will definitely be returning to see what new additions are made to the property.

This is such a special place! My fiancé proposed to me here, making it all the more special. It was private, cozy, and a great way to connect with nature, especially considering there were adorable pigs, dogs, chickens, and more on site. The host was incredibly kind and accommodating, and really went the extra mile to ensure we were comfortable. We also loved our breakfast from chef Brandi. Highly recommend!! We’ll definitely be back.

David was a really awesome host! Since before we arrived to the site, he was in contact to make sure we didn't get lost! Once we arrived, he gave us a tour around the site and explained some of the history of the site, which we found it really interesting, and we met Chef Brandi while walking around the site! David took us then to the tent area, which was really neat and clean! The tent was much bigger and comfortable than we expected! We use the field kitchen, during the evening and our kids had a blast with the board games and running around the woods! Later at night, the chimenea behind the tent was perfect for some s'mores and family time! In the morning, we had a great breakfast done by Chef Brandi, and honestly, it was amazing! BEST PANCAKES EVER AND FRESH EGGS FROM THEIR OWN CHICKENS!! I highly recommended to get it! After the breakfast, David took us for the Fossil Tour, and it was interesting to see the small fossils found on the site. Our boys were really fascinated with the small shells, and also had a lot of walking along with David's lovely pet, Silly! She also was fun to have around, and our boys loved her! In our second tour, Living with the land, David showed us the different areas around the site, explained how they use the natural resources that are provided by the site, he briefed us about how they recycle rain to help their crops and how they filter rain water. The tour was really interesting and informative! We stayed only for one night, but we're already planning our next visit, hopefully for a full weekend! This is the perfect getaway from the city life, just outside the city! We highly recommend it! It was an awesome and relaxing time! Thank you David & Brandi!

David was a perfect host, upon our arrival he gave us a small tour of the facilities providing some background and information about the campsite and the area in general, it’s in a nature preserve. My partner and I were able to explore and have time to ourselves the entire stay. The tent and the area surrounding was perfect for low maintenance camping / getaway. We were able to just focus on having a nice quiet time hanging out by the fire. What else do you need?

This was my first camping trip with just myself and my two, young daughters and we could not have imagined a better time. The tent was exquisite, amenities fabulous, and the eco-village charming. I recommend booking all the tours and the home-cooked meals. David was a great host. Do not be put off my the cranky reviews from people who did not want to be around other campers or the occasional courses they run there. It's really not intrusive and the whole vibe is very conscious and gentle.

We booked a stay in the glamping tent for my husbands birthday last minute and it was even better than expected! Our three young kids all loved the experience and couldn’t stop talking about the amazing breakfast. We had zero issues and lucky enough to be the only family on site during our stay. The compost toilets were easy to use, the kids even got involved in helping to cook dinner outside in the community kitchen and washing dishes. It was a nice treat to enjoy the surprise s’mores over the fire to end our night. This was our first time using Hipcamp and can’t wait to return to this place and try the fossil digging experience. We highly recommend the add-ons and look forward to the new ones coming in the future!
