While having a 4WD vehicle can be beneficial for exploring some parts of Nitmiluk National Park, it is not strictly necessary. Many of the main attractions, including Katherine Gorge, Edith Falls, and the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre, are accessible by 2WD vehicles on sealed roads. However, if you plan to venture off the beaten path and explore some of the more remote areas of the park, such as the Jatbula Trail or the unsealed roads leading to Leliyn (Edith Falls) or the Southern Walks, a 4WD vehicle is recommended. Keep in mind that during the wet season (November to April), some roads may become impassable due to flooding or muddy conditions, so it is important to check local road conditions and weather forecasts before your trip.
