Welcome to the Cibolo Gardens Nature Preserve! Just 22 miles from downtown San Antonio, not far off of US 281, our educational homestead is a unique place to treat yourself to a night or two of glamorous camping and pampering.
There is such a strong need right now for people to get out of the house to unwind and do so responsibly. Spending time outside in a natural, safe environment is one of the best ways and we offer a comfortable, beautiful space for that. Covid19 has presented a challenge for all of us in becoming hyper-aware of the need for doing everything we can to stop the spread of the Cornavirus. We are vigilant about sanitizing surfaces and having guest guidelines for safe-distancing while staying with us. We're also confident that you'll feel comfortable with our safety measures while you forget the world for a while and lose yourself in the sunsets, the woods and with Chef Brandi's meals.
Our 19 foot diameter, 11 foot tall and luxuriously-furnished bell tent is just what you want to have the comforts of a resort while nestled in our south woods watching your own private sunset. During cold nights, there's no getting cold in this tent! We have a deluxe Olympian Wave propane heater to keep you warm during the fall/ winter season. Bring your own food if you like, but we recommend the "pampered program" with Chef Brandi's gourmet breakfasts. (Her pancakes are absolutely amazing.) The tent itself is all yours with a queen-sized bed that sleeps two, a futon couch (that folds out into a bed if you have one or two additional guests), cedar chest coffee table, rocking chair, a solar-charged battery for lights/ fans/ phone charging, a full refreshment oasis with fresh water and coffee/ tea service. Plus - a back patio with your own personal chiminea for enjoying the warmth of the fire and cooking your complimentary s'mores.
When you arrive, you'll be welcomed by our Host, given a quick tour and then escorted to your bell tent where we invite you take a little time to settle in. If you've ordered breakfast for the following morning, let us know what time you'd like Chef Brandi to bring it to your tent. You can prepare the food you brought with you anytime in our outdoor community kitchen. [We do ask that you please plan on checking in before 8pm or sunset, whichever comes first.]
Your canvas tent is a very short walk to all of our amenities, including the compost toilet, outdoor cob shower, filtered rain water stations (for drinking), outdoor kitchen (with full sink, propane stove/ oven/ grill, prep tables, utensils and pots/ pans), swimming pool, hammocks and classroom (where we invite you to enjoy our library, board games and WiFi). Additionally, there are multiple potable (drinking safe) well-water stations throughout the property.
While at Cibolo Gardens, up near the campground area, you are likely to see our multiple gardens, a chicken or two cluck by, rabbits, pigs, ducks, our two dogs and the cat. When you venture into the Nature Preserve, you'll want to look for deer, armadillo, porcupine, opossum, wild pigs and any number of birds (including our Grey Herron). Also, be on the lookout for spectacular sunsets.
Feel free to simply relax in the shade of the persimmon and juniper trees. Or, to add some activity to your stay, hike the varying terrain on our 45 acres, hunt for fossils in the dry creek bed, break out your tree & plant id books, or watch the wildlife (even if it’s just the chickens). Refresh by taking a dip in the above ground pool, or wash off in the outdoor cob shower. [Please be advised that besides campers, we also host homesteading, wilderness survival & herbal medicine classes on our site. So, there may be some company in some of the community areas, but you'll definitely have your own space for privacy. ]
By the way - if you'd rather bring your own tent, check out our other Camping listing on hipcamp - "Cibolo Gardens Nature Preserve".
If you want to explore more Hill Country, nearby attractions for outdoor fun include the Guadalupe River State Park (16mi) or Natural Bridge Cavern (17mi).

Everyone is so kind and accommodating at Glowing Tents and Condiments! The tents are stocked with everything you need, so no need to worry if you forgot something. Chef Brandi’s breakfast is a must - they’ll bring it to you fresh in the morning. If you’re looking for a nice getaway for a night or two I would definitely recommend this place!

Very cool camping setup with options for glamping and regular camping. After a long drive with young kids, it's nice to come to a campsite with so much ready to go - the tent, bed, field kitchen, table & chairs...etc. David was also a great host and tour guide.
We loved the whole site, it super nice and very welcoming, their dogs were so cute and nice, would love to go again

Thank you for the review, Nichole! It was a pleasure having you here.
Very friendly host. All amenities you could wish for without sacrificing the feeling of being truly in the wilderness. Will be back for sure.

Thanks for the review James! It was a pleasure having you stay with us. See you soon.
The complex was really neat and had some amenities that I didn't expect like the field kitchen and wood fire pizza oven. We did feel like lots of lots of clutter, mess, and work materials are just laying around all over the place and at times looks like a junkyard or abandoned commune. I understand they're doing work constantly to improve the amenities themselves, but there has to be a better way of hiding the subsequent mess. Overall, the tent itself was great and we enjoyed the breakfast. Hot tub never got warm for us after the first visitors who got in that night, but we did get a refund for that. Overall, we enjoyed it.

Hi Erica - thank you for the constructive feedback and for the compliments. We certainly wish we could have exceeded your expectations, which is our normal protocol. Our efforts to improve the amenities with our new spa (which, thanks to you, we know better now how to keep it consistently hot for our guests) and added cob Moon shower unfortunately means that we do have some construction materials nearby. We do try to keep them organized and out-of-view as much as possible in the common areas where Campers and Glampers explore and will try to do even better at that. We were also happy to share a glimpse at our permanent resident community portion of the property and our plans for installing underground electric and plumbing in the trenches we've opened up for that purpose...and right now, yes, our little village looks a mess while that's going on. Hopefully, you can come back to enjoy the fruits of our labor next year with the completed two-shower/ bath house with changing rooms and then let us give you a tour of our renovated private resident homestead :). Meanwhile, again, thank you for your coming to stay with us and for your feedback.
Mother - daughter weekend bonding
This was my second visit. I opted to try the glamping tent with my daughter and it was very nice not having to set up a tent. David thought of everything you would need to have an enjoyable stay! We also utilized the outdoor Field kitchen which had all the necessities in preparing our meal. We took part in the wonderful hot tub and Chef Brandi’s amazing breakfast. I will definitely be back again and again and again…….

Michaelle - thank you for the awesome review! We enjoyed having you both stay with us and look forward to your return :)
We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Glowing Tents! This was our first camping trip and we felt very comfortable. David was very accommodating and made this whole experience very fun for me and my family. We can't wait to be back!

Thanks for the review, Vanessa. We sure enjoyed having you here and hope you come back soon.
My girlfriend and I love to camp, but have been too busy lately to plan/pack for a camping trip. So when I came across David’s listing we decided to give our first glamping experience a go.
David and Ayla were very friendly and welcoming from the get-go, and made sure we knew where everything we needed was before setting us up in our glamping tent.
The tent itself was nicely outfitted with everything you’d need for a camping trip, so all we had to do was drop our bags and enjoy!
We brought a few items for preparing dinner, but really didn’t need them as the kitchen had plenty of cookware/spices to make use of. The last night we had dinner at the nearby Mexican restaurant Mariscos Del Paisa (per David’s recommendation), and it was fantastic! Delicious ceviche, tacos, and micheladas. We ordered the additional breakfast offering (prepared by chef Brandi) on both mornings, which was a great choice. Waking up to delicious farm fresh eggs, pancakes, and quiche right outside our tent was wonderful!
On our final morning we took the Living With The Land tour given by David, and it was very informative. He covered several concepts of sustainable living, and showed their implementations in the various projects they have on the property. We’re going to try creating one of the gardens he showed us at our own home!
In the end we were sad to go and could have happily stayed another week if we’d had the time. I would definitely recommend a stay here if you’re thinking about it - we’ll certainly be back!

Landon - thank you for such a nice review. We look forward to you coming back :)
Glamping at Cibolo Nature Preserve was everything we thought it would be for our family of 4 with two small kids. It was so nice to not need a ton of gear to enjoy some outdoor time so close to San Antonio where we live. The glamping tent as well as the community areas had such thoughtful touches that made everything enjoyable and super convenient for a one night getaway. We also ordered Chef Brandi's breakfast which added a cherry on top to our glamping experience. We felt so pampered having hot coffee, orange juice, pancakes, fresh fruit, and eggs to start the day. We also enjoyed taking a tour with Cris. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about sustainability and homesteading that we wish we had more time to hang out and learn more. There is a lot of magic and cool potential in many of the projects they're working on at Cibolo Gardens and Nature Preserve. The property is a former rock quarry that is being rewilded from the deforestation and erosion that took its toll over the years, and it lies right in the middle of the accelerated development in the hill country, so places like this, close to the city, are rare gems and disappearing quickly. We are looking forward to escaping the city again and indulging in another glamping experience.

Alexis - thank you for such a nice review! Cris had such good things to say about your family and we look forward to you coming back to see us again.
