Was quite a treat. Despite not having a bathhouse with toilets and showers, the portajohn was well kept and checked on/cleaned each day by Lisa. We did show up on a saturday which ended up meaning after the first night we had the entire campground to ourselves. Don't get ahead of yourself though.. although that was very nice being the only ones there which made it possible for my dog to just freely roam and explore; it got a little spooky if you aren't used to the country life which comes with all the wildlife it offers. Packs of coyotes each afternoon/night, waterfowl wildlife sounds, etc. All in all, i enjoyed it as well as my maybe future wife (who knows, she is a yuppy at the end of the day). Lisa was amazing, place was very relaxing and peaceful. Would recommend to give this lovely place a shot.
Beautiful, clean, quiet camping
We stayed 3 nights in our pop up camper at this beautiful campground. The campground is super clean & quiet with large campsites complete with nice picnic tables, fire rings & trashcan. There are also several community charcoal grills available for use. The campsites are all either directly on river or have a direct access. There is no electricity or water hookups but there are 2 water hand pumps & 2 extremely clean portajohns. There is a really nice sandy beach for hanging out in the sun & kayak/canoe launching. The black river is a natural beauty! We are very much looking forward to returning in the spring!
First time campers
We live in North Carolina but needed to get away for a night, this was only an hour away from us. The campsites were clean and clearly marked. A picnic table, fire pit and trash can are provided. There was enough room for 4 tents if needed but we only had one. Plenty of firewood to forage for and you are maybe 15ft from the water. We were able to drive down to the launch and take our kayaks out around the river. Very enjoyable. We were also able to fish from multiple locations, I saw a couple catch a catfish, my husband caught a Gar and I Calicut large mouth bass!! Highly recommend and we will be coming back!
Excellent october stay
Our All girl BSA Troop camped at the Black River with Lisa in October 2021. We were there with two other all-girl boyscout troops and we had an amazing time canoeing and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The sites were spacious, clean and well maintained. Portable bathrooms were also very clean. We will definitely be coming back.
