Sleepy Bear cabin was built as a retreat for my father here in Alaska. Our 1st year listed on Hipcamp our cabin came in second in best places to stay in Alaska with Hipcamp. The last 2 years we were still mentioned in the top 10 with some pretty stiff competition.
Eagle River South Fork trail with stunning views of Eagle and Symphony lakes is a short bike ride away.
Breathtaking Barbara Falls is in our valley 10mins away. You hike up to the falls and feels its breath.

It was a nice place. Very quiet and relaxing. The view from the deck was perfect. The only thing I’d recommend is maybe adding a sign or something similar at the end of the driveway so it stands out a bit. It took me a few minutes to find it.

We loved the cozy cabin, the wood fired cook stove, the beautiful river right next to it, and all of the very helpful kind staff, would stay there again and again if we could! Sauna was an especially nice feature after rafting six mile river. No running water or working stove other than wood fired one, be ready to go back in time a bit, but everything you need is just over the bridge at the main cafe building

We had a great time! It was a much needed relaxed night. The hosts were communicating well and allowed us to check in early even though we ended up not needing to, because we kept stopping for photos on our trip. This place had great hot water and amenities! Would def stay here again.

Weekend Trip to Darell B.’s Magical Mountain
We were absolutely thrilled with Darell’s cabin. It was so cute and cozy with everything needed to make for a comfortable stay. It has a great view and the hosts are incredibly accommodating. They allowed us to use their personal grill when we arrived because the city had a burn ban put into effect the day we arrived and we couldn’t cook over the fire pit. They also allow dogs and even put a towel to dry our lab off with before we brought her inside. We will definitely be returning in the future.

When I pitched an Alaskan honeymoon to my fiancé later that day, I was relieved that he was on board. The Glacier Breeze cabin was easy to find, impeccably clean and very homey. Chris and Karen are five star hosts! They think of everything, so you don't have to. From customized weather reports, to local events, wildlife updates and northern lights forecasts, they leave no stone unturned. We will be back!

The Aurora Cabin was so very lovely! There were so many more accommodations than we had anticipated and were so appreciative!! All of the features were super easy to navigate and the host was responsive when we thought we needed help. The temperature was super intuitive with the gas fire place. Even the outhouse amazed! Didn’t smell bad all weekend. Would even go so far as to say it smelled lovely! We got great use out of the fire pit as well- and the provided blankets for the fire! Lovely property, great stay- would come back again!

The cabin is perfect and has everything you need for a temporary home base. The surroundings are absolutely stunningly beautiful and there are plenty of trails for hiking and skiing. Hey... We have been "camping here at Eklutna" since the first week in May, 2018. We expect to move on this next Sunday, 30 Sept 2018--it's been a wonderful Spring, Summer and Fall. There were NO leaves on the trees when we move in--there was still SNOW on the ground in many places within the campground! Summer came in June, and last Sunday, the 23rd of September was the busiest day ever! Every parking lot and campground site was filled with campers, hikers, lovers holding hands, moose and bear hunters, ATVers, and folks just enjoying the beautiful Alaska Fall colors. What can I say? We will miss Eklutna, the people we worked with & so many others that we got to know as Volunteer Campground Hosts; photos may fade, but memories REMAIN!

What's not to love about Eklutna! The views at the water's edge are beautiful. The teal glacial water is stunning. On a warmer day you'll see folks kayaking, throwing sticks for their dogs, and relaxing lake side. If you head up Twin Peaks trail, there's a bench which overlooks the lake. Keep heading up and eventually you'll get to the peak for an incredible view which stretches the length of the 13 mile lake. You may even possibly find yourself amidst some mountain sheep. We were up there this past Memorial Day weekend and saw a bear run down the mountains into some brush. As for the campsite, it's a great location. A stones throw away, opposite side of some trees which is great protection from the glacial winds. A must visit!

This was actually such a cool camp site. I visited with a group of 10 and we were able to pitch our tents and still have room to toss a frisbee and gather in a circle for dinner. The river is absolutely incredible and adds such a nice feel. We were even able to safely view some bears nearby with a state trouper and the campground manager close by - such a great experience! Eagle River Campground is for sure the place to be :)
