Folklore Village – Culture, Community, and the Beauty of the Driftless Folklore Village is a one-of-a-kind cultural and natural retreat set on 94 acres of rolling hills, including 66 acres of restored prairie and oak savanna, in the heart of Wisconsin’s Driftless Region. Founded in 1966 by American folk dance and recreation leader Jane Farwell, the property is home to historic and modern gathering spaces, including Farwell Hall, the Plum Grove Chapel, the Wakefield Schoolhouse, rustic bunkhouses, the Rosebud Retreat glamper, and the ongoing restoration of the Aslak Lie House, one of the oldest Norwegian-American homes in Wisconsin. Our grounds offer visitors a peaceful rural escape with plenty to explore. Walking trails wind through prairie and woodland, where birdwatchers delight in spotting native and migratory species, and nature lovers can discover a rich biodiversity of wildflowers, grasses, and native plants. Starry skies at night invite quiet reflection. Throughout the year, Folklore Village hosts cultural events, concerts, festivals, workshops, and dances, making it both a vibrant community center and a serene getaway with easy access to Dodgeville, Spring Green, Mineral Point, and the scenic Driftless backroads. Folklore Village is more than just a place to stay. It is a living tradition of music, dance, craft, and community. Whether you join us for an event, rent the space for a celebration, or simply enjoy the quiet of the countryside, you will be part of a place that cherishes heritage, culture, and the natural world.Tucked among fruit trees and tallgrass prairie at Folklore Village, the Rosebud Retreat is a lovingly restored 1966 Manorette camper.
