We (2 adults) loved staying in Johnna's vacation cottage in Agnew off the Old Olympic Highway. It was a great place to rest on our PNW roadtrip - and an easy location for visiting friends on Lake Crescent in Olympic NP and in Port Angeles. It was very easy to find the cottage and check in (even after dark on country roads). Our lovely host had left a welcome binder with good instructions and lots of local recommendations, and some snacks too, and it was so nice to have a supply of coffee and tea. Lots of hot water, dishes and cooking implements for making yummy breakfasts with groceries from the Agnew Grocery just down the road. We hope to visit again someday to take advantage of the Olympic Discovery Trail that's practically on their front door! We would highly recommend this stay!

Our stay was marked by a considerable amount of rain, but otherwise was a very pleasant little spot. The provided chairs, picnic table, fire pit and wood were a nice touch, though I would recommend bringing a small bundle of dry kindling yourself as the provided rounds are quite big and may be damp on the exterior; they burn well and long, however, and make for a great cooking fire on the pit. The port-a-potty was exceptionally clean and had giant native banana slug hangin’ out to keep you company! He was in no way intrusive and gone the next day. A cute little creek separates the hosts land from the site on the west edge, and a fence from the neighbor on the right. On a cabin-strewn lake like this one it gives as much seclusion as could be expected, but the amenities are plentiful and the scenery gorgeous. The water was warmer than the September air, very swimmable. We had brought a canoe but the steep path to the entry discouraged us from hauling it down. Next time we would try to take advantage of the host’s offer to borrow their craft. All in all, clean, tidy, cozy, and beautiful enough for an enjoyable stay.

A great camp! The host was there when we arrived and welcomed us and gave us a quick orientation, then left us alone. He offered additional chairs so we could all sit around the fire ring, told us we were welcome to use a huge pile of seasoned firewood, and even chopped kindling for us. The site is lovely, the swimming great -- surprisingly warm for WA. Not just a campsite, but a destination.

lovely site, clean, on active lake. Clean facilities, quiet neighbors. Nice view right on lake— we got a swim in our to the float. Fire and lots of wood was a great treat. Felt restful and clean. It is part of a lake camp so don’t expect to be completely private—

Our party of 4 adults and a 10-year-old really enjoyed our night on the lake. We were on a weekend bike-packing trip along the Olympic Discovery Trail and wanted confirmed camping with a child along. This spot let us camp right on the lake with direct access to swimming, a stream to pump water, picnic table and a well supplied fire pit. The host met us there and then let us have our space. Camping is level, and as noted, down a steep slope from the toilet, although we were able to bring our bikes down and up without too much difficulty. The lake was busy during daylight hours with motorized water traffic, but quiet overnight. This is our first Hipcamp experience and won't be our last.

This is an absolutely stunning corner of the world. The camp site was spacious, water incredibly inviting for swimming, and the surrounding forest magical. We very much appreciated the bounty of firewood that kept us warm throughout the evening. Johnna was incredibly helpful and kind. Thank you for the very special experience!

This was a really lovely site! Right on the water with a little sandy/silty shore so you can wake up and go for a dip, have breakfast at the picnic table, go for another dip, and so on. The ground is pretty soft with small green leafy plants and yellow flowers (buttercups, maybe?) and the fire pit is big and has plenty of seating. We cooked a whole dinner around the campfire and it was very comfortable. And falling asleep to the sound of the creek that runs along the site was wonderful.
The portable toilet, just up the hill from the campsite, was unbelievably pristine--according to the schedule posted inside, it's serviced every Friday, and it seemed completely unused before we got there.
If it's very rainy like it was this weekend, you'll want to bring some dry firewood to supplement the wood at the site, since the wood pile is open to the elements. Once we got a fire going with store-bought wood, the logs that were already in the fire pit got dry enough to burn (and looked like good, dense wood that would burn hot for quite a while). We brought 2 cords for one night and had a bit left over afterwards.

This was truly a hidden gem. Beautiful place at the Sutherland lake (with eagles, kayaks and some jetski’s), with a nice place for a campfire. Neighbours are nearby, but it was only a comfortable feeling. Be aware to take your own water, there is no tap.

Wonderful campsite, quaint and right at the lake near a small stream. Firewood already on-site was highly convenient. Out-houses very well maintained. Johnna was very helpful and friendly.
Less cell service than normal towns but Verizon and Google still fine to make calls and surf.

This is truly a hidden GEM! My friends and I got in late at night and didn’t know what to expect but we woke up to a beautiful little spot on the lake surrounded by cozy cabins. Johnna was so welcoming and made our stay so nice!

This truly was a hidden gem! The site was situated directly on Lake Sutherland with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and was only a short drive from the Hurricane Ridge Vistors Center in Olympic National Park. Plenty of dry firewood was provided to go along with the well-built fire pit. There is a great dock to fish from and a crystal clear stream running through the site that gently bubbles as you fall asleep.
We even had the pleasure of meeting our host who showed us the cabin on the property that they are restoring. Johana and her husband are truly passionate about the property and great stewards of the land and it clearly shows. They even gave us a great recommendation for Taco Pizza (don't knock it until you try it) in Forks!
Our only regret is that we did not stay another night but we will definitely return in the future!

I didn't realized how much to hike up and down was. My family enjoyed their stay. Just wish wasn't so hard to go up and down to get to the site. Enjoyed ever minute. Thank you

Wow! Johnnas place on Lake Sutherland is beautiful. Best features are the wonderful fire ring with two chairs, view of the lake and surrounding mountains, gentle lake waves lapping on the shore, and a soft green lawn to pitch a tent. Plus, the portapotty was very clean (seems it is cleaned often/used rarely). It is a bit of a walk down/up and steep, so make sure to take a second to gather everything you need. Neighboring properties are close by, so don’t expect an area entirely to yourself. Still, peaceful, clean, and beautiful.

The location was lovely although it was a bit tight located between a house and the host's cabin. The main issue was the host was doing home improvements with power tools on the cabin which was very close to our "site" until 10:30 pm. Our site was basically her yard. The second day of our stay, she invited a large group of relatives over (7 teenagers). They hung a hammock right in front of our access to the lake and parked in our designated parking spot. Clearly, the site should not have been rented when the host was having a large party.

This camping spot was gorgeous - right on the water, a fire pit, and a break in the trees all made for a lovely experience. I would highly recommend for those who are exploring the Olympic Peninsula or are in pursuit of some beautiful waterside camping.
