Want the off-grid feeling without giving up all the comforts of home? Come stay at our little retired DNR Fire Watch Cabin in Trout Lake, WA, tucked right at the foot of Mt. Adams. The cabin sleeps up to 2 adults and 2 kids, with a queen bed and a fold-out cot tucked underneath. It's true off-grid, with solar and battery lights and propane heat, but you're not totally roughing it. Just a short walk to the barn you'll find a full bathroom with shower and a kitchenette (fridge, microwave, coffee pot, air fryer), reserved just for cabin guests. There's a porta-potty right next to the cabin too, so no midnight walks to the barn. We provide all linens and towels and can set you up with some basic cooking utensils if you need. If you need to get some work done while you're here, we have Starlink and reliable Wi-Fi. There's a barbecue right outside your cabin for your use, plus a fire pit (campfires welcome whenever there's no burn ban - we are in one right now Aug-Sept). This is an off grid cabin, and thus there is no AC. We have installed screens on the windows so they all can be opened, but it can It can get quite warm there when it gets into the 80s. Please consider this when making your booking during higher temperature seasons. You're not just near the outdoors here. You're at the front door of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, 1.3 million acres of old-growth forest, alpine lakes, lava tubes, and glaciers wrapped around Mt. Adams. Here's what that looks like season to season from our front yard: Summer: Prime time in the forest. Hike, swim, fish, and mountain bike; the Sleeping Beauty trail is minutes away for a big-view climb. Cool off in the Guler Ice Caves, a 2,000-foot lava tube where you can wander past frozen stalactites and stalagmites even in the heat of summer, or explore the neighboring Cheese Caves, an old natural cheese cellar you climb down into. Chase the reflection shot at Takhlakh Lake, where crystal-clear water mirrors Mt. Adams, or spend a day at Goose Lake and Council Lake. For the ambitious, Mt. Adams offers sport climbing routes and the South Climb up the glaciated summit, one of the most iconic experiences in the whole forest. And you're still just 30 minutes from White Salmon and Hood River for wineries when you want a break from the trail. Fall: My favorite season. Unbeatable colors through the forest, the Hood River fishery has been on fire lately, and it's a beautiful, quiet time to wander the backcountry as the crowds thin out. Winter: A snow playground. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing straight into the national forest, plus we're sled-friendly: ample parking for snowmobile trailers and a shop where you can wrench on your sleds. Or just bring a good book and hibernate. Spring: Gorgeous up here, and turkey season is a favorite. Wildflower meadows start opening up in the high country, and there's room for boats and trailers if you're headed to Drano Lake (about 30 min) for springer salmon. If you like exploring, the Big Lava Bed, a 12,500-acre crater of crevasses, small caves, and rock formations, is a wild, otherworldly day trip about 40 minutes out from us. If you are coming up to Mount Adams or Gifford Pinchot to mountain bike or ride dirt bikes, we do have an adjacent workshop and a full set of tools. If you need to wrench on those or your snowmobiles in the winter, let us know in advance and we can arrange access to the workshop for you. We can arrange rentals of e-mountain bikes if you wish. Bbq, fridge, freezer. The kitchenette is a short walk from the cabin to the barn. There's an air fryer, microwave, fridge, freezer, outlets for charging your devices. A full shower and toilet exclusively for cabin guests. We also have a small propane camp cooktop which you can use adjacent to the cabin in the outside area if you need.

For hospitality alone 10/10. James made sure we were taken care of. Such a tranquil and quiet spot, can’t remember the last time I slept so soundly away from home. Great as a homebase for exploring the surrounding area, or focusing on a project, book, etc with no distractions. Can’t wait to come back!

We had the absolute best birthday weekend. James is an amazing host. He really went above & beyond running power out to the cabin so I could use my CPAP machine. There was even a turn table hooked up to a battery so we could listen to music on vinyl! And the stars at night were beautiful. Thank you James!!

Nice little rustic cabin to stay in while enjoying all the local recreation. Has everything you need. James is awesome. Wanted to make sure we had all we needed and that we had our privacy. Great place to stay and he has plans to make it even better.

Great Glamping Spot!

We had a great getaway on Amy’s property. The quaint cabin was adorable and close to many hiking trails. We and our 2 dogs loved watching the wildlife (deer, lizards, turkey and hawks) as well as the horses across the street and cows behind the property. Wonderful stargazing at night. Very comfortable bed nice bathroom facilities a short walk from the cabin. Thank you for sharing your space with us!

Great glamping experience! Had everything we needed! We stayed during early summer time, but would love to come check it out during the winter time! Cozy spot with great amenities! Host was helpful and friendly! Got to say hi to the cows too! I also popped the question here and it was a beautiful experience. She loved it!

Lovely, well-equipped spot

The cabin is off to the side of the front of the property along a quiet country road, wedged between cow pastures and hilly ridges with trees and elk. The setup exceeded our expectations - warm, comfy, plenty of space, a gas stove for heat and a camp stove for cooking. Getting to hiking is close but not necessarily walkable - Trout Lake town with the ranger station for the National Park is a 10 min drive. Fridge and bathroom with shower a short walk from the cabin are a bonus. It’d be fun to visit again in spring or autumn.

The cabin was incredibly cozy. Even though it was below freezing outside for most of our trip the heater and blankets kept us super warm inside. Waking up to the cows and the mountains always felt amazing, and at night if the sky was clear so many stars were visible.

If being off grid isnt your cup of tea then this cabin probably isnt for you but we love it. One of our favoright things about staying here is that there is very little to no cell service and wifi only if you want to hook up to it. We love being off grid and having quality family time to interact with eachother with out the distractions of cell phones or tv. No power no problem for us! This is our favoright family get away spot by far.

Such a cute little cabin! We stayed nice and warm and enjoyed an evening by the fire and cuddling in the comfortable bed. Views of the mountain and stars are incredible!

Absolutely stunning place to stay with tons to do close by. The cabin is extremely cozy and the place is completely secluded. We felt like we were the only ones there. The cabin and the bathroom/kitchen area was clean and stocked with the essentials (plates, fridge/freezer, shower, portable generator for the cabin, lamps, bbq and more). We caught a thunder storm on the last night of our stay and it was so relaxing. We’re excited to come back in the winter when it is snowing.

Overall we had a positive experience- the host had lots of things to make the stay enjoyable. It was 30 minutes from mt hood and about 15 away from the ice caves- a must see! Although I would not go again in the summer months because of the cabin having most windows saying “do not open”, one small fan, and no other way of cooling down which made for an uncomfortable stay. The host did provide a portable battery which was very nice, so we had a fan going until it ran outta juice. There were also dogs that would bark at our dog (although had E collars so couldn’t approach us) as well as the hosts house very close to the cabin.

The temp nearly hit 100 during the days I was supposed to stay and only two windows open so the cabin was waaay too hot for me to sleep in by the time I was getting ready to go to bed. No electricity so couldn't plug in a fan. But otherwise it was exactly what I was looking for and would've loved it had it not been for the unusually hot weather.

A new favorite place to stay.

This adorable cabin was perfect for our romantic 33rd anniversary weekend of hiking and huckleberry picking. The bed is soft and comfortable, the cabin is rustic but homey. Comfortable chairs outside and a propane grill that saved us from having to pack our own. There a shower, bathroom and fridge about 25 yards away. A coffee maker, microwave and air fryer are there to use if you want to eat dinner in. Trout Lake is one of our favorite places to visit - we've been coming up every huckleberry season for the past 20 years -- now we have a new favorite place to stay!

What a beautiful place for our family’s first night stay on our Pacific Northwest road trip! My husband, four year old daughter and I were amazed at the breathtaking scenery and perfectly comfortable in this tiny cabin. We arrived late afternoon early August, and the cabin was warm inside but cooled off nicely with the windows open at night. The bathroom and mini kitchen had everything we needed and were just a short walk away. We enjoyed good food and music at Trout Lake Hall, and the stargazing at night was unbelievable. What a special memory for our family. Thank you for sharing this piece of paradise with us, Amy! Our only regret is not staying longer!!

Fantastic!!

Such a beautiful and cozy spot tucked into the mountain. We had gorgeous weather and were lucky enough to enjoy some of the lakes, rivers, and hikes in the area. I can't think of a better way we could have spent our anniversary. We will definitely be coming back!

Very cute cabin, clean and comfortable. Nice bathroom/kitchen area in the separate building. Very comfy bed. Incredible views of Mt Adams through the trees. Also very dark and quiet at night, we saw the milky way for the first time in ages thanks to no light pollution.

We loved our stay at Amy’s Trout Lake cabin. It was the perfect spot to spend a couple nights while we explored the area. So cute and clean! Having access to kitchen appliances and a full bathroom located in the back of their shop was a great addition. Amy’s messages and directions were detailed and included everything. Tried the pizza in town and the White Salmon Baking Co. for breakfast. Both were delicious!! Great location to stay at if you are white water rafting/kayaking on the White Salmon. Can’t wait to come back to the area! Thank you for providing such a wonderful lodging option.

A magical little cabin hidden in the woods like something out of an indie film. Everything was clean, warm, and thoughtfully arranged — from the cozy bed to the perfect grill. The view? Unreal. You open the door and it feels like stepping into a peaceful painting. Quiet, authentic, slightly surreal. I didn’t figure out the electricity switch, but honestly, I didn’t need it — the atmosphere itself had enough energy. This place has soul. 10 out of 10. Would’ve stayed longer if Oregon wasn’t calling me further west. If you’re thinking of booking — don’t hesitate. It’s worth every cent. Like a scene from a story you haven’t written yet

Amy is a 10 star host! My daughter and I had a wonderful weekend at Amy's cabin. Amy has created a charming cabin in a lovely serene setting on her property. The bed was oh so comfortable and warm cozy blankets were available for the cool of the summer mountain evening! The amenities were great with a shower (A+water pressure), indoor flush toilet, coffee maker, and frig/freezer. Amy, Thank you for preserving a small piece of the past with this little cabin and sharing it with us!

Beautiful Mountain cabin!

A very comfortable stay, with thoughtful amenities provided. A hot shower, fridge, and bathroom are provided in a separate building close to the cabin. We tried Mt. Adam’s pizza and loved it!We paid for wood and it was provided. Water is available, bring a water jug to fill up. Amy, the host answered any questions we had. The WiFi is pretty spotty, but there is service closer to the bathroom. The view of Mt. Adam’s is spectacular!

We were on a roadtrip and this little cabin was the perfect stop! We had a campfire, lovely views, a propane stove for food, and a very comfortable bed. We even spotted a calf and his mom spying at us from behind the cabin (there is some agricultural land around the property). A very lovely stay!
