It was so private and quiet! We had just travelled for several days to get up North and this was our resting spot on our way to the Gunflint Trail. The hay field had just been mowed and we enoyed watching the day turn to night with a beautiful sunset.

Great camping spot! We loved the place for the tent tucked just into the trees and the perfect spot for our two hammocks. And the open fields were awesome for stargazing! Chad was very friendly and helpful and was readily available if we needed anything.

What an incredible experience! This site is serene, completely surrounded by birch forests. Nice trails throughout to the Cranberry River and to the facilities which were clean and well maintained. The shower was quite brisk but appropriate. So many things to do within a 30-minute drive from hiking along sea caves and mountain biking trails, waterfalls and quaint little towns, and friendly, eager to assist people at every turn. Spent 4 nights here and can’t wait to do it again next year! I’m hooked.

We loved camping here, it was our home-base while exploring the area and the Apostle Islands lakeshore, but almost didn’t want to leave the site! Very friendly and helpful host with good local recommendations, beautiful open space, lovely sounds of nothing but nature, convenient location. We hope to come back!

My fiance and i loved this site tucked in a corner of a field. There is a short walk down to the creek where we spent most of our time looking for agates. Such a gorgeous spot and property!

We had a wonderful experience. Overall, we were very impressed with the beauty of the property and the privacy of this campsite location. It was well maintained and clean. The trails on the land were fun to walk and easy to navigate. The night sky was our favorite part of our stay! Its beauty was incredible and we saw several shooting stars each night. It was a romantic experience around the campfire. Chad and Alissa were wonderful hosts and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. They did great at communicating before and during our stay. When we first arrived, Chad helped us transport our camping supplies to the site. Amenities like a compost toilet and an outdoor shower made a huge difference! In addition, the property was a convenient 35 minute drive outside of Bayfield. We would recommend this location to anyone and plan on returning again.

I enjoyed the secluded camping which is so different from the other campgrounds nearby. Next time, I would bring a bulk water container and fill it at the Cornucopia well by the beach.

I had a great night on Chad and Alissa’s land! They are super helpful and communicative with directions and any needs you may have. The property is lovely with lots of space making it seem very private and quiet. I would highly recommend this spot if you are up this way and looking to relax and unwind!

middle of nowhere made for BEAUTIFUL stars!!! easy to find, so much land. grill, table, outhouse to use. open WI land made it a bit colder than if there were trees, but not unbearable if you're prepared. very kind folk!

We LOVED this site. Very private and absolutely gorgeous. It looked like the set of Midsommar (minus all the scary stuff). The site had a fire pit, a table and four chairs, and a hammock. There was a grassy spot or a spot in the woods for your tent. Chad was so friendly and communicative; he gave us many good suggestions for beaches and hikes! Wood was available for purchase on-site -- cash or Venmo. Car parking was a short walk away. One thing to note is the composting toilet was a bit of a walk away (a bit under a half-mile). In Herbster, there are flush toilets and a water fountain where you can refill your water bottles in the community center. Overall, we can't wait for our next visit to the south shore. This one is an undiscovered gem!

River tent site 1
Such a special place tucked away from the distractions of life. We found our quite place to pitch our tent with great conversations with wonderful people. A creek to explore and relax by and beautiful fields returning to meadow are lined with stands of trees. The only sounds were those of the crickets, frogs, and whisperings of the breeze through trees and grasses. We’ll be back!

We have hipcamped from Connecticut to California and back. We've stayed in a *lot* of different hipcamp sites, some wonderful, some not so much.
This is one of the TOP two or three sites we stayed at. Here's why:
*The hosts are incredibly communicative, friendly, and made sure we were well set up (even covered some firewood for us in case it rained).
*The site is *beautiful*. A large meadow, surrounded by woodland. Private and open and peaceful. You really feel away from the world.
*The site is impressively well maintained. Mowed, clean, and well kept. They not only have a clean, new, and functional outhouse (if an outhouse can be cute and charming.... this is it) and a great cool water outdoor shower, but both are well appointed (a screened window in the outhouse, hooks and whatnot in the shower, etc). It's clear that thoughtful design went into these.
There are butterflies and wildflowers. And the RV site (which we tent camped at) has a seriously great fire pit. One of the best solo-campsite fire pits we've used.
All in all.... It was wonderful. I hope we find an excuse to come back this way. We would definitely stay here again and again.

We stayed for two nights at the beginning of August and had a wonderful time. The pictures don’t do it justice, it is at the edge of a huge field dotted with trees and walking paths and you feel as if you’re in the middle of a park. Our site had plenty of room for tents along with a table and fire ring. There’s a composting toilet and solar shower a few minutes walk away. Site is about 20 mins from Meyers Beach and about 45 from Bayfield.
Chad introduced himself after I texted that we had arrived and gave some useful area tips. He sold firewood on site as well (Venmo for payment). Very quiet at night. We would definitely stay here again - much nicer than a typical campground!

Our group had such a lovely time at Chad and Alissa’s site, definitely would recommend! Chad was friendly, personable and very accommodating. The space is close to some of Wisconsin’s most beautiful places, but far enough away that the campsites are secluded and you will have your own space to enjoy. Our site was well maintained and very, very spacious (our dogs were even bigger fans than we were, and that says a lot) On site there is a single compost toilet and gravity shower, both nice amenities to have. Truly a beautiful space, thanks for sharing it!

Along the field, through the wood and over the hill to a wonderfully peaceful and delightful stay at Chad and Alissa’s!
I stayed 5 nights at camp sight 1 and with Chad and Alissa’s open and easy communication, my stay was quite smooth. They were the sweetest hosts; giving me directions to a nearby beach after I arrived and then gifting me campfire wood after a little mix up (which was completely my fault!) in apologies!

What a peaceful and lovely site!! Our host, Chad, greeted us and helped us in. Beautiful field for my dogs to run in. They had a blast. So peaceful and quiet and very out of the way. I would visit here again anytime!

Our family of five had a wonderful experience at Chad and Aly's beautiful property! The site is tucked up against a lush forest and overlooking a rolling grassy Meadow. The outdoor shower and biffy are great amenities to have! Chad was very helpful getting us settled in and acquainted with the area. We had a very Relaxing time and would high recommend this gem!

The camp site was beautiful! It was the perfect "home base" as we explored the area. We really enjoyed the privacy and walking the trail. My only complaint was that the shower was cold, but we survived it. ☺️

We had reserved tent site 1, but when we arrived Chad offered us the RV site just in case we didn't want to haul our gear. Since we had just completed a 3 day kayak trip to the Apostle Islands, we were tired and ended up camping the RV site just beyond the gate.
We walked the property and immediately noticed how every aspect of the campers stay has been thought out and creatively addressed, from a gravity fed shower, to meandering mowed paths, to rope "rails" to the stream, to sitting areas, to fire rings and BBQ pits. All three of the sites are private, secluded and quiet. The night skies are free of light pollution, the land is free of noise pollution and nature abounds.
Chad and Alyssa communicate promptly and are very responsive. Since there was a fire ban Chad refunded our money for wood that I had paid for when I made the reservation.
Also, the location of the property is under a 10 minute drive to Herbster public beach.
I will definitely stay again.

We booked River Tent site 1. When we arrived, we checked it out, and it was beautiful - but a long walk to bring our gear for a single night when we were leaving early the next morning. (The hosts provide a wheelbarrow to cart gear, which is a HUGE help.) The hosts kindly agreed to let us use the tent site nearest to the gate for easy departure. I recommend tent site 1. Just plan for the beautiful walk to your site with all your gear. :)

Directions to the site were spot on. It was private, quiet and really pretty. The sun canopy over the picnic table was a nice touch. Chad was super friendly and helped us out with everything from dinner reservations to a great beach. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
