Best in Texas: Finalist
Named one of the best Hipcamps to visit in 2024.
Where the short-grass prairie drops into the Red River Valley, the 4R Ranch—with its magnificent vistas and rocky terrain—is perfectly suited for growing grapes. Patriarch W.C. Roper encouraged his family of sixth-generation Texans to share the beauty of this extraordinary place with others; and so it was love of this man and love of the land that inspired 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery. Chinquapin oaks, white-tailed deer, the endangered black-capped vireo, and the occasional Rio Grande turkey inhabit this incredible property. Powered by sun, earth and wind, 4R Ranch Vineyards & Winery calls us all to slow our pace, enjoy the view, and sip a glass of wine in the magnificent Red River Valley.

Want a weekend of camping, while still having access to award-winning wine?  Book a stay at our 4R Campsite. PLEASE NOTE:  FIRST:  Because all campsites within a listing have to be priced the same on HipCamp, we created four separate campsite listings: (1) the original tent camping listing; (2) the VIP Top-O’-the-Ridge listing; (3) the West-of-the-Creek dispersed campsite listing; and (4) the RV listing. YOU ARE CURRENTLY VIEWING THE WEST-OF-CREEK DISPERSED CAMPSITE LISTING, so you may want to go back to the main HIpCamp menu and search for "4R Ranch" to see out our other listings. SECOND:  Navigate to the campsite page at 4rwines.com and download our very detailed Camping Info Booklet (in PDF), which contains maps, campsite descriptions, and frequently asked questions sections.  THE WEST-OF-CREEK DISPERSED CAMPSITE is a 10 acre field just to the west of a creek with scattered trees. Unlike our other 3 listings (main campsite, rv campsite, and VIP campsite) we are offering this area to allow loosely affiliated larger groups -- like members of Spinistry -- to stay and pick how near or far they set up camp from others. It is relatively flat. If you are wanting to make sure you are distant from other campers, you may want to look at the other 4R listings.

Campers should know that Sites #10 and 11 are very close to the shower shed, the toilet shed, electrical outlets and (nonpotable) water spigots.  Firewood is free, and can be found in two locations: (1) under a shed roof attached to the toilet shed; and (2) in a large cage located in the large area designated as campsites 2, 3, and 4.  Our mountain biking and hiking trail is now open.  Map available at our website.

YOU ARE CURRENTLY VIEWING THE VIP TOP-O'-THE-RIDGE CAMPSITE LISTING, so you may want to go back to the main HIpCamp menu and search for "4R Ranch" to see out our other listings. SECOND:  Navigate to the campsite page at 4rwines.com and download our very detailed Camping Info Booklet (in PDF), which contains maps, campsite descriptions, and frequently asked questions sections.  THE VIP TOP-O'-THE-RIDGE CAMPSITE is on the shoulder of a Hogback Ridge, and features 270 degree views of the Red River Valley. The view simply can't be beat. Campers park at our 4R WindShed Wine Tasting Room parking lot and hike a short ways to get to the beautiful campsite. This is a two minute walk from the tasting room and our Camo Cafe. Moreover, this campsite is right at the entrance to our Brambles mountain bike trail.  IMPORTANT:  Campers cannot drive their vehicles to this campsite.  Therefore, this is not the campsite for campers who have teardrop trailers, rooftop tents, etc. Also bear in mind:  There is no toilet and no shower except during the times that the tasting room is open (see winery website at 4rwines.com for hours). However, this campsite is just a few minute's drive from the main campsite entrance, where we have showers and a toilet. To get to this campsite from the 4R front gate, follow the signs to the winery tasting room.  Park at the tasting room parking lot.  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE TO THIS CAMPSITE.  Walk out on the front lawn of the tasting room and look for the steps that are on the north corner of the lawn.  Walk down those steps and you will see the sign for the mountain bike trailhead.  Rather than turning left onto the trail, walk past that sign up the mountain bike trail to the north and in 200 feet or so you will come to an opening on the shoulder of the ridge, and you will find the campsite with the fire ring.

Many reviews highlight the friendly and accommodating hosts, making the stay even more delightful. However, some visitors noted issues like limited privacy during busy times and occasional maintenance concerns with the restrooms.

The campsites were beautiful. Ours was very isolated which is what we wanted. The wine we got was fantastic as well. We will definitely go back.

Great/Beautiful property highly recommend! Was a very nice site, pretty good spacing between sites, but be aware (as outlined on site) if it’s a busy time there’s not much privacy at this location- if that’s important to you. Had next to zero cell service from Verizon but ATT was fine.

Just went camping at 4R Hipcamp and it was phenomenal! Beautiful… rolling hills, creeks and the campsites were plentiful. Most of all, it was peaceful. This campsite does provide showers and a toilet, but come prepared. We slept under a big oak tree and couldn’t have asked for a better spot. Highly recommend!
